      Step one would be to make sure you realise you need to spend more than £30 per shop as it requires £30 ex vat spend

  Sunday nightmare question:

  Brother in law (not a very good points collector) needs 37k Virgin points to book a specific redemption. He has 85k Avios in his BAEC, so I’m wondering if there’s any sneaky way to turn some of these into virgin points?

  I.e BAEC to Nectar to ??? to Virgin? Any help greatly appreciated!

    Basically, no.

    Technically, Avois to Nectar. Then use the equivalent cash value of your nectar points to buy Virgin miles, and use those nectar points to buy shopping.

    He could use the Virgin points as part payment for a cash ticket, rather than an out and out redemption, which may help him get the flight he wanted. The value per point is poor though.

      Or if he really wants to use the points offsetting the cost of the trip he could use the Avios towards any hotel or car hire costs again freeing up cash to put towards the VS ticket.

    Only way I could think of would be to convert the VS points into Hilton and then from Hilton out to Avios. VS covert at 2:3. 10k Hilton is 1k Avios. The maths is obviously not great. The transfer could take some time so the redemption may not be around when he comes to book.

    Buying the points could well be better assuming he will find a future use for the BAEC Avios.

    Has he flown Virgin in the last 6 months? If yes, he could try and boost his miles by calling them. I needed some urgently so got about 8,500 for about £85 as opposed to paying around £120 using the buy points option. There is no sale or promo at the moment. Does he have any Amex points he could transfer to Virgin?

  @ChrisC mentioned late last night that there is case law on EC261 cases where there are multiple causes of delay for the same flight. If ChrisC or anyone else has a link to this I would love to read it. Also can anyone point me to a general repository of EC261 case law?

    Some of the main casss are in the Eu261 wiki page.

    Others in the Eu261 thread on the BA flyer talk board.

    You might want to post your flight details there as there are some real EU261 experts on that board who will be able to comment further.

    But in general parsing down a delay into who/ what caused what delay is accepted practice.

  Morning all! Off to Kimpton St Honoré in Paris on Thursday for a few nights courtesy of the 40k rate an eagle-eyed contributor posted here a while back. First time in Paris, and will be travelling with the wife and an 18 month old.

  Just wondering if anyone has been as it’s fairly recently opened, or any tips/general advice for a few days in Paris?

    Hope you really enjoy your visit! Paris is a lovely city for walking if the weather is dry, with a number of parks and gardens, some with playgrounds. Many of the museums and tourist spots have a lot of green space, or the river, nearby.

    You might also want to consider taking a bus or two. They may be easier with a toddler than the metro or RER. You can actually see a lot of Paris from a few well-chosen bus routes, so the possible extra time they take isn’t wasted. The area around the Kimpton and the Opera is particularly well served by buses to almost anywhere in the city.

    Bear in mind that Paris is fairly strict about wearing masks inside and on public transport, and that proof of vaccination/negative tests are required for your hotel as well as museums, cafes etc.

  In your case if I recall you left 45 mins late which was within the airlines control. The storm which caused your diversion was certainly not and was the overriding cause of your diversion / late arrival.

  You can of course test this in court but it isn’t as though you left so late as to make your late arrival inevitable with weather a compounding factor. It is your money to gamble if you want to try and take them to court to prove the ultimate delay was down to the airline.

  Also you would do well to seek advice on how case law now applies in the UK. Whilst the treaties and acts have been copied into UK law under UK261 I’ve no idea what weight would be applied to historic rulings from foreign courts on the interpretation of those same laws by the UK currently.

    Historic rulings apply. These were all retained. However any rulings on historic EU cases after Brexit are not binding. For example, if a case at ECJ started in 2019 and finished this year, it wouldn’t be binding. I believe there is also a provision that UK judges may consult it in order to create domestic case law.
