We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Could someone help me understand the £10k monthly curve metal limit.
Is that limit for ALL purchases/transactions or only specific ones and you can spend more than that for other purchases? If so, what transactions are included in the limit?
    Thank You

    • Mick S says:

the £10k is for “fronted” transactions. Unless others suggest a different approach I would suggest switching off “fronted” in the app, and just toggling it back on when paying a credit card balance with another credit card.

Would be helpful is Curve introduce something in the app to keep a log and balance of what transactions are fronted or not.

  • Neal says:

Creation charged £99 annual fee on 20th Nov. 13 days before account closure. Such audacity.

    • Youllnever says:

Some are saying they’ve received a refund today.

      • Yuff says:

I have received a refund, didn’t check which day it posted though

      • @mkcol says:

Likewise I’ve had a refund of £99 applied to my account yesterday.
I had raised a complaint a few weeks ago about not even getting a pro-rata fee refund & not getting my points I’d earned, as well as not having the foreign/IHG groupo spend accrue at the 4x multiplier.
Time will tell if they are going to be sent.

        • jj says:

          No refund here

        • Lady London says:

Mkcol make sure you get the rest. The fee refund only applies to the fee (even if “overrefunded” you are still owed the rest. Pursue from Dec 4 so it’s clear you never accepted that as full settlement.

          • @mkcol says:

Oh LL don’t you worry – when it comes to being a pedant I there at the front of the line, to get what I am entitled to!

    • Anna says:

OH received a refund today and Creation just called and asked to speak to him but he’s not here – could be re the loan we’ve just paid off though so not necessarily cc related.

      • Crafty says:

I’ve had an official email, logo’d up and everything, about the refund. Think it’ll be for all now.

  • H says:

    Hi,

Has anyone been to Morocco since the UK has been added to list B? Any experiences on the test which is required on arrival also?

    Thanks

  • T says:

Warsaw – best Marriott group hotel?

Which hotel is better? Sheraton or Marriott? I’ve ruled out the Westin as it’s lounge is not re-opened yet (offering vouchers instead).

    • zark says:

      T,
Personally prefer the Marriott with memories going back 30+ years.
      There is also The Bristol…

    • MrHandBaggageOnly says:

Good choice not to stay at the Westin, I stayed once and thought it was fine, but wouldn’t rush back. The Marriott has a great bar on the 40th Floor (assuming the cloud isn’t too low it blocks your view!) but I never stayed. It is close to the central station and shopping centre, if that is important. The Sheraton is not far away, but in a much quieter and calmer corner of the city – Trip Advisor reviews appear good.

As Zark says, there is also the Bristol, ideally placed for the Old Town, if you want that and can cope with the higher prices.

    • GeorgeJ says:

I have used both over the years, Marriot closer to decent restaurants and has its own decent sports bar.
I was there last month and used the Sheraton, it was very comfortable as always and nice large room, also has decent restaurants close by, there sports bar is unfortunately long gone. In a better part of town close to parks and Parliament.

    • APPL says:

I’d go for Marriott. Rooms are a bit dated, but as Platinum have always been upgraded to at least Junior Corner Suite while booking the cheapest room. Also, first 20 floors of the building are offices, so pretty much guaranteed nice view with rooms starting from floor 21. Decent offering in the lounge, and there is large shopping mall just across the street (Zlote Tarasy).

    • Adam says:

Definitely not Sheraton. It’s old, very bad soundproofing and they are very stingy with upgrades. As a titanium who bothered staying 3 times I only got one level upgrade to executive room. I would really recommend Westin. Their lounge was subpar but those vouchers entitle you to a good proper two course meal+ 2 drinks off the menu. In effect you get a good dinner! Warsaw Marriott has a verey good lounge, but rooms are bit dated and half of them have interconnecting doors.

  • Mco says:

Anyone know of a way to get some discount on tickets for the Cirque du Soleil LUZIA in London. They have a 30% off through Travelzoo. Is there any better discount through another source?

  • The Canuck says:

Not sure if this was common knowledge but showed up at the Plaza Premium T2 today and realized I forgot my plat card at home. They were more than happy to admit me by just giving them the 16 digit card number and expiry date… Useful if anyone finds themselves forgetful like me

  • CC says:

I’m waiting for HSBC World Elite card to arrive and my online banking now shows as a World Elite Card, but will using Premier credit card count to towards progress of the bonus points on World Elite while I wait for it? Might be doing a big spend this weekend.

    • CC says:

In case anyone reads this, the answer is yes, spend on Premier credit card will count towards £12,000 spend for 40,000 points

  • Andrew says:

    Turkey crisis!

Just been to the staff restaurant, thoroughly expecting to have a delicious Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings, followed by a generous slice of Pecan Pie – but have been left thoroughly disappointed. Their supplier couldn’t deliver the birds this year as they’re needed for Christmas orders and there was no Pecan Pie left.

So it was a delicious fillet of salmon in asparagus sauce and roasted baby tomatoes, served with boiled new potatoes and green beans with a blueberry muffin for dessert, but not what I wanted. *sad face*

    • Russ says:

Don’t tolerate it. It’s how we lost the Empire the first time round….

    • Spurs drive me mad says:

When I saw Turkey crises I thought you meant the country, clearly the feathered kind is a real crises!

    • Lady London says:

Poor you. Based on your wonderful descriptions of the other food you get in your canteen this day and other days, I’m trying to feel sorry for you but it’s just not working. Grrr.
