We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Reposted as yesterday’s was very late & possibly overlooked.

Friend travelling to Paris on Eurostar on Thursday – they’ve been advised to be at St Pancras 2 hours before.
Is that early really necessary currently?

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Sounds like the sort of advice Heathrow give to their passengers, I even remember Virgin Trains East Coast advising ridiculously early arrival times in the ‘helpful’ emails they’d send out. I think an hour beforehand will be fine.

    • John says:

If everyone aims for only an hour before, the train will be delayed.

    • The Streets says:

Last week travelling to Amsterdam the queues were very long and two hours is about right. Yesterday coming back from Brussels 30 mins would’ve been sufficient

    • Red Flyer says:

I went at the Monday of half term recently and turned up 2 hours before and 15 mins later was sat at Pret with my coffee & sandwich at a table.

    • Michael C says:

We also went in half term, and St P was easy (remember you can board your train 20 mins before departure). However, friends went two days before us and found queues.

GdNord did indeed have queues, of about 1 hour.

  • Colin says:

Mornin all. If I want to close my Amex gold card is there a way to transfer my MR points to my green card? Thank you

    • Grant says:

Customer service will merge your MR accounts if you have separates ones for your Gold and Green cards. Alternatively someone, perhaps Harrier25, posted either yesterday or the day before about a workaround to do it yourself without having to contact Amex CS.

  • Robert says:

Any feedback on bendy plus MBNA horizon going to Seagulls? Since term change does it attract any fees?

  • Shaw West says:

NH hotels 40% OFF Black Friday SALE

  • Markpeterboro says:

Very niche tip here , but given that there are Hilton points collectors here it might be useful for someone :

If anyone is thinking of going to the Imagine Dragons gig that has just been announced for June 18th at Stadium MK , there are currently rooms available for 30,000 points at the Hilton Doubletree that is conveniently part of the stadium complex .

  • Markpeterboro says:

IHG have extended some free nights , check your accounts . My IHG credit card free night that was, until yesterday, showing as booking dates Mar 2021 to Mar 2022 has just been extended and now shows booking dates Mar 2021 to 31st Dec 2022 .
The the one that originally had to be used by Mar 2021 and was extended to 31st Dec 2021 has not been extended a second time.

    • Matt says:

Any reports on whether the ones which were extended to 31 Dec are behaving as book by rather than stay by?

    • Anna says:

Interesting – I wonder if that applies to ones which have already been used to make bookings?

    • Pid says:

Same extensions in my two accounts. Just a shame they have not extended the nines ending Dec 21 as struggling to use them unless I take a punt on a trip next year and hope it does not get cancelled.

    • Louise K says:

My two free nights are still book by 21/12/21. I earned these last year.

  • Cheshire Pete says:

Heads up, if you update the Amex APP which appeared this morning, it’s one of those ones where it forgets all your login info including Face ID settings, so make you’ve not forgotten your login details, which is so easy to do now when relying on such modern features!

Oh got an email I’ve trigged my 10,000 bonus Avios offer also! That reversed my mood after the APP update!

    • John says:

Why have you capitalised APP? Did you know that in China APP is pronounced ay-pee-pee?

      • mark2 says:

only in China? that is how I would pronounce it!

        • John says:

Yeah but it should be “app” (uncapitalised) as it is short for [mobile] application, or these days, another word for computer program(me).

      • Nigel W says:

Randomly, I always found it interesting (from my HK born father) that Amex out in HK is called ‘AE’.

  • Gareth says:

Just got a 10% off Samsung on plat, 1 day to use it…..

    • BuildBackBetter says:

Valid until 30th Nov. The days counter is broken.

    • Dominic says:

Shame the Galaxy Tab S8 won’t be released prior to that ending. I’d have utilised that.

    • BP says:

Always some good Samsung student deals that this will stack with if you have access. I think they do similar for BlueLight card etc.
