We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Surprised there’s not been a Melia Reward points offer this year for Black Friday/Cyber Monday…at least I can’t find one.

  • RichK says:

Received a new IHG credit card today despite them telling me they’re closing my account!

  • Yorkie Aid says:

Booster COVID-19 vaccines are to be offered to all adults aged 18 and over in a major expansion of the programme.
The announcement came as 11 cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 were detected in the UK.
Six of the cases were identified in Scotland, and five in England.
The Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisation (JCVI) announced that the booster programme would be extended to 18 to 39 year olds who had received their second dose at least 3 months previously.
In a further development, children aged 12 to 15 should be offered a second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech 3 months after their first dose.
Severely immunosuppressed people are to be eligible for another booster, meaning that some people in this cohort could be given a fourth vaccine dose.

Just have to wait for the nhs site to catch up, tried it after the announcement and went from #1835 in the queue to logging in within 5 mins, only to find it still says I have to wait until 152 days after second jab to be able to book…

    • Anna says:

It’s annoying that teenagers have to wait 12 weeks for the 2nd dose as the optimal gap for optimising the immune response is supposed to be 8 weeks.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Was it? 12 was better than 3 but nothing was done on 8

8 was just in response to delta and getting jabs in arms

As in booster after 3 months!! You’ll be having 5/6 jabs a year at this rate when they decide omicron needs a 4th boost in 120 days or so.

I’m stepping out of this experiment

    • stevenhp1987 says:

I was eligible for the 3rd primary dose… On my NHS Covid pass it is s listed as a booster.

Will be nice to get Pfizer booster then I’ll be double AZ and double Pfizer vaccinated! Do I need to get them to re-categorise the booster as a 3rd jab or will it just work?

First 2 jabs were AZ while 3rd was Pfizer.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Whats the difference between a primary dose and booster via Pfizer?

I know moderna was a half dose as a boost.

    • Elguiri says:

Sounds like a loyalty points scheme coming soon – collect 4 jabs in a year and earn silver status, collect 6 and it’s gold, show your loyalty card (NHS app) next time you fly and get upgraded.

  • LS says:

@Rob: Just an idea – when/if you run an article on the Curve/NS&I FOI release, can you ask Curve and NS&I in a right to reply to comment on exactly what information was shared between the two?

It has made me slightly uneasy the fact they have been sharing data – I realise I could FOI it again, but this would take at least a month, and may be subject to exemptions in the FOI law. It is always better to ask directly, and companies tend to reply to media types rather than a private individual, when articles are going to go before a big audience!

    • JonD says:

From your emails, it would also be very interesting to know what data Curve was sharing with Creation and what their meeting was about. I doubt there is anyway to force that data out however.

Also would an FOI for March get the original complaint?

    • Rob says:

We’re not doing anything detailed on this. Certain readers literally begged us not to run articles on this when it was running, so we didn’t, but we cannot now turn around to our other 49,000 daily readers who don’t read the comments and say ‘we kept this secret from you but …..’.

      • Char Char says:

Wow, wonder what their reasons for being against the articles was?

        • BP says:

          Keep the “secret” for longer

          • Blenz101 says:

It’s been a relatively open secret here in the comments. Mentioned serval times a week.

A full article would find its way around all the blogs and deal sites online (with no credit to HfP) and be quickly shut down by the card issuers when tens of thousands pile in. See 3V from a few years ago.

Background noise is fine. An individual taking the P is not. T&C abuse becoming mainstream, same issue.

          • Char Char says:

ah right yes makes sense, I thought it was in reference to Creations antics

          • Harrier25 says:

Total madness. Hang out the 49,000 to dry. They’ve clearly been up to no good!

        • TGLoyalty says:

Well obviously because the article lands in the laps of many people some of which are in the industry.

    • JDB says:

The FOI documents you circulated today are about to create a whole lot more data sharing with a wider circle of card providers. Despite the praise from the usual players, it actually looks like a spectacular own goal!

      • Andrew says:

It’s also a useful reminder to the Finance sector that, when you engage with NS&I, copies of your emails and other potentially “Commercially Sensitive” correspondence can be requested by the public and published.

The technically competent card issuers haven’t been affected by the behaviour of some Curve customers, just the sub-prime players like your employer in Solihull.

      • Aston100 says:

I’m about 90% convinced JDB was involved in all this as either the initial whistle blower, or some other capacity.

  • Anon says:

“Biden said he doesn’t anticipate any more travel restrictions. Dr Anthony Fauci, Biden’s chief medical adviser, took to the podium to explain the stringent requirements already in place for those traveling internationally to the US – travellers must both be vaccinated and be tested before entering.”

From Guardian coverage of his press conference.

  • Doommonger says:

I have taken a look at my spending spreadsheet, I have spent £1053 in Sainsburys since the Avios/Nectar thing got launched I have traded in nectar points for 40000 Avios so far and have another two thousand nectar, has it been worth it?

Also the miles and more extend your points for a fee is outrageous, I will do an Alex Higgins into their foliage display the next time I’m in one of their lounges.

    Doomey

    • TGLoyalty says:

If you had the M&M card they’ve just extended expiry to July 2022

    • Shaw West says:

Have you seen ow much Emirates charge for extending/reinstating expiring miles!

As to the miles it is like the you earned 40 per £1

    • AJA says:

You’ve converted 60k Nectar points to get 40k Avios if my maths is correct. Are you saying those 60k Nectar points cost you £1,053? Is that including sign up bonuses on credit cards? I’ve collected just over 20k Nectar points since the BA tie up but only exchanged 4k for 2.5k Avios. But I’ve spent £1,665 to get those 20k NP.

    • Lady London says:

Their foliage is plastic so it might bounce back.

  • Zoe P says:

    Hi all
I am trying to do some online shopping via portal but when I log in via PC there is nothing there. I search for shops I know that are on it and they don’t come up. Is this just me? I havent checked the comments for a few days so no idea if this is a known issue. How do I get Avios for the Kitchenaid my partner doesn’t know he is about to buy me now? (besides the ones through credit card…)
    Thanks
    Zoe

  • Zoe P says:

Oh, and also, I finally bit the bullet and cancelled Japan tickets on 241 BA voucher, so I now have FTV. Does there need to be reward flights available for the next dates that I pick?
