We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi, has anyone got any recent experiences of travelling to Morocco since the UK is now being treated as a list B country (PCR 48 hours before) and I think a antigen on arrival? Thanks

  • Mco says:

Could anyone recommend a restaurant close to LHR on the Amex dining offer? Don’t really want to drive into central if there is a decent place close to Heathrow.

  • r* says:

What happens if you have reached a BAPP signup bonus spend, the signup points are showing on the amex site but are yet to be transferred to BA, but then a purchase has to be refunded which would take the spend just below the £3,000 to trigger the bonus?

The 3 month window to spend the £3000 has passed, but I have spent more than whats about to get refunded but that spend came outside of the 3 months to do the target spend. Do they pull the points back in this scenario?

If I was able to delay the refund until after the points post to BA, what would happen then when the refund did hit?

    • Rob says:

You lose the bonus if not transferred. If it is transferred you keep it but your Amex Avios balance goes negative.

    • Anna says:

There’s a good chance that Amex will claw back the bonus automatically when the refund hits, I would contact them and ask if they would honour it as a goodwill gesture. Will the refund definitely be processed before the points go to BAEC though?

      • r* says:

Theres two refunds that will be going through, one certainly before points post and one which I might be able to stop, so long as I can stop the second (smaller) one it should be okay. I was planning on keeping the card, which I wouldnt be able to do if it went -25k avios tho.

Tesco 750 Clubcard for hotels.com complaint continues. Tesco bank just tried telling me it is for invited cardholders only. I replied that is NOT in terms and conditions. They have now gone away to take another look. Stupid customer service approach.

    • James says:

I was just thinking the other day I participated in this and haven’t received anything

    • Tom says:

I also have a complaint open regarding this. Haven’t heard anything yet.

  • Sam says:

Unrelated to travel, but does anyone have a discount code for Mytheresa? Thanks!

  • Njb says:

Wanting to book Gild Hall in NYC – holding out for Black Friday – have Hyatt historically had sales?
Daughter moving into Spruce St in FiDi (next to Brooklyn Bridge) – any other recommendations for hotels nearby welcome.

    • Grant says:

The Beekman is nice – on Nassau St

      • Njb says:

Its more expensive but looks very nice I must say.

        • Grant says:

Booking via Emyr will get you breakfast / F&B credit – possibly both, I can’t quite remember now.

          • Njb says:

I have been in touch with Emyr for Gild Hall – gets breakfast/$50 credit and upgrade if available on day of arrival. Was hoping Black Friday might bring better!

  • Graham Walsh says:

Any thoughts on whether BA might move some flights from LHR back to LGW next summer when they sort out the new operation there for European flights? I need to book a hotel for the night before our honeymoon, so thinking Sofitel. But if they change departure, then I’d have to use a flex rate, 20% higher!

    • Andrew H says:

I got 20% off flex rates for Sofitel T5 for Dec and Feb yesterday on Hotels.com, plus double reward nights. Maybe that works for next summer so would offset the higher flex cost.

    • Rob says:

Yes, they will – but only ‘Summer sun’ stuff like Palma, Alicante etc. If you’re off to Iceland, Berlin etc I doubt you’re at risk.

    • N says:

Can only speak for myself, but I wouldn’t book anything that isn’t flex at this point for next summer

      • Andrew H says:

The man is off on his honeymoon and is worried about £20 or £30…

        • Graham Walsh says:

Lol, I don’t like giving money away for the sake of it. Honeymoon hotel was full price, direct, but at least on my new Virgin+ card to hit the spend bonus and save the FX fees. Flights are 241 Business seats.

  • Alex B says:

Melia dragging their feet other awarding points for incidental spend. First told me it wasn’t a thing, and when I copy and posted the FAQs saying it was, have told me it says you have to contact the hotel directly (which haven’t responded to a separate email) to get them apply (which it doesn’t say anywhere).

Not sure I can be arsed to spend any more time chasing £10 worth of points but it’s a bit of a sour taste.

    • Gavin says:

I generally find their IT and customer service to be poor.

    • Yorkieflyer says:

I popped back to the Meliá White House when I didn’t get my points and the F&B manager kindly sorted it for me
