We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Advice , I’m on a Marriott bonvoy plat status challenge and I need to stay 1 more night to complete the challenge and get platinum for 1 year

I live in the sticks and the nearest Marriott is some distance from me

Any idea which properties would let me check in – out via the app and not actually be physically there to do it. want the cheapest hotel possible as I won’t be staying there. Courtyard LGW has rates for £50 via website , happy to pay that to get the 1 night stay credited, is it worth an email to them explaining the rational behind it or is the a no no and against T&C

    • N says:

App check in is not check in from my conversations when I asked earlier this year. Do you have any friends who need a hotel?

    • Anuj says:

Yes it’s definitely worth an email, if on phone try asking to speak to manager.

Would second guest strategy with someone you know work?

We are flying from Manchester on a family holiday in February and would like to use on of the lounges. The problem is that the party size is 10 – 6 adults & 4 children, and it appears that they will only take bookings for groups larger than 6, whether booked together or separately. It appears that I can successfully book separately (2Ad+2Ch, 2Ad+2Ch, 2Ad0Ch). We all have the same surname, what is the likelihood of us being refused entry on the day if they think we have tried to get round the group booking rule?

    • ChrisC says:

A group is 6 or more?

There are 10 in your party

      10 > 6

Not sure I see the problem.

But you do have to call them as per Escape Lounge T&Cs for example (other lounges may have different rules)

      2. Groups of 5 or more

2.1. Groups of 5 or more planning to use the Lounge must receive prior authorisation before booking, you can do this by phoning the contact centre (+0808 169 7030). Failure to do so will result in access to the Lounge being denied and no refunds will be given. Please note that separate bookings forming a group larger than 5 people will be refused access to the Lounge and no refunds will be given.

If you are all on the same flight/holiday booking, it may not be worth risking.

Hello, quick question regarding returning into Scotland’s Day 2 pcr/lateral flow test please.

Assuming no rule changed by end of Jan 2022, I was looking to (proactively) buy the pcr/ lateral flow test while still in the UK. I have seen so many providers and some of them are really cheap (less than £1). I am not looking for anything fancy and expensive as not travelling for work this time.

Anyone has done this before and can recommend a few reliable ones to order from?

    Cheers,
    Vit

    • Andrew says:

That’s the general idea anyway, you order your test kit before you go, so you have your test number for your PFL for your return and don’t need to worry about it again while you’re away.

I can’t remember. Were there any reports on getting loyalty points on Hotel Collection prepaid rates? Thinking of using Amex Travel offer on a Hilton, but also don’t want to miss out on points.

    • Stephan V says:

I’ve had two stays this quarter – Hilton Berlin, Boeiro Garden Gaia (Porto) – where reception was happy to add Hilton account at check in. Both stays credited with points. No Gold breakfast, but then I did get the Hotel Collection benefits.

  • ChrisC says:

@Rob if you’re wondering why there aren’t any comments on the using AMEX MR points you forgot to turn on the comments.

  • David says:

NHS Covid Travel Pass now updated with booster shot. Got mine on 4 November. Booster shot is now the first of the three screens. PDF document now on two pages with booster and second shot on first page, First shot appears on second page. Israel considers you unvaccinated if six months will have elapsed

    • David says:

…since your second vaccine shot (before your proposed departure home from your visit to Israel and you have not had a booster.) Even if you have a booster, you will still be considered unvaccinated unless 14 days have elapsed before the beginning of your proposed visit. Expect crazy rules like that elsewhere.
