We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone able to find any good prices with the Qatar Black Friday sale?

    • MQ says:

I did a quick search but nothing appears to be discounted……..

      • Safety Card says:

I price checked tokyo from london in business in the spring which came in at £1.7k which seemed pretty good to me. But the rest is a mystery

        • George says:

Where’d you find that fare? Can only see £2300 lon to tokyo from Qatar in spring?

          Thanks

          • Safety Card says:

Was just searching using promo code access which was sent in an email for early Black Friday access

        • George says:

Even with that promo code I still can’t find them. Must have gone by now. Thanks anyway

  • Jon says:

In case this is useful to @Amy C, or anyone else, further to yesterday’s discussion – here are the CAA’s interpretive guidelines re UK/EU261 Article 8:

    https://www.caa.co.uk/uploadedFiles/CAA/Content/Accordion/Standard_Content/Our_work/Annex%201Reouting%20under%20Regulation%20EU261%20and%20the%20CAAs%20view%20on%20compliance.pdf

In particular, at top of page 4:

“Where the air carrier does not offer the choice between reimbursement and re-routing … but decides unilaterally to reimburse the passenger, he or she is entitled to a further reimbursement of the price difference with the new ticket under comparable transport conditions.”

(But do read the full section, as there are some caveats.)

Flying to Rome on Saturday with BA. They’ve emailed asking to upload negative test certificate, vaccination certificate and completing all travel declarations in Manage My Booking so that we can check in online 24 hours prior. How quickly do they verify these documents? Could we upload them this evening for example?

  • Kumar says:

Can we use Randox PCR test at home for travel to India. I am aware the swab needs to be taken in 72 hrs before travel but not monitored .Does Randox PCR test result at home say anything about supervision?

    • LS says:

      Not Obviously

    • Shaw West says:

there is no issue about the unmonitored test as long as you are sending them to a lab and the report is provided by the lab

      • meta says:

There is an issue as some countries stipulate that it needs to be supervised and at home tests are not acceptable. My Randox test certificate said unsupervised, so do it at your own risk.

People who had the £99 refund from Creation: Was this applied in your account or sent by cheque?

(I’ve had nothing except an interest charge for the day their website was down and I couldn’t pay my bill.)

    • Sam says:

      Applied in my account

      • Jim says:

Applied to my account. Now spent the £99 topping up revolut, so the cash has been transferred out of revolut and is now in my current account!

    • Rui N. says:

Did you get that interest charge reversed already? Trying for over a month to get it done.

  • Shaw West says:

“Double Rewards. Double the Fun” From Emirate.
I thought it was going to be double points. But turns out t was a mail highlighting the “YOUR WORLD REWARDS™”

    • Rob says:

I just got a 15% off email from Singapore Airlines and it was for 15% off the miles cost of their terrible value suitcase / costmetics etc redemptions.

  • Scott says:

Potentially a tube strike tomorrow for those using the Picadilly line etc. to LHR.

  • Peter Taysum says:

    E-bay

I got 5x points for Nectar/e-bay which wasn’t “the hour” x50. Used it, thinking better than nothing for low value item I wanted anyway.

Yesterday the “app” notified me of the “50x offer” mentioned on here, so might be worth people checking again.

I’m looking at “apple AirPods Pro” because my Bose QC are dying; has anyone tried both; “Which” has Sony noise cancelling over ear beating all others, but AirPods Pro win overall…

I first had Bose WC on “the baby bus” and bought them soon after… Good times…

    • Benilyn says:

AirPods Pro are good, but not the best sound quality I’d say. Are you referencing the Bose QC over ears or in ear ones?

And the Sony Over ears I own too, hands down very good, can pick up sub £200 probably in BF sales

    • Graham Walsh says:

Two very different products/use cases with AirPods Pro vs the Sony’s. I have the Pro’s and use them for when I travel light. I have Sennheiser MB660 or Plantronics 8200 for when I’m flying. I also just given some new Shure Aonic 50, not had a chance to use them yet,

    • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

I have the wireless Bose QuietComfort earbuds. Is that what you have? Dying how? Not still under warranty?
They are superb in general and were exceptional on flights.
I tried the Sony XM4 and they were not very good with in-flight noise so I returned them.
Bose QC earbuds currently £70 off at the Bezos Emporium. If yours are out of warranty Bose also give discounts on new ones if you return the broken ones.

    • John says:

I won an auction yesterday that I bid on before the 5x offer appeared. The 5x offer was applied automatically and there was no way to unapply it, though perhaps if I won another item or did a buy it now the offer would apply to the first item paid for.

Today on the ebay home page there was an ad which let me register for the 50x. I had already registered for 50x via the app.

Found an item that I want to buy for a reasonable profit, 3 available. If the 50x appears to work I’ll reveal after buying
