We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

New to Marriott, but just had the points for a stay post, and something seems not quite right.

Room was £120 £30 spent in bar

I received 272 points plus 27 as silver then 1500 as the bonus Marriott promo atm

272 points for £150 seems really wrong to me.

Happens not and again. Can either ask hotel to correct or wait 10 days and ask Marriott.

    • berneslai says:

What Marriott brand? This is quite a frequent occurence, around a third of my stays don’t have the correct points posted.

      • Tw33ty says:

It was a Marriott branded hotel, Marriott dyce Aberdeen

        • berneslai says:

Get in touch with the hotel. I thought you may have been at a Residence Inn or other brand where points are reduced.

I keep getting “Sorry, Something went wrong” on BA.com when trying to check avios availability (one way LHR-DUB). Is the functionality still down?

  • berneslai says:

Minor Marriott datapoint. I have quite a few award reservations for next summer in the US. Most have dropped 5k-10k points in price over the past 24 hours. It might be worth rechecking some of your advance bookings.

Going India at the end of Jan, I’ve submitted my passport renewal a week a go (didn’t go through fast track annoyingly and now its a bit late as I already send my old passport off which was delivered this Tuesday, though no update on application yet)

Thoughts on the timeline of getting passport in time to get a visa for India in person? as e-visa is not an option now, any experience with turnaround times?

Is shop small only on one card this year? Or have others got it on other cards?

  • Gary says:

Getting Thai Airways LHR-BKK 4 semi-flex biz tickets, so can MCOL BA (who refused to re-route beyond 1 year ticket validity). Prefer to use Amex Plat (would work nicely for SUB) but recently read plane tickets best with credit card (eg ironically BAPP). What are the risks if a charge card rather than credit card used with TG tickets? Aren’t these Thai flights cover by UK261?

    • Polly says:

Amex have their own equivalent of charge back and are pretty good as getting money back for you.

      • meta says:

In terms of EU/UK261 coverage only outbound LHR-BKK is covered.

        • Aston100 says:

I thought I read something a while back that the return leg is also covered if it is all on one ticket?
          Is that not the case?

          • John says:

No, but a connecting ticket is e.g. LHR-BKK-SYD provided that you are not actually going to BKK (gray area if you are stopping for a 2 hour meeting in the lounge etc)

          • Rob says:

No, return only covered if it is an EU airline.

  • C says:

Good morning. Trying to do an avios booking for 2 adults and an infant. Tried to add infant to HHA but it seems to require an email address / executive club number for each member of the HHA and won’t let me book online for anyone not in the HHA or family/friends list. Any tips? Create an email address for baby and sign them up? Or should I just book for 2 adults and call to add the infant?

    • berneslai says:

I gave my two kids e-mail addresses and added them to the household account.

  • Mr. AC says:

Is there any way to set a free alert to monitor for seats (regular cash, not avios) becoming available on a fully sold-out flight? Google Flights seems to only allow for monitoring of the price if the flight has any tickets available in the first place.
