We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just booked a very last minute redemption from NYC-LHR for tonight in Premium Economy. Fees were 2,200 out of JFK but only 200 out of EWR.

Putting aside the extortionate fees out of JFK, I’ve never remembered such an astronomical difference in fees between two US destinations before? Since when did this become a thing?

    • ChrisC says:

I could see them doing this of JFK flights are busy and ot could dovert come cost conscious people to switch to EWR

Normally I don’t see much difference in fares between either airport.

Or it could just be a result of the IT debacle

  • Tw33ty says:

Currently in the Marriott courtyard at Inverness airport this evening.
Rather nice tbh, especially for the price and the state off play with other hotels in Inverness these days.
7 miles from the town itself, but more than worth the extra drive instead of staying at the dreary hie

    • Sandgrounder says:

I did 2 nights last September, nice and new and I was out sightseeing in the car anyway, so the drive was no problem

  • Nick Booker says:

    Good evening.

I have a £50 off £200 Amex travel offer on my Amex. When I look to book flights to kos Greece for next year Aug/Sept. both Easyjet and indeed British Airways come up cheaper on their own websites than Amex travel. Has anyone experience of price match on flights or is it only hotels on Amex travel

    • Bill says:

How do you do a price match for hotels ?

    • John says:

Does the Amex travel flight include checked luggage?

    • Aston100 says:

I find Amex Travel is often more expensive than booking directly with airlines and car hire firns. Sounds crazy but has happened to me many times

    • Js says:

In general Easy jet is £7 more. british airways is ushally identical to ba website, sometimes it will be wayyyy more check a day or 2 later and its back to normel

  • Richard says:

Trying to book flights using a booking made in Sept 2020 for a flight in Jan. Agent says the policy has now reverted to validity only being 12 months from date of booking? Is this correct? Very unimpressed as was on to Youfirst about an Avios booking 6 weeks ago and they confirmed validity was 12 months from date of outbound flight and made no reference to this being a temporary change. If I had known that I would have locked in some flights much earlier.

    • Richard says:

      Let me be cleared:
      Booking made: Sept 2020
      Original Flight Date: Jan 2021
Flight was cancelled due to lock down.
Based on new BA policy of 12 months from date of flight I thought I had until the Jan date to book new flights.

      • Blenz101 says:

If they cancelled the flight you are entitled by law to be rebooked.

If you have escalated as far as you possibly can via customer services then send them a Letter Before Action giving them 14 days to rectify the situation under your UK261 rights. They may move at this point.

If not you can either CEDR or MCOL. Search this site for pros and cons of both. You will win at either, MCOL will be quicker but you will need to pay court fees up front and may need to buy the new ticket you want to claim for upfront.

CEDR could take 6 months+ but BA should comply with the ruling which will be to rebook you.

        • Lady London says:

Plus no costs as you get the relatively lowish court fees back and if you had to lay out money – since British Airways is flagrantly denying you your clear right in the full knowledge that they are doing so – you whack 8% pa statutory interest onto your claim payable ftom date you paid till their repayment reaches your account.

  • Scott says:

Is the IHG website sluggish today, or is it just me?
Lots of errors, spinning wheels, and taking a lot longer to confirm a booking (assuming it has gone through)

  • BP says:

Any chance of a Randox Black Friday code? Looking to do an in-person PCR next week. BA code takes £5 off to make it £50
