We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Shop small question: Am I on dodgy ground if I split a restaurant bill between my Platinum Amex and BA Classic ? Both cards held in my name. What about splitting the bill between myself using Platinum and my supp

    • Shaw West says:

It didn’t work for me. But it did when I split with My card and my wife card

    • TGLoyalty says:

No I’ve done a bill between 4 cards. Doesn’t matter if it’s yours someone else’s a supp etc

Perfectly reasonable for 3/4/5/6 people in a family to go to a restaurant or bar etc.

    • mark2 says:

It would be dodgy before Saturday!

      • JohnT says:

We always try and do different amounts if splitting and never exactly 15.00! Who knows…

    • Paul says:

used to split oyster top ups between 30 cards 😉 those were the days

  • Henry says:

Is anyone having issues booking the Gleneagles By Invitation offer this morning? Phone is permanently busy and booking has fallen over in between payment and confirmation.

Interesting, shame all the prices are bonkers right now. Might change once we have more restrictions

You beat me to it! I still seemed to have the last code active on my account even though I received a £5 bonus yesterday. Are they ever multi use? Do they stack?

As an antidote to all the Omicron Doom and Curve Gloom, a mini TR from a weekend in London.

Flew down on BA Cityflyer earlier in week for work, not much to say about that really.

Friday – stayed at Great Scotland Yard (booked via Emyr/ Bon Vivant) on Friday, very impressed with hotel – well put together and service was excellent throughout. We were upgraded to a city view room but I think all the rooms are very similar so I’d have been happy with any level of room. Excellent use of the F&B credit at their bar and the new Ekstedt restaurant is superb, far from cheap but I will remember the meal long after I remember paying for it. Everything cooked over flame or ember, no electricity or gas in the kitchen so rather different. Breakfast was included thanks to Hyatt Privee rate and this was very good too despite being quite busy. We redeemed our Hyatt Amex offer so another £100 saved there and we are most of the way to a suite upgrade on Hyatt points, shame there’s no easy way to top up.

Saturday stayed at Hart Shoreditch on Hilton points – nice boutiquey feel, modern inside and a small upgrade to a city view room which was entirely pleasant. Cocktails at Christina’s in the Mondrian then dinner at Lyle’s using our £200 Plat dining credit – excellent as always.

Sunday was cold and crisp so went for a walk then lunched at Eataly at Liverpool Street.

Unfortunately there was a total shambles with British Airways at City to check bags, we’d bought oils and sauces to take home so couldn’t go HBO. Not sure what the problem was but ended up queuing for 45 mins in priority lane, then just missing the 20 minute cut-off and having to get supervisor to reopen bag drop for us and about half a dozen other passengers in the same boat. They had pulled passengers on a later flight forward and assured us we were fine – I’ve never seen a shambles like it at City. Made flight with a few mins to spare and fortunately bags made it too.

So good weekend and made possible via a mix of redemptions, and Amex Offers and returned a decent haul of points too. Shame about return flight but all is well that ends well, I suppose.

    • Anna says:

Sounds very pleasant, apart from the airport shambles – where do you get the Cityflyer service from? I had one booked from MAN but it was cancelled and I don’t think they’ve reinstated the route.

      • Ben says:

Hi, I also stayed at the Great Scotland Yard Hotel on Sunday night. Nice hotel in a good location. There was also some filming for a new ITV spy drama on the so made for some interesting characters.

        • Stu N says:

They were setting something up on Sat afternoon, I wondered what was going on…

      • Stu N says:

        Edinburgh.

There was a cluster of 5 flights within about half an hour, don’t know if something was broken or they were just overwhelmed by numbers of people checking bags.

  • gary says:

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have avoid boxing’s to the US next year in Club and a first class seat has become available on avoid. Is it possible to move one of my 3 seats to it online or do I have to phone BA. If it can be done online please advise how as I can’t see it? many thanks. Gary

    • Stu N says:

You’ll have to phone. Not sure if you can upgrade a single seat, normally you would need to have all passengers in same cabin. BA may be able to split the booking into 2 and 1 then upgrade one passenger but that’s messy.

      • Sam G says:

This is what you’d need to do by phone but it’s very simple for the call centre – ask them to “split the PNR” and then “change” (not “upgrade”) the one passenger to First

Only time this won’t work if it’s a passenger on a 2-4-1 voucher booking since that can’t be split up. Also note if the upgrading passenger was Gold and the others bronze/blue/nothing then they’d potentially lose the Club seats that were selected for free.

There is also a tiny risk of getting split up during disruption since you’re now on separate bookings but I wouldn’t worry about that personally, could likely be fixed

        • Gary says:

Thanks both. Will try to phone again later if the seat is still showing. Held on for 30 minutes earlier without speaking to anyone hence i was looking at online options. Cheers

          • Spurs drive me mad says:

If it’s a seat in first class try phoning the You First number to book it.

  • Phil W says:

Amex Travel Statement Credit (£400/£100) – On the 25th November I made a hotel booking via Amex Travel for £130, which would take my Amex Travel spend to £410 during the offer period. The booking was non-refundable and was showing in my Pending Transactions but has now disappeared.

Has anyone else experienced this? Will the transaction re-appear?

  • MinR says:

Has anyone been able to book the Europcar one-way £1 offer since the HfP article published on the 14th?

I get an error when trying to confirm, and Europcar claim the deal isn’t available.
