We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know what normally happens if there is a direct debit setup for council tax but then a payment is made on card that would cover a few months, will the direct debit generally still be taken each month or does the balance get adjusted and the dd wouldnt get taken for those months?

    • Anna says:

Just cancel the dd. Councils are a bit of a (by) law unto themselves and would probably still take your and you’d then have to claw back the extra. I normally make 2 or 3 lump payments each year and after each one the council sends me a revised bill and payment schedule until the full amount is paid.

    • E says:

Our council doesn’t take the direct debit if I’ve already paid on card that month. Sounds like it could vary depending on your council though so maybe best to ask them.

Boris to hold press conference at 5pm after 2 cases of Omicron variant discovered here. Frozen party food for the next 3 months???

    • Andrew says:

Best use up that Amex restaurant credit next week!

    • Harry T says:

There goes my holiday to the UAE, to join my January South Africa trip in the dustbin of dreams 😂

      • Anna says:

Harry, I’m now thinking we won’t even get to Edinburgh for New Year as Ms Sturgeon will now have another excuse to close her borders!

        • James says:

          That is pessimistic!

          • Anna says:

James, I live in a borough where residents were banned from entering Scotland even after most restrictions had been lifted, she’s got her eye on us 🤣

          • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Ah, but wee Nicky is soooo caring and has to always go twenty better than Boris. Who knows I may not even get to London in a couple of weeks!

    • Anna says:

The infected persons and their family have been “told” to isolate 🙄

      • Polly says:

Not carted off by the men in hazmat suits???

        • Anna says:

Lol Polly, they don’t work at the weekend! Call 119 and you can make an appointment to see a man in a hazmat suit in 3 weeks.

        • Lady London says:

No that’s only for the really dangerous, Polly 🙂

          • Polly says:

Love it! Yeh, the very dangerous, who are actually negative…x

Anna, love your comments too..makde me laugh out loud, the two of you.

But now, we have to book a say 2 PCR instead of an LFT on return. Serious situation out there tho.

    • Lee says:

Looks like I may have to wave goodbye to my Christmas Maldives trip 🙁

  • Rahaney says:

Has anyone signed up to Nectar Connect?
Wondering if the offers are any good vs giving access to my spending habits…
    Ta,

  • Mco says:

Do gift cards at Morrsions still trigger the 10% cash back?

  • Cats are best says:

Still can’t update my APIS info in my BAEC profile, presumably the damage from the ‘Planned improvements to Executive Club[…]’ continues.

Typing in the new info and attempting to update tells me…
“You are already logged in with a different account
You will need to log out and log in again to access a different scheme.”
…together with a button to log out.

Needless to say, clicking on the button to log out and then logging in again produces exactly the same outcome.

  • Mike79 says:

I am sure I could transfer Avios points into Nectar points earlier this week but not any longer online? Do we have to call up again?

  • Niall says:

I remember years ago getting a good and beverage voucher from BA when some airport lounge was closed. Wondering if this happens due to closures due to covid? Lounge seems closed in LPA (Gran Canaria) at the moment. If they still do this, does it apply for club Europe only or for status holder also?

  • Rui N. says:

At least write my name properly.
If IHG wants to close accounts just because they have a lot of points, they can do so. But, go figure, loyalty schemes like people who have lots of points. It might be somehow correlated with the fact that people who have lots of points might spend money with that company.
