We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

With BA down does anyone have any tips for getting to Peru since LATAM pulled out of One World and BA pulled the route?

    • LewisB says:

300k avios to my disposal and 3 virgin vouchers and 80k VA miles.

    • e14 says:

      Yeah – IB ?

      • LewisB says:

Should’ve mentioned I’m one of those -90,000 with Iberia but I guess I should wait and see what happens when BA comes back live… Looks like I could potentially book AA from Miami as well.

        • Nik says:

I am also in that club (but only to the extent of -18000). Is there any clue on how it will end up? I have not touched my Iberia account for the 35 months, since the deduction in December 2018, and am hoping that after 3 years of inactivity it will be cleared to zero. Am I being realistic? Will the moves towards merging the various Avios schemes risk these being deducted from my BAEC balance?

A couple of weeks ago, someone posted a nifty trick for recording calls on an iPhone (add voice recording to control centre, hit record, dial number)

Just tried it. It doesn’t actually seem to work….anyone have any luck?

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

I think you had to be on the call first and then hit record?

    • Neil says:

Sadly just not possible on iPhone

Clunky work around is hold a conversation over speakerphone, meanwhile recording on another device such as another phone, iPad or dictation machine etc.

    • Tracey says:

I posted it. It works for me, you need to actually record the conversation. You should see a coloured bar at the top of your screen when you are on the call.

      • Tracey says:

Did you see the countdown on the screen?

If something is going wrong you can also try following the same pattern with a video of your screen.

        • AndyGWP says:

If you call and then do the voice recording, it comes up with a message saying you can not record whilst using the phone

If you record then do the call, the recording auto stops

Tried the screen recorder and doesn’t record the sound for me

          (iOS 14.8.1)

Think I read somewhere that the Marriott voucher ( gained from amex spend) can be topped up with points for a better hotel
    Is that correct?

  • Aston100 says:

Looking at the list of test providers on BA’s site, in regards to testing for the USA.
Anyone used ‘Screen4’ before? They seem cheapest at £24 for a supervised LFT.
Their website seems a bit odd, so instead I’m thinking of paying £29.75 to Qured, whom I have heard of.
    Thoughts? alternative suggestions?

    Thanks.

Hi all. Is the old AA MBNA card still fee free for foreign transactions? I’ve got this and the old BMI ones and I’m sure I read somewhere one of these was changing

Anyone know of Wimbledon Morrisons has any jlp or Amazon gift cards?Trying to work out whether I want to add 30 minutes into my commute home. Thanks

    • TGLoyalty says:

The good thing is they will have Morrisons GCs which means your trip wouldn’t be entirely wasted as they can be swapped for JL / Amazon later

      • aDifferentSimon says:

        Ah ha.
But Oh no! I left empty handed as the only vaguely suitable option was (I thought) one4all and of need more than 10% back to entertain those…

      • K says:

Really? I never knew that. So, is it just a matter of paying for JL cards with your Morrison’s gift cards, or you have to go to Customer Services to swap them?

They seem to be cracking down on buying gift cards using credit cards. I seem to come across more and more staff who say NO! Only cash can be used. I reminded them that cash is even worse, you cannot trace fraud. Eventually a manager said that they want to make sure people are not scammed. Have tried 3 stores now, and they all seem to make it harder, but in the end, they allowed it.

    • Paul says:

I’ve never seen Amazon in that branch. Sadly. I bought the last 2 JL ones that were there on Sun, but of course they may have re-stocked since – they do normally have them.

  • Louise K says:

I have 2 x IHG nights that need to be booked by 31/12/21.

Ideally, I want to use these for a trip to NYC next Christmas but the calendar will only let me book 50 weeks or so out.

Anyone managed to book outwith the calendar dates by calling the hotel?

    • Anna says:

I think the problems you might have is that you have to book on the IHG website and also hotels will want cash bookings at Christmas and probably not feel inclined to help people with free night certificates ( I don’t think they get paid much by IHG). I’d redeem them for something fabulous earlier in the year.

    • Blair says:

Suggest reposting on Thurs morning Louise asking for tips on good IHG free night uses. People will generously offer their favourite suggestions.
