We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Hey,

Is it possible to extend the expiry date for Accor reward points?

Mine will expire in the next 30 days, not sure what to do with it since i won’t be travelling anytime soon

    • Ed says:

Look for the recent Accor club opinions article

      • sam says:

I’ve just spent 30min trying out a few surveys. all of them rejecting me after answering loads of questions

        • Ed says:

It will eventually work. Whether it’s worthwhile depends on the number of points you stand to lose and how you value your time. If you’ve got £1k of points, then unless you’re a very high roller then I’d say it be worth while. If you’ve got 500 points then perhaps not.

    • Pete says:

I was under the impression that Accor had extended expiry until Dec 2022?
      Certainly mine has extended

    • Roy says:

Are you sure you read the year right?

    • Roy says:

On the offchance that you signed up for the Accor / Flying Blue partnership back when it launched (which Rob wrote about at the time) but don’t actually generally pay any attention to it – it’s possible you have, unbeknownst to you, earned enough Flying Blue miles that you can do a transfer to Accor.

    • Alex B says:

Download the APP and register to earn points in bars/restaurants when not staying.

This option is dependent on where you live, i.e. if you live in Central London, the Bar at the top of Novotel in Canary Wharf has some nice views if you live in say Norwich I’m not sure I’d want to go out of my way to eat at the Mercure restaurant.

  • TicknBash says:

Does anyone know what happens to an existing booking if the hotel leaves / rebrands before the stay ?

Hilton Maidstone and Glasgow Grosvenor seems to be leaving the brand 31/12.

Would the hotel need to honour the booking and price (after rebranding) or can they just cancel the booking and no compensation due ?

    • Nick says:

Cash bookings usually stay, redemptions usually get cancelled. If you push it, most chains will switch the latter to an alternative nearby (but they don’t have to).

    • Can says:

      Hurrah for Maidstone.

    • Rob says:

Bookings for cash are honoured (but no points earned) whilst redemptions are cancelled.

    • Peggerz says:

Sheesh! Booked the Hilton Maidstone for March as a Diamond. What now? ( little recognition was expected anyway!). I quite like playing hotel roulette. About 10 years ago the IC Cologne did the same to me after booking. Became a Dorint (?). Not much changed……..

  • Margaret says:

My avios (c.14,000) transferred from Amex arent showing yet on my BAEC account. Has anyone else had an issue . Apologies if it’s been on a previos days message, but a *bit* concerning!

    • ChrisC says:

Some people are reporting getting theirs coming through but given the length of the outage there is likely to be a considerable backlog to process so a little patience is needed.

    • Lawro says:

Mine arrived this morning, having left Amex on the 11th. HSBC Reward points also posted so my feeling is that these were held back in the background while they made sure the other aspects of BAEC were back working first.

    • NvT1115 says:

      Same here – hopefully tomorrow…

  • Benilyn says:

BA – flying to MLE tomorrow. The pre flight verification not going through for baby, who is <1 and does not need PCR. I can sort this out at check-in right?

    • Benilyn says:

They keep rejecting my verification for baby asking for COVID-19 test, the parents are verified.

    • Andrew says:

Yes I never bother doing anything before I go to the airport and just get them to check it all when I check-in at the airport.

    • AFKAE says:

I found that even for adults you can check in for MLE, but a message comes up that some destinations require physical passport check at departure. Presumably MLE is one of those. If you’ve done everything else then it’s 2 seconds at bag drop and away you go.

  • Ming the Merciless says:

    Evening.

Work has been busy and I’m now facing sending mid 6 figure sums to HMRC annually. 1st works problem.

Curve doesn’t touch the sides, tesco debit has closed down (almost but I’ve topped this quarter out), billhop is too expensive.

Any suggestions to make this slightly beneficial?

  • Ryan says:

I’m travelling out of Heathrow T5 tomorrow, which would be the best lounge for me to go to with my platinum Amex or priority pass. Club aspire or plaza premium? Thanks

  • C says:

Have BA changed there rebooking policy? Flights have been cancelled but they are saying they can only rebook in the same fare class and wanted to reprice the ticket for moving the dates into next year. Paid with cash.

    • meta says:

Wow! New low for BA. Hang up and call again. You have full UK261 rights to a re-route at the date of your convenience. Have a look at the various daily threads for how to go about it including today. Lady London, blenz101 and myself help out here. If you get stuck come back with specific questions, best in the morning.

      • C says:

Thanks for the reply. I thought it didn’t seem right. He said he could only rebook within 14 days of the initial flights otherwise it’s a new price. He wanted to charge an extra £250 per person for the new dates. I’ve sent them a message on Twitter so let’s see what they say

    • ChrisC says:

Is this a flight only or a holiday booking?

Separate rules apply and they aren’t always interchangeable. Mak.es a big difference

The 14 days make it sound like this is a BA Hols rather than flight only booking.

  • Matthew says:

Best bonvoy redemption ever? 25,000 points a night or £7.8k!! At the Courtyard LCY 1-2 Dec. Looks like the intern has entered the wrong numbers 😂. More like 7800p…
