We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • cabal of rabid baboons says:

Amex seem to have caught up with their Morrisons backlog this morning

    • Hotelier says:

Only one out of two transactions posted. From way over two weeks. Checked with the Amex chat last week and they were claiming my local Morrison’s was excluded being an “outlet” shop…
May have to chase the other one but at least I get assurance I can use it again before expire tomorrow.

    • Dave says:

Still waiting from 26th Oct. 🙁

    • Tracy says:

4 Morrisons purchases on 26th October, 3 have posted cash back plus have received cash back from all purchases since then too….don’t know whats happened to the one that hasn’t posted 🤷‍♀️

  • Andrew H says:

Does anyone have the latest Monese codes please?

    • Craig says:

      – £50 gift card for £40: code SHOP50
      – £100 gift card for £80: code SHOP100
      – £200 gift card for £160: code SHOP200
      – £400 gift card for £320: code SHOP400

    • Andrew H says:

Found them – all sold out?

      • Youllnever says:

I wouldn’t be surprised – there was a limited quantity for all of the codes.

      • Aston100 says:

They’ve done them for 3 months in a row. Possibly more.
I recall they were doing something similar a couple of years ago too.
Might be useful to keep an eye out next month and have sufficient funds loaded in advance?

  • Rob says:

Given how many hotels are totally sold out for that date, inc Hampton Waterloo, I think you might have to take whatever you can get and be grateful.

  • David Aames says:

Is anyone still waiting to be credited clubcard points for this promo:
    https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2021/07/12/tesco-credit-card-hotels-com-offer/#commentsContent

I’m having a hard time getting my points. Hotels.com have confirmed the stays were completed over 16 weeks ago

    • Si says:

I only took a punt on 4 nights but no CC points received yet.

Spoke to the credit card CS number in T&Cs they said to contact if any issues but they knew nothing about it and said to contact Hotels.com. I haven’t got around to that yet.

      • David Aames says:

They told me the same. So I contacted hotels.com, they have given me the reward night stamps and confirmed the stays were completed but they can’t give Clubcard points, that’s down to Tesco. I got in touch with Tesco again, gave them my transaction ID’s for each night completed but haven’t heard anything back.

  • Reney says:

Has anyone closed their Monese account and tried to open a new one? The app seems to be sending me in circles.

  • NP says:

Received Virgin Atlantic CC statement over the weekend and “You have qualified for a credit card reward voucher” for 20k spend is now showing on the VA website. Does not show this anywhere on the CC statement and did not get an email to notify.

If I try to upgrade to the paid Reward+ card am I eligible for another reward voucher straightaway?

    • Anna says:

Apparently it shows in your Flying Club account and you have to call to use it.
I don’t think you can upgrade to the VA card in the same way you can the BAPP.

    • Sandgrounder says:

I think officially you have to close your VA card and wait 6 months to open another one? Unless things have changed?
I managed to get both at once though tbh.

      • Reney says:

I think the other route is apply, get rejected then write to explain you wanted to upgrade.

      • Roy says:

You do need to close the card and open a new one, but you don’t need to wait six months. Your new application may be automatically declined on the basis you’ve had a card in the last six months, but you can appeal and it should be allowed.

That said, it might go through a lot more smoothly than that. They can put a note on the account saying that you are closing due to wanting to upgrade, and if customer services are on the ball it might get approved first time. Make sure you’ve received the e-mail confirmation that the old account has been closed before you submit the new application.

  • xcalx says:

Apologies for another Covid test question, I have searched online but the more I read the more confused I get.
I need the following test for entry to Barbados within 3 days of arrival.

“The specimen taken must be a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab (or both) taken by a healthcare provider”
Each company I look at seems to describe the tests differently. Are the RT Covid PCR in person tests and the Boots PCR tests acceptable? Neither describe them as nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab tests

Do I need the negative test to board flight in MAN which is nearly 24 hours before the LHR-BGI flight, asking as this cuts the 3 day rule down by a day.

    Thanks.

    • blenz101 says:

Yes, basically the sample needs to be taken from your nose or back of your throat. All PCR tests are taken in this way, sometimes just the nose, sometimes both.

Sounds like you have either separate tickets or have you booked a stopover. Either way they can do the document check at LHR if needed rather than MAN.

      • xcalx says:

        Thank you.
It’s a stopover. We would have needed to be at MAN very early to catch the 6 AM flight to LHR for a same day connection so decided to go down the day before.

I was looking to book the Barbados Govs UK recommended site who do a 3 hour test, then in tiny writing this appears *in exceptional circumstances this could take up to 48hrs, which led me to the do I need the result at MAN to board.

The same site also shows * Please note that the following will NOT be accepted: Nasal swab samples.
I thought the nasopharyngeal that they referrred to was a nasal swab.
