We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

ALL mobility service email just popped in:

Earn and use Reward points during your trips: 1 euro = 1 Reward point.
Compare multiple offers to get the best rate and shortest waiting time.
Select your vehicle according to your needs for personal or professional trips

It also says you earn reward points on every trip, so pay with points, earn points on it too it seems.

I checked two or three of my normal routes and they were at least 10%, and in some cases 35% more expensive than other providers. Therefore, I would not be interested in booking through the service until it dropped to around a 1%, 2% at a push, difference.

Looking to hire a car in Mauritius, going to hertz via IHG link comes back too expensive compared to kayak. If I book though kayak can I just turn up and say I am a 5 star gold member to get the additional driver and hopefully an upgrade or do I need to let them know in the booking? Thanks

I’ve done 3rd party bookings 4 or 5 times, and it’s always been fine, but each time I’ve messaged the booking company to obtain the Hertz (also done Avis) reference then added it to my bookings in the app. Not sure if that’s why it’s worked, of I’ve just been lucky, or it would have worked anyway, but once it’s visible in the app it also shows extra benefits available from status, so difficult for them to be denied at pick up.

Not as slow as my BA executive account

  • Dee says:

Looks like the BA app is working again. Not the web page though

    BA Holidays 2

I have a CDG … NYC Holiday booking for next January. The CDG-LHR-CDG legs got cancelled and with the huge cuts to the schedule the alternatives didn’t appeal.

So I emailed them and asked if I could start/end the trip at LHR instead or BRU/AMS. I made no mention of the 300 mile rule but of course knew it existed.

Reply came back specifically mentioning the 300 mile rule so BRU and AMS (despite them initially saying it wasn’t as the agent used the wrong distance!) are both OK.

LHR wasn’t an option because whilst it is within 300 miles of CDG it’s not in the same currency as the original trip. She also used ZRH and Swiss Francs as another example that wouldn’t be allowed

    • Mart says:

Is this because it was a baholidays booking?
I presume a BA flight only booking would allow the change to LHR?

  • Mco says:

Does a FHR booking online through Amex trigger the Amex travel cash back?

Do you really need to post the email that we all received and all the terms and conditions too??!! Good God man! 🙄

Argh my PAW 25% off Tesco transaction from last Thursday hasn’t tracked. Realised today my card was also registered at VS Shops Away, so possible card clash. Have unregistered it now in case that helps.

Has anyone had success raising a claim with PAW if you’ve caned it a bit on gift cards as well as bourbon creams?

    • BlueHorizonUk says:

My transaction from 9 Nov only tracked today. So don’t give up yet!!
