We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Any ideas for a Virgin Tier Point run as their 2-4-1 vouchers are better with status?

    • Degsy says:

Really not sure how it works, it’s not really mentioned on here unlike BA ones. Could you somehow work London to Caribbean via say Boston?

  • Stephen M says:

    Hi everyone

Heading down to London tomorrow. Have the Amex Play dining offer but won’t be with my family and won’t be taking them down until after December. Anyone any experience of getting a gcard in Gaucho or Hawksmoor – Remember they were mentioned but didn’t want to make a special trip otherwise. Thanks!

    • Gavin says:

I’ve bought gift cards from both Gaucho and Hawksmoor in-person on previous Amex offers and they worked fine. Make sure the branch you’re at is included on the offer!

  • Stephen M says:

Called Gaucho and they do sell gift cards but I think my request of whether its billed directly by the restaurant got lost in translation lol

  • trader363 says:

BA back up – managed to make a redemption!

  • Harrier25 says:

Just received another spam email from Curve telling me to add more cards to my account….errr, no thanks!

  • Hulk says:

Any tips for getting discount codes/vouchers to eat in at Pizza Express?

    • henry437 says:

If you have tesco clubcard vouchers you can convert 3/1

    • Alex M says:

Or if you have Morrison’s offer you can buy gc there.

    • Harrier25 says:

Currently 20 pts per £1 at PizzaExpress on my Nectar Connect app.

    • Sam G says:

Usually a code floating around for a free drink or starter

    • Anna says:

Is Buy A Gift still a thing? I used to buy vouchers for meals for two at Pizza Express which were terrific value and also earned Clubcard points. There’s a branch next door to our local cinema so it made a good night out (back in the days of loads of Clubcard points).

      • Craig says:

It is, we do similar for Prezzo which is also next to the cinema, quite regularly get three courses and a small glass of wine for two people for £30. Being a cheapskate I wait until they email me a £10 off voucher.

    • Chrism20 says:

Reward Gateway (Similar to PAW) has Pizza Express instant vouchers at 10% so it may be worth checking your workplace discount scheme if you have one

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Long time LNER guard Graeme Wright has died suddenly today. If you’ve encountered funny announcements on an east coast service before then it could well have been him. Unfortunately I never got to talk to him in person (I had been on some of his trains but it was before I knew who he was) but he followed me on Twitter and was always happy to talk about his job and his love of the railway. He was one of the founders of the 225 society. I feel in shock, so I can imagine how it must feel for his family, friends and colleagues. I followed him on Strava and his last post was a ride on his Peloton bike just yesterday so this is completely unexpected.

I was going to download the Verifly app, but reviews on google store re almost universally one star. Does it work?

    • BLT says:

Worked well for me returning from spain last month.

    • davef says:

My only experience was that it worked and I could show a green tick at checkin which saved the agent poring over my paperwork.
Other than that seemed pretty useless and doesnt work for my forthcoming Finland and Cyprus trips.
Aer Lingus are really pushing it though, so your mileage is route dependent

    • Rob says:

Worked OK going to Barbados – ie it let me check in online (you can’t do it unless you pass Verifly). Was zero use coming back. If you need to drop bags then it doesn’t add much.

    • Peggerz says:

The airport staff at HER just looked at it and said ‘ so this is what it looks like’ & then ignored it. Useless.

    • Tracey says:

Worked welcoming back from Madeira. Just showed the VeriFLY green square and they didn’t want to see any paperwork, it also meant we could check in and get boarding passes in advance. That said all the lounges at Madeira airport were closed “due to Covid”, so it just left us more time to sit airside.

    • Ikaz says:

You don’t need the app, there is also a website where you can upload the docs, I received a link bu text from BA when I flew

    • @mkcol says:

Worked fine going to/from Norway last weekend.
