We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

@Sandgrounder – please be more explicit in your posts.
      Where is here?
      How breezy is quite breezy?
And most important of all, what happened to your recycling bin?

      • Sandgrounder says:

        Update:
Bins have now been safely collected. No further spillage. I collected some debris in the morning.
        AndyT:
        Google my username.
        Gusts up to 50mph
Mine was fine, I moved it and both next door neighbours to shelter at 2am ish and put them back at the edge of the pavement after dropping Mrs S at the station at 6.20, when the wind had dropped. It’s now empty and safely in the back garden.
        Mike:
It was about 2am, loud crash and I went outside to right it again. I tried to get back to sleep but to no avail. Probably dropped off about 4.30

  • Rupert one says:

Anyone having issues with the BA website? I’m very jet-lagged!

    • Matthew says:

I am. Every time I login from the homepage, it logs me out and seems to just reload the login page when I try to access my profile

  • Sandgrounder says:

Spend 30 get 10 back at BP has appeared on one of my Amex cards.

    • Youllnever says:

Spend 50 get 10 back at Covent Garden, and spend 80 get 20 back at Fenwick as well.

    • Vit says:

Anyone know we can gift card from BP store? I normally use this offer for my fuel as commuting twice a week but will be away for 2 months and want to make good use of this offer as I’ll be missing out on the shop small. 😅

    • Justin says:

Same! Unfortunately, the offer currently doesn’t appear on the others as well.

    • Greg says:

Thanks. My gold card too. Cheers

    • Chrism20 says:

Just on the subject of BP I bought £70 of petrol this morning and 500 bonus points have added to my card as well as the points from the petrol. Nothing on the app and no email so absolutely no idea what the bonus points are for.

US officials will require everyone entering the country to be tested one day before boarding flights, regardless of their vaccination status or country of departure. Administration officials are also considering a requirement that all travellers get retested within three to five days of arrival. Currently those who are fully vaccinated may present a test taken within three days of boarding.

    From The Guardian live blog.

I wonder if they’ll make it PCR only.

  • SM says:

Partner & I used Randox click + collect day 2 test yesterday – landed 10:30, picked up from and dropped sample at Raddison Blu LHR at 12:00 and had results back 21:00 same day. Very good for £35 each!

    • Polly says:

      Hi SM
That’s a good result, timing wise…about the best we can hope for, currently. Until a 3 hr one kicks in.

  • The Urbanite says:

Sad to see Admiral Rewards go!

    • Cranzle says:

Agreed. It was good of them to it out in a painless manner rather than just fold and take the money.

  • ChrisC says:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/11/30/omicron-stricter-travel-rules-us-entry/

US considering several measures including –

Requiring everyone entering the country to be tested one day before boarding flights, regardless of their vaccination status or country of departure.

A requirement that all travellers get retested within three to five days of arrival.

Debating a proposal to require all travelers to self-quarantine for seven days, even if their test results are negative.

    • Track says:

      Very funny (not).

First, co-ordinate campaign with Oxford and Anthony Fauci saying vaccines are effective against Omicron.

Second, impose stricter testing and quarantine requirements, even for triple-vaccinated.

It is called “watch my hands.”

      • Ian M says:

Not an easy job working in this area of government. You have to convince the unvaccinated that vaccines work, and urge them to take them, and at the same time you have to convince the vaccinated that the jabs they already took don’t work and therefore they need new booster shots..

        • Polly says:

          Brilliant Ian

        • Tracey says:

Try working in a vaccine centre when some clever clogs ask why we are all wearing masks if we’ve had our boosters and are confident they worked!

          • TGLoyalty says:

The answer is simple … it stops severe disease it only reduces the chance of getting it and if you do get it you will pass it on like anyone else.

          • Track says:

@TGLoyalty The premise for Omicron-related restrictive measures is that current vaccines stop being effective preventing severe illness and healthcare system/hospitals will crumble.

          • Polly says:

These people seriously don’t get it. It’s instinctive in our house, don’t even leave the car without a mask. Was so surprised Boris declared no need for masks in schools. Glad they are mandatory again, tho.

    • JP-MCO says:

CNN reporting that White House officials have ruled out mandatory quarantine for US citizens returning to the USA. Who knows whether that would be extended to non-citizens but one would hope it will. It would effectively be another travel ban even if not by name!

      • Roy robson says:

Interesting, that they think the virus checks the issuing county of a persons passport before determining whether to infect or not.

        • John says:

Ok, but quarantining some people may be better than quarantining nobody.

Just like some people wearing masks is better than nobody wearing masks, and allowing viral spread for 12 hours a day may be better than 24 hours a day (though there is an obvious flaw in that argument if the same number of people go out making things twice as crowded).

          • Alan says:

If Omicron really is much more infectious than Delta anything other than a complete travel ban is a waste of time.

Most likely s it is already be in the US so testing, quarantine, travel bans etc won’t achieve anything.

      • James says:

Would also be nonsensical because you could get a nice group of Americans who show up as infectious with the new variant after they’ve arrived!

  • Can says:

Nice new snowy visual/picture thingy for the chat pages for the cold winter days. Gosh, I miss real snowy winter
