We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Resorts World Conrad in Las Vegas $119 plus $45 fee . Cyber sale rate . That was for a Thursday in February.

    • will says:

Direct with hilton? Can you share a link?

      • roberto says:

Now $95 pn direct plus $45 resort fee ,plus taxes , includes $50 resort credit as a Diamond.

I booked 7th to 10th December for $477 inclusive on a strip view premium room. The last offer on the page, the “Cyber Deal”..

      • KJT says:

It’s on the Hilton app . Not immediately apparent but scroll down to the bottom of the room rates . Premium room from $119

  • J says:

What cancellation options do I have for an avios booking?

Would obtaining an evoucher be possible? How does it work?

    Thanks!

    • Anna says:

I think you can only get a FTV for an avios booking, which requires you to call BA to redeem it. You do this by using the “Covid-19” link on the BA home page. Otherwise you can get your refund minus £35 pp fee by calling.

  • ATP says:

Hi all, had 12500 Avios transferred from my BAPP to BAEC during the IT outage, but it’s not showing yet on my BAEC despite happening 5 days ago according to Amex statement (portal Avios has shown during this time though). Do I contact Amex or BAEC silver or do they have a credit card line I call? TIA

    • BuildBackBetter says:

Likely BAEC still haven’t loaded all excel sheets with data yet. Give them a few days. Unless you are any to redeem immediately.

    • Jonathan says:

Had same issue, Avios left Amex on 20th and only showed on BA today.

  • TJ says:

Has anyone managed to claim missing Avios for a BA flight recently? I can enter a ticket number on the claim page, but the ‘Continue’ button is greyed out. I assume it’s an overhang from BA’s recent IT shenanigans.

    • Simon says:

I tried to do this for a last minute booking to NY where my exec club number was left off – will give it a few days to see if their IT gremlins sort themselves out. Also noticing Tier Points/Avios for flights that have been taken are not posting as quick…

  • Anna says:

Rob – any further info on the HH Barclaycard mention from yesterday?!

    • Rob says:

Oddly enough no. No-one else has come forward to say their card is being cancelled, albeit there are not that many of them out there.

      • AJA says:

I’ve not received anything to say my card is being cancelled either. My latest statement generated overnight and there’s nothing mentioned in the “This month’s updates” section either. I feel sorry for the few that have received closure notices but I’m hoping I can continue holding the card.

        • Tom says:

My postie has been and gone. Nothing from Barclaycard today…

        • Harrier25 says:

Same here, but am saddened for Rob’s friend. Not a card you want to lose due to the ease of retaining valuable Gold tier year after year.

      • John Caribbean says:

Hilton card just got declined on Curve…

        • Anna says:

Oh lord, not used it with Curve for absolutely ages then withdrew £200 a couple of weeks ago 🤦‍♀️

          • John Caribbean says:

I hadn’t for ages and then got stuck at a till in Morrisons with curve using revolut underneath which failed (revolut top ups aren’t working for me today) and I tried Hilton in a panic….

        • John says:

just tried to use my Curve fronted with HH and it got declined

    • Cathy says:

I’ve not had any news either, only replaced the cards about three weeks ago as my oh lost his on my account, they then had to replace both cards but were here within a week.

  • Max says:

I’d like to book an Avios redemption from London to Frankfurt. This used to be 4000 Avios plus £2x or 3x in taxes. I know see the following options:

    9750 Avios + £ 0.50

    9000 Avios + £ 4.50

    7750 Avios + £ 9.00

    5250 Avios + £ 17.50

    4050 Avios + £ 37.50

    3250 Avios + £ 47.50

Have they increased the Avios needed? Which of the above is the best?

    • Rob says:

Without wishing to state the obvious, it depends how you value an Avios.

If you value them at 10p, the £47.50 one is best. If you value them at 0.1p, the 50p option is better.

Personally I’d be confident about getting 1p+ for them on another redemption on another day, in which case I’d go for £47.50.

    • AJA says:

Is it Peak or Off-peak? BA had a slight devaluation a few months ago adding 750 Avios. The price matching £17.50 is usually the best option although there is an advantage to choosing the 50p option if you might possibly cancel as that is how much you would lose if you decide not to fly.

      • Mike says:

Do cancelled flights show up again? aka, can I do speculative bookings on the 0.50, cancel and then change it to the 17.50 later?

    • John says:

The “normal” option is 5250+£17.50 which is the best IMO

4000 +£17.50 was the old off peak price, the peak price was 4500, which recently increased to 5250

At nectar rates 5250+£17.50 = £59.50 one way.

      4050 + £37.50 is not a good deal because you’re paying £20 more and only saving 1200 avios, same for 3250 + £47.50

7750 + £9 is not good either because you’re spending 1500 avios to save £8.50. You can then spend a further 2000 avios to save another £8.50 which is even worse

      • John says:

        1500 should be 2500

      • Andrew H says:

Yes, I also assess on the increments: I pay £ until the next increment means I am paying more than 1p/saved Avios for that increment. The increments get progressively worse as you point out.

I don’t think it ever gets to the highest two additional £ deals

Works in reverse for offsetting cash fares with Avios, though these are generally poor deals

  • JohnT says:

Meila offer including Level at White House just booked for mid Dec!

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Thought I had saved the 50x eBay nectar offer. It’s gone!

    • Anuj says:

goto your nectar then re activate, worked for me

      • Jane says:

Can you see it on eBay ? mine is still showing base points only as being earned.

        • Anuj says:

No you need to go to partner offers on nectar, click save for later on eBay 50x offer. Then go to saved section of nectar, and click the saved offer. Press go to website which takes you to eBay for activation.

    • Lady London says:

      I didn’t even get it.
Sent them a note saying worse knowing so many friends did get it and I didn’t and if they want to get my regular week by week spending then no current advantage against other schemes I am a member of but just 1 or 2 really decent offers each year would have me switching regular spend to Nectar partners. Which not getting this offer when others did, hasn’t.

I’m sure my feedback will rock their world….not.
