We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Well 11 days after requesting an Avios to Nectar transfer this has yet to appear in my Necatr account (even though Avios debited immediately!).

Has anyone had any issues re transfers? Also, who would be best to speak to re this – BA or Nectar?

    Many thanks.

  • The Rooster says:

I thought Amex to Emirates transfer was instant or it used to be? I sent 60K points 1 hour ago but not had them hit my Emirates account yet

    • Rob says:

Yes, should be. Log out, log in?

      • The Rooster says:

Already tried Rob. I’ve upgraded to F but the points haven’t shown and Emirates couldn’t see the points on the phone.
Amex are adamant the points have been sent but it can take up to 2 days

        • Cranzle says:

Had you linked the Amex & Emirates accounts in advance of the transfer?
If you’ve only just linked them and then immediately made a transfer then there is a delay

          • Therooster says:

Thanks Cranzle, I have I sent points around 1 year ago from Amex – Emirates

          • Therooster says:

Amex are adamant the points can take up to 2 days, they have said the points have been issued but can take 2 working days

    • Benilyn says:

Is this the same MR account you are sending from?
If an existing link is in place, it won’t transfer.

      • Therooster says:

it is the same Amex account to the same Emirates account! I have transferred 3 times on this MIR account in the past and all were instantaneous

    • Tarmohamed says:

Log out and log back in on the emirates website and instead of checking the upgrade page, check your my account page. Even first time transfers are near instant- tried last month on 3 occasions.

      • Therooster says:

I have logged out and in again. I have even spoken to Emirates on the phone and they can’t see the points.

Amex have said the transfer has been initiated but will take up to 2 working days to complete. I have Amex a number of times but they keep quoting 2 working days!

  • Omicron says:

Student telegraph subscription not working amex via unidays….have telegraph caught on and don’t want to cough up the £20 on £25 spend?

    • Lawro says:

I recall having a similar issue. Try calling them and having them process the Amex payment over the phone. From memory, that’s what I ended up doing. Presumably you can always cancel if the merchant comes up as something other than Telegraph Group etc and doesn’t trigger the offer.

    • Tracy Regan says:

Someone on here recommended reading the Telegraph via Pressreader and that’s what I do now.

  • SteveJ says:

So the news yesterday was that validity for jabs would move to 3 months rather than 6.

Anyone hear anything on when that change will become active on the booking portal? Still says they’ll “update this page once the service is updated”.

    • meta says:

Where did you read that? 3 months? That means the majority of UK population won’t be able to go anywhere.

    • Sean says:

ALL comments from Gov and NHS is “wait and we will contact you”.

      • meta says:

Ah, not validity, but rather the possibility of getting the jab earlier.

    • Andrew says:

I think you’re confusing things – what’s changed is the booster gap is going from 6 to 3 months since the second dose. And that will be available to book, in age priority order in due course and by end of Jan at the latest.

    • Tracey says:

Some update happened overnight, more are in the pipeline.

There will still be age restrictions to ensure the older people get their boosters first. Try a walk in clinic, they should be moving to 3 months soon, if not already. The elderly tend not to go to walk ins but wait until their surgery phones them to book them in, so should be easier. Or pharmacies who are keen on the pay per jab they get. From January they are getting an extra fiver for a Sunday jab, so expect lots of pharmacies to offer Sunday clinics.

      • Jody says:

I tried yesterday, but no luck. Would only give you a booster if you’d had your 2nd vaccine up until 1st June. Mine was 14th June.

I do have an appointment for the 16th, but thought I’d try my luck at getting in slightly earlier.

    • John Caribbean says:

Officially they’re supposed to introduce new protocols by 13th December ( in today’s Times), unofficially sometime next week

    • SteveJ says:

Thank all, yes this was in reference to the 2nd jab to booster gap being shortened. Seems like it’s wait and see.

  • Rachel Robinson says:

Good morning from the Concorde Room at T5!

    • Anna says:

Enjoy, and have a glass of LPGS for me! Fingers crossed I’ll be there in March.

      • Rachel R says:

Thank you! We’re embarking on a mid-life gap year, so who knows how it will go, what with COVID restrictions, etc. But it’s started well with the LPGS!

        • Anna says:

Fab, Rachel, keep us posted about your travels!

        • Polly says:

          Rachel,

This sounds really interesting. Do we dare ask where you hope to be at the end of this flight? And who is insuring you!

          • Rachel Robinson says:

We are starting in Mexico, then heading south to Brazil, and fly home from Jamaica. Slightly different to our original south east Asia itinerary but needed to adapt to Covid and various other things. Very excited though. Insurance via Direct Line. Although of course no claims yet so no idea whether to recommend.

        • Michael C says:

And here’s to youuuu, Rachel Robinsonnn!

    • Andrew says:

Enjoy while it lasts – BA have already closed arrivals lounge.

      • Rob says:

Er, that’s because you need to immediately isolate and not visit an arrivals lounge.

        • Gareth says:

Is this the same for Virgins arrivals lounge do you know Rob? I assume it is but not seen it confirmed anywhere?

  • Anna says:

Has IHG extended the Ambassador free 2nd night Kimpton/Regent? I thought it ended on 31/12 but it’s showing available to book well into 2022 now.

    • meta says:

I noticed it too. I think they have quietly extended.

      • Anna says:

Not going to renew atm but of course you can still book. I feel our accounts are like Schroedinger’s cats just now, both dead and alive until someone opens the box 😂

  • William R B says:

    KLM FTV

Has anyone current experience of the time to receive this voucher? KLM state it should be within seven working days, with the usual covid proviso – busy times etc.

    • AFKAE says:

Yes, got mine in about 5 days. I’ve used it since then, it all worked fine. Separate ones if you’d paid for seat reservations.

      • David D says:

Depends really, had two sets this week. One in three days and one instantly. The three day one was a roll-up of previous vouchers and cash so needed some back office work to amalgamate into one voucher, the instant one was a cash booking.

  • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

    Intercontinental Ambassador questions:
    1) Renewals used to get a 10% rebate on reward bookings. Has that benefit gone?
    2) I can renew with 40k points. If you let membership lapse can you pay points or only cash?
    3) Is the free night sign up promo still around?

    A thousand thank yous.
(It’s probably a rule of points&miles that when the question is “Has that benefit gone?” the answer is always “Yes”)

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

      1) This benefit no longer applies
      2) Yes, even brand new members get the 40k pay points option
      3) No sign of it as far as I can see… The T&Cs mention it was only available for new or renewing members 15 April 2021 – 31 July 2021

    • Kai says:

Renew AMB and get 20K bonus points after 2 paid nights.
It’s live starting today – the terms aren’t updated yet but should be very soon.

    • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

Thanks for the replies. Where have you seen the renewal offer?
