We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Lee says:

Pre-departure tests and extra tests on days five or eight is on the way, can travel industry survive this time?

    • Navara says:

I would think so. One a plus note apparently my motor home is in great demand by buyers according to the dealer text message I just received and I will be pleasantly surprised what they can offer me.

    • GaryE says:

Is this a rumour or is there any substance to back this up for UK travellers?

    • Gavin says:

      According to who?

      • Lee says:

According to government’s Sage advisory committee.

When the noises were all over the places it will be impalement very soon

  • James says:

Anyone found a good use for the Chase card?

    • Lee says:

      Define good use ;-wink

    • HBommie says:

Level up a dodgy table leg?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

Foreign spend with 1% back is a good use.

    • The Urbanite says:

Not when there are more generous and less restrictive crypto debit cards out there, not really.

      • will says:

Not familiar with crypto debit cards but do hold some crypto, what’s the best option for GBP or forex spend?

        • The Urbanite says:

There are a few on the market that offer cashback on spend, with some restrictions. Not looked at using them to spend actual crypto though!

      • Paul says:

whilst on the topic, do you know of any that give c@shb@ck for paying HMRC? Crypto[dot]com used to but they shut that loophole ~year ago.

    • Jamie D says:

I am quite liking it as a product / app / card overall. Applied for the card on the basis of actually looking to use it as a secondary account with no / low FX fees; with the other small benefits such as the cashback being slightly secondary. Seems the Chase approach is to offer lots of small incentives, with a view to slowly building up (and maybe even retaining) a customer base, and slowly adding additional functionality, rather than offering any single killer incentive. Chase appear to have fairly big ambitions here, and certinly have the resources to play the long game. The cashback appears to be well locked down in terms of the Merchant Category Codes it pays out on (similar to how Santander 1-2-3 used to be) – so not seeing any obvious MS oppurtunities. Happy to be proven wrong however!

    • Fazzy Bear says:

      3% cashback with Amazon currently

    • T says:

It’s great for travelling – I’ve spent a lot of time in CZ and PL recently, 0% FX and 1% cashback is pretty great.

    • Mark says:

It’s a no brainer really. It’s a simple offer, with any excluded categories made clear.

1% return as cash is arguably better value than any other card. Whilst many will argue Avios are better, by the time you’ve paid the card fee, and the BA imposed charges, and seat selection fees, maybe not so much. Crypto cards can offer higher CB rates, but often require a significant investment amount to get the propmoted rate, and unless you can cash out the crypto coins immediately, and without fees, your 3% might well turn into 0.1% in a couple of months (or weeks).

      • Nigel W says:

Similar agree with Mark, it has become my near default day-to-day spend card.

      • Lady London says:

How long are Chase taking to process applications? Are there any switching benefits?

  • Shaw West says:

DP. Flying Blue . 50% Extra XP

  • Therooster says:

So an update on the Amex – Emirates transfer. Emirates have confirmed they are now taking up to 2 working days to arrive but they will hold the booking for 2 working days for the miles to credit.

  • Tw33ty says:

How rude, Paul Henry still hasn’t replied back to me.

  • PeteD says:

Planning to convert my Amex MR to avios at somepoint before next Spring for a 2-4-1 reward flight redemption (to fly in 2023). Is there ever any kind of enhanced transfer bonus or always 1 to 1?

    • Peter K says:

Never usually a bonus, but with all the continuing travel restrictions, who knows.

If there is no need to transfer now then you might as well wait and see.

    • Andrew says:

Or we might see a bonus for converting to a statement credit which might provide better value for money.

  • rams says:

Curve metal – any idea how the 10k limit is being tracked?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

Knowing Curve it’ll be using an abacus or similar.

But the rule is 10k per calendar month.

    • Char Char says:

If they have any sense (Questionable) then it will be automatic based on the relevant transactions

    • Mick S says:

with hard graft by the looks of it – i asked Curve this question yesterday and heard nothing back so far.

I’ve switched fronted off, and will just enable it for paying off my CC when needed. These transactrions I will manually track.

  • Tracy says:

Datapoint on Amazon £20 for adding a non Visa card to account. Deleted all but Visa on Saturday, made purchase, offer appeared today. I used the promotional credit and deleted all cards but Visa again, you never know it might appear again lol
    Non prime account got a £10 offer…
