We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I’ve just received an email from Creation with the £99 refund for the annual fee, but I’d never received notification my account was closing. I can see that points last transferred on 12th October but I can still see the points to be transferred over this month on the app and a progress bar for the free night voucher.

How do I know if my account is actually shutting? As the only recent communication is the email today I hadn’t stopped spending on the card.

    • Youllnever says:

Easiest way would probably be to wait till December 3rd and see if your account gets closed.

    • Adam says:

“How do I know if my account is actually shutting?” well, now you know 🙂

      • Anna says:

Yes – if it’s the same email my OH has just got, it clearly states that your card is closing on December 3rd!

        • Anna says:

Might be a good sign – they have repeatedly told people the £99 won’t be refunded so maybe they were “mistaken” about points and free nights as well …

    • Jill ( Kinkell ) says:

Ooh err….. getting me worried now. No letter, frequent emails from creation extolling the virtues of the CC. Points and progress to free night bar showing.. fee not due till March. So…… see what happens on Dec 3.

      • Lady London says:

Yup. There’s time to wait and see what nasty things occur starting Dec 3 and raise complaint at that time if you haven’t been notified of anything that then happens (or fails to).

  • Gary says:

Avios flight only booking. If passenger cancels flight & take FTV to circumvent the phone line, can one email/chat/phone at a convenient date later to refund everything minus £35pp?

If above is possible, presumably BA will confirm the FTV was taken outside 24hrs of departure otherwise it will have to stay as a FTV?

  • Rh says:

I have noticed more premium economy and business class reward flights have been loaded for London to Male. I just nabbed some. E.g. business class on 2nd December. Prem economy on a load of days.

  • Susan says:

BA is not currently showing indirect flights to RAK via MAD (so with 2nd leg on IB) on a day when there is no direct flight – it was doing so yesterday. Does anyone know whether this is another fabulous enhancement or just a common-or-garden BA-IT glitch?

  • YB says:

Anybody else having trouble submitting the documents required on BA’s site prior to check in? I’ve filled in everything, but when I click submit, the form just sits there…

  • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

    Monese SHOP50, SHOP200, SHOP400 is back

    • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

      and SHOP100

    • Alex says:

How much money are they burning lately?!

    • Paul says:

thanks, SHOP400 sold out but the others working

      • Will says:

Sainsbury and John Lewis work, but having problem accessing the Marks and Spencer voucher I ordered (build.giftcard.marksandspencer.services webpage) – there goes the saving!

    • Rich says:

      Thanks Karen honey.

    • Rich says:

Which brands are you all redeeming the credit for?

I tend to do Sainsbury’s, because it can be added to Apple Wallet so it’s easy to use. And top-up Uber credit.

May buy enough National Trust to renew my membership in January, which is usually DD.

      • Rich says:

Which reminds me. Sainsbury’s currently has 20% off a few gift cards, including the Great British Pub Card.

If you can buy gift cards with a Sainsbury’s gift card, that would be 36% off your Christmas pints.

I have stopped doing this, though, because my local pub can’t scan the card and the staff have started giving me the evil eye as they have to go through three screens on the till and type in the card number on a busy Friday night.

      • Aston100 says:

Mostly Sainsburys, but did £150 at John Lewis the other day and £100 on Ticketmaster.

      • ben says:

Spotify is good if you already subscribe as you can pre-pay your Premium account ( but can’t be combined with student or other discount. ) Morrisons can be used for petrol (so effectively a 20% petrol discount). Asda can be used for Amazon ( or other ) vouchers in-store. I guess Sainsburys / M&S if you shop there.

    • MattB says:

Thanks just purchased using shop100 as I was going into Sainsburys, about to stack with the 25% off 6 bottles offer

    • Steven says:

I don’t have Monese but keep seeing these types of offers getting mentioned. How do they work? Is it basically a discount on buying gift cards? Are there a wide variety of retailers to choose from? Many thanks.

      • Rich says:

Yes. You add funds to your Monese account first – sufficient to buy the card – eg £80 for the £100 code. Then enter the promo code. Then buy the gift card(s) you want.

        • Rich says:

          Delighted (!) to refer you – code RICHA234. You’ll get £5, and a further £15 when you spend £500.

          • Steven says:

Many thanks Rich, I’ve used your referral code. Just waiting for account to be set up as having difficulties with them verifying my address using geolocation.

          • Rich says:

            Thanks Steven

        • Rich says:

Sports Direct, Spotify, Body Shop, Ticketmaster, Uber, Virgin Holidays, Zizzi

      • His Holyness says:

I’ve been trying and it says not eligible, do you need a premium package?

        • Rich says:

You need to have enough money in there to purchase, before the code will work.

    • Reney says:

      thanks only shop100 working

  • Will says:

At risk of not reading the latest posts, BA.COM still not showing household accounts correctly in my case at least. Balance is reporting ok (I think, haven’t take a slide rule to the numbers), but then household page says I do not have a household, but I have a lot (8?) of friends and family I could travel with. Is this in line with other’s experiences still?

    • E says:

It says I don’t have a household account either but it does show a household balance as well as my individual balance. I don’t have any family or friends either though (but then I had none registered on there before either).
I wanted to add the in-laws to our household account but I think I’ll have to leave it a week or two and see if it sorts itself out. I’m concerned it could just screw things up (more) if I now try to create a new household account.

  • Steve says:

    Amex Pro rata refund question.
Is it calculated daily, weekly or monthly?
Hit the spend for the bonus but card has been open 2 months and a day so just wondering if it’s any point in rushing to cancel or will I get charged for 3 months any way?
    Cheers

    • AJA says:

I think the refund is per month so you have a few weeks. No point cancelling now.

      • Steve says:

Awesome thanks, figured as much from what I remember from last time but just checking
