We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know what happens when a MR points transfer, to,an airline partner, gets rejected.
Set up a transfer to Emirates Today from a new account, and it’s normally instant.
Transfer on Amex account says rejected by participant.

    • Rob says:

Emirates has a problem with Amex if you have linked a different Membership Rewards to the same Emirates account in the past. Potentially the Emirates forum on Flyertalk has a way around it.

      • Yuff says:

It was the same account but it wouldn’t let me link the account initially.
Do the points stay in the ether 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • Benilyn says:

You need to message Emirates on their chat and ask them to delink your account with Amex, can take a few days and then ask again on chat to confirm it’s delinked.
At the same time ask Amex to delink the account (should be immediate) over chat.
Then you should be good to go. Done it a few times.
I did lose some, never bothered to chase them, they never arrived

Is there some event happening in london on the weekend of the 26th, literally every premier inn is sold out including many other brands? Or has London just become that busy with tourists.

    • Worksop Dave says:

Black Friday weekend possibly. Hotels in Manchester also seem to be quite expensive too.

Might be something else though rather than people becoming obsessed with this American garbage

      Xmas lights…

    • Delbert says:

We’ve a room booked for an overnight weekend stay at Hilton Gateshead in January and glad I booked up fully flex a few weeks back as already asking price has bumped up £50.

There’s an event happening that weekend very close to the hotel and I was lucky enough to get in there early. Supply and demand, as always.

    • Sam G says:

It just seems incredibly busy at the weekends up to Xmas, 18th December I booked a Premier Inn for a v reasonable price a while back, now as you say they are literally all sold out !

    • Dave says:

Think everyone in the UK is doing weekend breaks in London at the moment! Busier than pre-covid times at the weekends currently

    • Andrew says:

Be mindful that it’s £30 excluding shipping, handling and *VAT*, so aim for £36 minimum.

  • Benilyn says:

I used to use Google Voice before it closed down to make calls abroad, and to use when abroad to make calls. What do people use for VOIP? I scarcely make calls but would like cheap rates to UAE, Maldives (to speak to resort).

Best points deals/stacking opportunities for rail travel? Got a few trips to book but can only find 1% CB or 2 nectar points/£1

  • Jamie says:

one for the EU261 experts, maybe a long shot.

BA flight to JFK today. Took off 45 mins late due to engineering issues. This delay meant we hit the start of a storm at JFK and are being diverted to Boston. Will definitely be more than 4 hours late now. If it weren’t for engineering issues we’d have landed on time.

    Any chance of compensation?

    • AJA says:

Hmm. I think you might have a battle on your hands. The ultimate delay and diversion was due to bad weather which is out of the control of BA. And the diversion is for safety reasons. I am not sure I would put in a claim. Presumably BA is arranging to get you to JFK?

    • Mouse says:

BA will definitely tell you to foxtrot oscar. If you can show that a flight departing around the same time as your scheduled departure was able to land at JFK then you have a chance in CEDR/MCOL. I doubt there is any case law on this so it would be down to the mood of the judge/arbitrator on the day and how convincingly you present your case.

      • meta says:

This is different to the case on page 1. Only if you can prove that all other flights weren’t being diverted and landed on time at JFK! However, duty of care applies – F&B, transport to JFK at the earliest opportunity, night(s) in a hotel if needed, two phone calls. If BA is not helping with this, then you can arrange it yourself and claim later. Make sure to record (just say that you will record the conversation for claiming purposes) the conversation or if they are unwilling take a pen and paper or use note app and make contemporaneous notes as they are responding.

      • ChrisC says:

There is case law on this.

The delay can and will be analysed down to the parts that are airline causes and those that aren’t.

Any delay attributed to airline fault will be deducted from the total delay and any compensation will then be based on that figure.

  • Harris says:

If you fly book through virgin and get a klm business class ticket to London stopping over in Amsterdam for 4 hours, do you get use of a lounge? Which one?

    • Blair says:

Yes, the KLM Crown lounge. Either the Schengen or non-Schengen lounge depending where you are flying onwards to
