We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

How concern is everyone who has Christmas trip booked due to that new variant.

Looking forward to my Christmas Maldives holiday but definitely put some doubts on it now.

    • Andy says:

Not concerned yet. Still no evidence if it’s more deadly than previous variants and also how far it has spread. I guess the next week or so will show where we are though

  • Gavin says:

Does anyone know if the Esso nectar Offers stack?

I’ve got 500 points for first use of app, 200 points for filling up 25 litres, and 10x base points on standard fuel (15x for supreme fuel).

Any good Black Friday deals on tests? Looks like we will all be having to stock up on a few now. Portugal has just announced requirement for test to enter country, regardless if you have an EU/UK Vaccination Certificate.

Got a friend who landed in South Africa CPT yesterday morning, with the news of last night she managed to get an EK flight from JNB to Dubai. Apparently the scenes there are chaos she managed to check in for her flight and is SEQ 706 (with potentially more people after her) for the A380 with a capacity of 517 pax.

    Hi HFP Crowd;

Need to go to Oslo for a meeting next week. Want to arrive Saturday and stay till Monday. Any hotel suggestions/deals near the Central train station? Could not find any offers/reviews searching on HFP. thanks

    • John says:

Use hotels.com or ebookers, nothing exciting, if you want a chain it’s pretty much radisson (Amex partner) or Nordic choice

    • Polly says:

Can’t go wrong around the train station. Lots of big old world scandi hotels. We usually just pick one that’s looks ok. Never had a bad experience yet. Usually when we were going to Asia on ex eu QR J sales. … gosh, those were the days…will check for you…

      • Michael C says:

Planning your next SEAsia trip, Polly?! ;o))

        • Polly says:

Ha ha Michael, planning whether to do a runner tomorrow night outta here! But things seem calm here in Singapore tonight. No alarm bells w the HKG case yet, thankfully. Now in Belgium. Best to hold our nerve and head out as planned to Sentosa island on Monday…

Always planning our next SE Asia trip, but in our dreams atm…

Sadly we have HKG > either HKT or DPS booked for mid January, that’s down the pan now too! Such a shame for all the nice people who depend on tourists. Have such great chats with people on the ground here, staff, cab drivers etc. Loving the street food though, amazing.

          • Anna says:

Hi Polly, hope you’ve properly relaxed now! Have you read the Kevin Kwan books? Laugh out loud funny and made me really want to visit Singapore.

    • Graham Walsh says:

I used to work for a Norwegian company and was there most months. I would either stay at a Nordic Choice/Radisson/Scandic in the centre. Also stayed at a Thon once too, which was fine.

All are fine hotels. As others said, use a 3rd party booking site unless your collecting Radisson points.

    • David D says:

Not exactly in the centre though on the T-banen to Central station is Radisson Blu Nydalen, a really nice little area just outside the centre which has an entrance into a small shopping centre as well, in case the weather is bad you don’t have to step back outside. About 15 minutes on the T-bane via Nationaltheatret on lines 4 and 5.

Couple of good bars and restaurants within 100m of the hotel as well such as Nydalen Bryggeri and Spiseri, plus Xeast. Also, it is usually a nice walk down the Akerselva towards the city centre.

Staying in the centre I have a preference for the Radisson Blu Scandinavia near the Palace which has a really nice top floor bar with views out over the harbour and up to Holmenkollen.

    • @mkcol says:

Stayed at Thon Hotel Opera right beside the station just 2 weekends ago. Also part of Discovery group if you have any status there.
      Was a super location.
