We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Andrew H says:

How active do you have to be (estimated) to get Monese offers?

    I’ve just put a tenner in there as I wasn’t getting anything…

    • Paul says:

everyone is eligible I believe. You have to top up your account with enough cash to cover the deal before applying the promo code

      • Andrew H says:

Thank you – are the codes still working?

        • Craig says:

They were last night, I’ve never used my Monese account for anything other than the gift card offers. £1200 in the last 2 years.

          • Aston100 says:

            You legend Craig!
But I’m sure someone will be along soon to chastise you for some perceived act of immorality.

        • Paul says:

I’m not sure. I don’t know how you can tell this either without having topped up account and then try the code. They come round pretty regularly so worst case you just have £40 sitting in your account for a few months

    • NP says:

I made an account last night and redeemed the offer immediately. So it seems no activity is fine!

      • DI says:

Other than in headforpoints chat thread, how are these offers normally communicated? I have a monese account, l used the offers, but I did not see any monese emails or anything like that.

  • Kevin says:

Need to find a cheapest PCR test next week for departure purpose. Does anyone know the actual discounted cost (with BA code) for Collinson, Express Test and Randox. They will not allow me to see the final cost without key in all the details.

  • Adam says:

Sorry if I’ve missed a post but is there any word on IHG extending the Free Credit Card Night Stay at all? I have two that expire end of this year and availability for any decent IHG hotel in London is pretty poor (other than HI or HIE). Anybody had any luck in negotiating another extension?

    • Grant says:

IIRC the expiry date on the voucher is ‘book by’ not ‘stay by’

      • Adam says:

Thanks Grant, yes you’re right it does say book by, just getting confused with the ‘must be redeemed within 12 months from date of issue’ which is a little all over the place due to Covid and extensions that IHG have already applied.

    • The Streets says:

Just had a couple of nights in the intercontinental Amsterdam which I can 100% recommend

      • Phil W says:

Lovely hotel. We got a nice riverside room with our free night vouchers in 2019.

    • Benilyn says:

V unlikely / impossible you can negotiate extension yourself. They may extend them, there was chat about it here and on flyer talk about an extension potentially

  • Britbronco says:

Harrier25, can you give any further guidance on how to merge MR accounts without bothering Amex CS?

    • Harrier25 says:

If you have two cards sat in separate accounts. Unlink the card from the account you don’t want and then link it to the account you want to keep. Sometimes you have to wait up to a month to be able to link cards to your master account, but if you keep trying once a week it will link in the end. It’s as simple as that.

      • Britbronco says:

My MR card and my Plat card are both on the same online card services account already (same log in), but the MR are in separate pots. As far as I can see, unlinking and linking is just related to the online services, not MR accounts?

        • Harrier25 says:

Sorry, I don’t understand. If they are linked to the same account then the total MR balance should be reflected on both card accounts. That’s how it is with my two cards on the same account, one being Preferred Rewards Gold the other being Green.

        • Sam G says:

ask via chat, takes a couple of days

        • VerdantBacon says:

Does having two MR pots but under one login, give you two 90k refer caps? Or just one?

          • Rui N. says:

Have no idea sorry, don’t do enough refs to even be close to the yearly limits.

          • Aston100 says:

Well, I’ve had more than 90k MR combined across my Plat and my Gold cards, under the same account but with separate pots.
So I suppose the answer is yes, at least in my case anyway.

          • Aston100 says:

*more than 90k MR from referrals.

          • VerdantBacon says:

Interesting, thanks Aston, seems like a strong upside to having two accounts

          • Harrier25 says:

Until you want to close one account….

  • hypuk says:

Do airlines usually run any deals on Black Friday? I’m planning to buy some tickets for xmas travel on Turkish Airlines and wondering whether it is worth waiting for Black Friday.

    • Graham C says:

There’s usually sales but whether they will be any good is a different matter.

    • AJA says:

No idea if Turkish Airlines even participates in Black Friday. I think the best course of action is to leave it as late as you are comfortable with and then buy the tickets for the dates you want for the price on the day you buy. You run the risk of having your preferred flights sold out if you wait for a sale particularly if it is for dates close to Xmas . Besides the fares on offer on a sale are often not that much different to those 6 weeks out and fares tend to increase in price the closer to the date of travel.

  • Ali M says:

    hey there.
flying from Manchester. What would be the cheapest PCR in Manchester – dont mind collecting / drive through. Google search yields the Randox 43 to be the cheapest still

  • Chrism20 says:

The Kimpton Blythswood restaurant has now changed name and is called iasg and is now fish focused.

Menu is on the hotel website.

  • TOBIAS L says:

Flying back to UK from Spain in 48h and I believe I need a Day 2 Antigen test with a code for the PLF.

Not fussed about actually taking it or getting results – what’s the cheapest but most reliable one for the PLF code?

On a side note, flying from US to UK in a couple of weeks. Same Day 2 Antigen requirement I presume – can I use the same vendor as well?

    Thanks.

    • Sandgrounder says:

ct24.co.uk offer a PCR test for £1 in Peterborough. Haven’t used them, but they have appointments available. They state they will issue the code after booking. As always, DYOR.

      • TOBIAS L says:

Thanks. Was reading the exact wording…apparently I just need to “do a lateral flow test”, not submit results. Looking at the vendors they’re up to the usual…low prices but to lure you into the website and then charge £60 for a Day 2 test!

Whats the rationale behind not being able to use the NHS rapid tests? I can book the £1 one, and then just do the NHS test and submit if positive. How is that against the law?
