We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

50x Nectar eBay offer: will going through a 3rd party for a double dip invalidate each other? Any ideas?

    • Tom says:

I don’t know for sure but i think it will work for a double dip. The nectar card is connected to the ebay account so that is how Nectar will track the transaction.

    • Travel Strong says:

Always double dipped on ebay with nectar offers. And no points tract infections to date.

  • Rob says:

Mate of mine just got a letter from Barclaycard cancelling his Hilton Honors card. 60 days notice.

He has been using it heavily with Curve but it isn’t clear if it is linked. Anyone else?

    • AndyW says:

Not yet but if it’s coming I will be getting one I’m sure…

    • Gavin says:

Nothing here and I’ve never used Curve.

    • Babyg says:

i use mine with Curve, thou i usually have Virgin as the default card, so usually its around £500 per month on “normal” (non-MS), most of my spend is foreign as im spending most of my time in portugal.. would be bummed if curve kills my hilton card. Did your mate MS/pay off other CC/lots of cash withdawals?

    • Hulk says:

Might as well go out with a bang if this is the case. I’ve been using mine with Curve & Revolut. Given that it’s highly unlikely to be just a select few customers, I may as well try and get my last 100k points.

    • David says:

If this is curve related, are we really surprised?

    • Harrier25 says:

      😕 Here we go again!

    • Youllnever says:

      Another one bites the dust!

    • David says:

Come on TGL, let’s hear your inspired thoughts on this.

      • Harrier25 says:

If it is Curve related then brace yourselves for yet another busy day on here tomorrow.
I do hope they don’t do a Creation and stop transferring points to Hilton!

    • Anna says:

Not today, though my HH points are a couple of days late posting this month 😬. Had they any ernie involvement?
I thought we’d decided this card was on borrowed time anyway – is this the beginning of the end?

      • Anna says:

Mistake, this month’s points showing in the app!

        • Harrier25 says:

Looks like we will soon only be left with Amex and Virgin Atlantic for our hotel points. Oh well, keeps things simple, I suppose.

So glad I decided from the start to never introduce my Virgin Atlantic credit card to Curve!

          • Anna says:

Mine has met Curve a couple of times for my hairdresser and dentist but has never been introduced to Che!

  • ash says:

Does marriott amex offer work on prepay for next year? Sorry I know this will have been asked before just can’t recall the answer

  • Russ says:

Have Hilton card but not Curve. Not heard anything.

  • Ian M says:

For travel to the US, are they recognising the UK NHS Covid Pass, and if so, are they letting travellers enter the US who have the Covid Pass on the grounds that they have natural immunity?

  • Paul says:

    Email just received from Creation:
Further to our notification that we are closing your account on the 3rd December 2021, we are pleased to tell you that we’ve refunded your annual fee of £99 and you’ll be able to see this amount as a ‘annual fee credit’ on your statement.

    What will happen next?

If you’re not planning to spend the £99 between now and 3rd December 2021 when your account closes, don’t worry, you do not need to take any action or contact us. We will arrange to get this sum back to you.

    • Andy says:

When did they take your card fee Paul?

      • Paul says:

        August. Refunded yesterday

        • Lady London says:

As I’ve said before, Creation can’t balance off any part of this against other things they owe you like free nights earned (or even, IMV, free nights partially earned) without your agreement. If they choose to “overrefund’ they still owe anything else the contract provided.

  • Andrew H says:

BA portal – Avios boost amounts now showing with a nice little icon of the retailer where you got the boost.

I’m up to the 500 Avios tag already on credited purchases – I now think that I am actually up to the full 10 purchases (5,500 total bonus Avios); will have to switch to Aer Lingus for the rest of the year – they are running the same scheme. Assume not cumulative across both.

(The Avios per purchase not necessarily the same – John Lewis 6/£1 at BA, 2/£1 at Aer Lingus)

  • James says:

Has anyone had any correspondence back from Creation after logging a complaint regarding the closure of the Marriott credit card ?

I only used my card for a single £15 Curve purchase and that was apparently the reason for the closure of my account in about a weeks time.

    • Anna says:

They can close your card whenever they want so I don’t think you’d have a complaint upheld about that alone.

    • Blenz101 says:

They haven’t told anybody why they have closed the card but those who have used it with Curve are the primary targets. It also came within weeks of them blocking the card being used with Curve altogether so by implication an activity they were not happy about.

They can close your card for whatever reason they like provided they give you the required notice.

      • Anna says:

That’s the IHG card, though, presume the Marriott one is something different.

      • Lady London says:

….Yes they can under the t’s and c’s however they are still obliged to pay any benefits earned, or anything else the contract provided, up to the date of closure. They can’t simply stop the card from being used earlier, for example as this is a direct breach and may have negative consequences for you.

Ditto if Creation thinks it doesn’t have to credit any points earned : Wrong, Creation! regardless of any fee refund as the fee was just for having the opportunity to use the card – loadsa cards have fees now just to hold them here and abroad.
