We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Heathrow Terminal 5 – is there an onsite PCR test provider for arrivals? I’m being a real dumbo but when I search I find lots of at home tests. If there isn’t, does anyone know of a West London based outfit that does rapid answer tests (I arrived back to UK on Saturday, but need to travel to other parts of UK starting Sunday for work). Thanks.

I used Perks at Work for the first time recently (10% back via card linked perks at Morrisons) . I just logged into to check it even worked and it looks like it has tracked at 30%, with the points now available to use. Assume it will be rectified soon enough?

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Take the money and run 🙂 Hope you stacked with Virgin card and $hop$ @w@y.

      • MattB says:

        Indeed 🙂

      • Jonathan says:

Have you managed to get P@W & Virgin CC to stack? I never have. Same with Far flung shopping portal. Perks & the virgin portal use same underlying system (sports loyalty cards ltd) which would explain that but I wonder if VACC also track via them. Amex always stacks fine.

    • Reney says:

anyone’s Tesco PAW points still pending?

    • Anuj says:

How long does it take for PAW to go from pending to available?

      • Reney says:

usually about 2 weeks or quicker. They put an estimate date for you. But my Tesco one has past the estimated date by 4 days and still pending. Maybe I went too hard on the deal.

Following yesterday’s detective work in the comments re. NS&I, I’d like to make it clear I am not Mr X

I got pretty hooked up with this BA Avios Booster offer. Here is the question: I’ll be moving soon, so I need moving supplies for packing. I spent a good deal of time this morning to find a store at the BA shopping portal for it. Anyone has any advise: where can I get boxes, bubblewrap, packing tapes etc from there?

    • RTS says:

      ebay

      • Can says:

eBay is not on the BA shopping portal, so does not work for the Avios Booster offer.

    • Spurs drive me mad says:

Put office supplies in avois search engine lots of companies come up that should sell what you need.

      • Spurs drive me mad says:

I’ve looked for you try Ryman’s they sell all those things.

      • Can says:

Bingo. Thanks, for some reason, I was focusing on “moving” keywords.. officestationery co uk seems good..

        • Chris says:

Just FYI but recently I was considerably cheeper availing my moving company of their full packing service (including materials) than buying the materials myself

Wouldn’t have even thought to check until someone suggested it to me

        • Spurs drive me mad says:

I’ve recently moved so knew what to look for.

    • Swifty says:

Try groupon. You may end up buying a personal massager chair, some bay trees in pots, bath bombs as well as dodgy lip filler from a tiny office in Harley street, but that’s the game eh. Oh no, that’s wowcher, my bad!

  • Sambe says:

Will a flight taken with ITA before December 31st 2021 count as a Skyteam partner airline flight for the purpose of extending Flying Blue miles validity? Or is the Volare program not linked to Skyteam partners until next year? I’m quite keen to extend rather than get a bad deal on Avios conversion so it’d be nice to pick up the 10k welcome bonus at the same time.

  • Oliver says:

I have 2 FTVs (both containing Avios+money, one of which also includes a 241).

I would like to make a new (Avios 241) booking using both vouchers. This booking will use up the Avios component of both vouchers, but leave a small amount of cash on one of them – which I’d then like to apply to an outstanding BA Holiday balance.

Has anyone managed to do similar, or am I being too optimistic about BA’s capabilities?

    (Same passengers across all bookings)

  • Kyle says:

Are targeted enhanced Amex platinum referrals still around? Became eligible for the bonus again just recently so wanted to apply now to use the dining offer before year end.

    • Ali says:

my referral link gives 70000 mr points to the person being referred, and 24000 for the referrer – not sure if this is standard or enhanced as you describe

  • LST says:

Hi all. Looks as though our Xmas trip to California is off, wife doesn’t not want to risk being quarantined or red listed.
If I cancel for a BA FTV, can I liquidate it later into cash (minus the £35pp charges) and Avios or is it forever in a FTV?
Can’t seem to find the answer on the BA site.
    Thanks in advance.

    • Sam G says:

Yes you can. you could also amend the flights first to a trip to Manchester which will release most of the cash & Avios and then FTV

    • Richie says:

I’d wait a little longer for the scientists to clarify more regarding omicron.

    • ChrisC says:

You could wait until closer to departure to see if BA cancel the flight in which case you could get a full refund (so no admin fee) or have the option to rebook for free for a later date.

    • Paul says:

highly unlikely they’re going to red list the US. That would be the very last place imo. This is all way overblown, it’s likely to be absolutely fine.
