We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know if I can amend the flights online for a companion voucher booking?

    • roberto says:

Only if one is cancelled from my trails over the last couple of days. Yesterday I could not but as soon as one was cancelled today I could straight away.

  • FatherOfFour says:

Anybody had trouble relinking their Amex to Nectar Connect? Mine expired- tried relinking from mobile, pass through Amex login, then sits on blank screen for ages. Also tried adding as a “new” account – same issue

    • Stuart says:

This may or may not be related, but AmEx have problems with APIs at the moment – their Open Banking connections aren’t working and haven’t been for number of weeks, so you currently can’t connect AmEx cards to money manager apps like Snoop. I’d hazard a guess it’s the same root problem.

    • Andrew says:

You have to wait for it to expire, then delete the card, then add a new card.

Mine has just expired and the process worked first time when I tried it just now.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Never had any targeted offers so guess it is not working. Purchases don’t track either for generic offers

      • FatherOfFour says:

Thanks all for the replies. I’ll try deleting and retrying. Will also try from a PC and report back.

  • Cats are best says:

Just had an email offering “up to 70%” bonus on buying Virgin Flying Club points. Max purchase 200k points.

Presumably to get sone cash in.

  • Andrew says:

Just activated a new Amex Plat. No Amex Offers immediately visible nor after logout. I assume/hope they get loaded on at some point after (inc dining offer). Any idea how long that takes, if the case?

    • Andrew says:

Usually after a couple of weeks of beginning to spend on the card. But you can call them to manually add the dinning offer as time is ticking on that one (especially if restaurants are forced to close)

  • Steve says:

Seems like France will shortly require tests before travel, too.

  • Peggerz says:

Following news on HfP last week that Hilton Maidstone is to close after sale, I’ve had an email cancelling my stay next year. The new owners are the Orida group, which appear run a Holiday Inn and 3 golf courses in the area and the premises open 4/1/22.

  • R L says:

Just had BA cancel my redemption flights in First in March. Looks like they’re now going down to 3 flights a week, at least that’s all that is showing for me.
I was aiming to get to BKK (originally booked before covid) no availability in anything other than economy using a companion voucher. I’m instead looking at using avios for one person on Finnair and making a separate cash booking however, the BA site keeps saying it is not possible to book at present when trying to redeem avios on partner airlines, has anyone else had similar issues? Will I get similar if I call them?

    • roberto says:

Surely they will just (a) move you by a day or (b) put you onto another OW carrier – you may need to call to do this and may find yourself in business as other carriers may not have First. You should not need award availability.

I did this today and was easy peasy albeit to Singapore.

    • Mikeact says:

How far ahead now are people getting cancellations ?

    • Sam G says:

You could look up the availability on aa.com and then call to book

Assume you were originally booked to Singapore? You can either get a FOC switch to another day or onto QR (biz) per the BA policy. However they won’t change you to BKK as it’s too far away & note that Qatar isn’t currently VTL (deferred due to due variant)

Good news is that it would now be possible to go back into Singapore on a VTL flight out of Bangkok to get back onto BA home (subject to you staying in the VTL zone during the last 14 days of your trip, PCR testing etc) – mainlymiles.com is a good blog for the info

      • R L says:

        Thanks everyone

      • John says:

If BA policy is to downgrade to business on QR, are you still entitled to the 75% downgrade EU261 compensation?

        • John says:

My F flights are cancelled by BA, BA are now using 787 without F on my route and are not flying both outbound and inbound on the days I am booked.
I do really want to still fly on the days I booked as have hotels booked etc.
I’m assuming I can get moved to another OW carrier (QR) rather than having to move my days +-1?
