We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Am I missing something or can Virgin supplementary credit cards not be added to the app? On a related note if the main cardholder has an offer does spend on the supplementary count towards this? How are you meant to know which offers there supplementary card has?

  • rams1981 says:

paw – despite having a 1% rate stated for Morrisons the last 2 transactions have gone through 3 times and at 3% so giving 9%. Anyone else have the same?

    • Alex says:

Why some people have 10% vs 1%? Does it depend on your employer’s agreement with PAW?

      • rams1981 says:

I did have 10% but it fell to 1% in last month or so. Likewise Virgin have cut me off as well.

Michael O’Leary now provides commentary on transatlantic routes, as well as short haul: “his view of the threatened recovery contrasts with that of Virgin Atlantic Airways…”

Does anyone know the best way of escalating a problem within Marriott? I was walked from the Four Points Gatwick last week and offered a very generous points package for my inconvenience. The points haven’t been deposited and all my mails are being ignored, to the extent that I can’t even get a folio to claim a missing stay.

    • Russ says:

I was walked as well but offered The Courtyard at Gatwick. Also got them to pay for the car parking there. The manager seems ok bloke but just at his wits end trying to cope with everything. Suggest you give him a call – name’s Atanu Bhowmick.
Mind me asking what the points incentive was? I’ve just been walked in February as well.

      • Russ says:

Actually just looking at Marriott’s TC’s and if I’ve read it correctly we are entitled to both $100 and 90,000 points? Is that correct can anyone confirm. Thanks.

        • N says:

Being “walked” can actually only happen on the day of your arrival.

If your booking has been shifted in advance, you haven’t been walked.

    • Matthew says:

Try emailing: “Marriott.bonvoychampion@marriott.com” and explaining your situation. That’s the email they list for Bonvoy “Lurkers” (Bonvoy Customer Care Staff who lurk around on the forum) on the Flyertalk forum and they’ve always been very good at responding and resolving issues for me.

      • meta says:

I’d contact them on Twitter. They are pretty good.

The hotel should have given you $100 in local currency plus pay for the night, but only if you’re Platinum or above you get 90k at Four Points (other brands have different levels of compensation). They should have also paid for the first night (or night) at the new property plus covered the transport to it.

And of course only if you are actually walked on the day.

Do Virgin Rewards Credit Card c@shb@ck offers track if the card is used either via PayPal or via Curve?

  • DAJ says:

Has anyone any experience of the new pro-active upgrades that Hilton are now offering Gold/Diamonds 3 days in advance of stay? Have a stay tomorrow and nothing forthcoming!

    • Rob says:

If the hotel is 90% full it doesn’t happen. If you’re Gold your ‘upgrade’ will often be a ‘preferred’ room ie same category, better view or higher floor.

      • meta says:

There are also non participating hotels and since the list is not published, I’m inclined to think that was just marketing from Hilton. I wouldn’t be surprised that only a small amount of properties (more aspirational?) are actually participating. I know at least one hotel (Hilton Belgrade) that that they are not participating and do their upgrades on the morning off first based on frequency, then on the status.

    • Gavin says:

Interested to know too, I’m Diamond and staying at Doubletree Bristol central shortly so will see what happens

      • Anna says:

I’m staying at the Doubletree Chester in a couple of weeks, will report back.

        • meta says:

And LL has a reader story today where they were downgraded on a confirmed automatic upgrade by the hotel…

        • cabal of rabid baboons says:

Hilton Malta informed me of our upgrade yesterday for tomorrow , therefore @48hours, (Diamond)

        • Steve says:

Stayed there at the weekend and didn’t get any sort of upgrade despite clearly being plenty of rooms available to be upgraded in to (Am Diamond)

      • S says:

I got upgraded to highest available suite at Hilton Canary wharf for this weekend (Diamond)

    • Steven says:

Yes, we have a one night stay booked for Saturday night and received confirmation of an upgrade today.

  • Jack says:

Am off to Paris shortly, I have the NHS proof of vaccination and the ‘declaration of honour’. Seems you need to prove vaccine status to get into restaurants/cafe etc ‘TousAntiCovid’? Can anyone confirm if NHS app sufficient for this too? Thanks in advance

  • Jody says:

Amex Gold Card – my card is around 3 weeks old now. Still says no offers showing. Have spent a fair amount on it. Have never had this problem before.

Also, added husband as a supp card holder at the weekend. Card arrived yesterday. No sign of any points though for adding him. Whenever I’ve done this before on any Amex card (including previous gold cards) the points have gone on pretty much the next day, and always before the card has arrived. Are they just slow at the moment, or is it worth querying?

Also thanks again to the poster who put the railcard discount code last night. Couldn’t get my photos to work on the app (no idea why, it wouldn’t tell me the problem, just wouldn’t go any further) but managed it on the computer.

    • Anna says:

Hi Jody – points and offers are very slow just now. I and a few others have been told up to 90 days for adding supps recently. I got a new gold recently and it took about 4 weeks for offers to start trickling through. I think Amex are trying to stop people churning the cards too quickly.

      • Jody says:

Cheers Anna. Makes sense I suppose, and I am definitely guilty of churning gold cards between me and my husband. Will be keeping this card a few months, so hopefully the supp points will turn up at some point. Bit annoying about the offers though, fingers crossed it’s soon.

I’ve also got the BA Premium that I’ve desperate to cancel, but my avios weren’t sent over as they usually were (as it fell within the dates of the BA IT work I guess) and they’re still sat there when I log into Amex, no idea when they’ll be moved over.
