We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Barbs says:

We have flights booked with a companion voucher (and there are currently no more reward seats available on these flights). Can the non-voucher holder fly alone, if the voucher holder has tested positive and is isolating? Thanks

    • Rob says:

Would be fine, but makes no sense – I reckon the call centre could untangle it to cancel the voucher holders flight and release the taxes from the 2nd person.

    • ChrisC says:

According to ther T&Cs the companion is suppsed to travel with the voucher holder.

Best to call BA (yes I know….) to regularise the booking if only to get the taxes, fees and surcharge back.

  • Andy says:

Prior to the pandemic BA added LGW – Antalya. Is there any chance this will be resurrected moving forward (even if from LHR) ?

    • Blenz101 says:

Extremely unlikely to ever be a LHR route. If travel gets back to pre-pandemic levels then I guess the business case would still apply and the new lo-cost BA could try it out.

    • Richie says:

Antalya seems to have become quite a popular destination, worth kerping an eye on BA Euroflyer.

  • ChrisM says:

Anyone trying to do a travel declaration for Cayman Islands? The software was updated overnight to reflect the dropping of quarantine for verifiable vaccinated travellers. I can upload my QR code, but it just keeps saying “technical problems and try again later”. I can see a frustrating day ahead. Anyway it’s a step nearer, even being allowed to apply………

    • Anna says:

We’ve booked to go next summer and hopefully all the technical issues will be sorted by then! When are you going (and how)?
Some Americans I’m in touch with have been successful in contacting Travel Cayman by phone and email to resolve issues with the application process, I presume contact details are on their website.
Let us know how you get on. Also are you taking your own LFTs? This is another thing that’s got us all baffled as you need to test every few days but there are not details of how exactly this is going to work!

      • ChrisM says:

We’re going in a month and have a “close family tie” and quarantine package booked, so we were reasonably sure we would be permitted to travel under phase 3, but with the phase 4 after Nov 20th, it’s even more likely that we can go. We can hopefully cancel the quarantine, which is academic as we will be using the booked hotel accommodation anyway. With increased tourism and also kids returning from school and Uni for Christmas, we are hoping our flight will not be changed again (has changed by a day already). Going direct with BA as couldn’t be bothered with extra stress of transiting via USA. We plan taking boxes and boxes of LFTs, we want to be forewarned if anything developing, also a bit anxious about ~ 12hr flight down the back as they were the only seats we could get. Hoping we will be able to tolerate FFP2 masks for flight.

        • Anna says:

Well the beaches should be lovely and quiet, at least to begin with!
I haven’t seen anything about BA re-starting the regular route, they’ve just been doing a fortnightly repatriation flight for the past year with economy seats only (probably why that’s all you could get) but obviously they are still obliged to get you there if they do cancel.
Looks like you’ve struck lucky in just missing the quarantine!

          • Anna says:

Also, it will only be 12 hours if you stop at NAS which they haven’t been doing during the pandemic (separate flights at the moment). I don’t know if this is going to cause another problem with the schedule as most pax only go as far as NAS in normal times and entry requirements for the Bahamas may well be different. So the Cayman authorities might not be happy with a plane of mixed passengers, some oh whom may not be required to be vaxxed/tested, but who knows?

          • Anna says:

Though looks like they are back to the full route now so it will be 12 hours 😬

  • Paul says:

Have we learned yet how and when the bonus OnBusiness points are received from BA spend on the BA Accelerate Business card?

  • John says:

Added a supp to the platinum re the 5000 points bonus – nothing posted.
Went on chat to be told can take 90 days – not looking to keep card that long !

    • Mr(s) Entitled says:

90 days seems to be approaching the norm now (I’m on about 60) and I’m not overly confident that it won’t extend beyond 90 with the chasing.

Just need to decide what 5,000 MR are worth to you vs paying £50 pcm for the card. Might be just as easy to save the £50 and buy your preferred redemption instead.

    • Steven says:

Getting the impression this is a deliberate tactic now to discourage the quick churn of cards.

      • Anna says:

+1, been told 90 days on gold but no fee for first year so not that much of an issue, plus I tend to hold on to them for the bonus 10k points after 12 months.

      • BuildBackBetter says:

        That’s good.

  • Rachel Robinson says:

Can I still use Manage My Booking with BA after the date has passed for a canceled flight?

  • John says:

Anyone had any dealing with a company called MyleFly? They offer to buy airline points for cash, however the seem to want a lot of personal information up front, including access details to frequent flyer accounts. The details they ask for are as follows:

    1. Verify of your airline account – Screen shots showing the AMOUNT OF MILES, its EXPIRATION and your NAME.

    2. Verify yourself – Link to an active SOCIAL PROFILE (Linkedin/Facebook/Instagram).

    3. Have a quick way to reach you and pay – Your MOBILE NUMBER, COUNTRY and PAYPAL EMAIL.

And only then do they do the following:

    • We pay your Paypal account.. Please note that Paypal charges you a commission.

    • You then send us your airline access details.

    • We then look for demand for an award ticket/s and book it from your account. If we get to use more miles than the pre-purchased miles we will of course pay for them accordingly.

    • After we book the ticket/s and flight/s are flown you can change your account password.

It seems very suspicious to me and almost certainly once the airline discovers the activity it will close my account down for breach of terms. Equally the payment is very low per mile they use.

    • ChrisC says:

      Just don’t do it!

You’ve even said it yourself in your last paragraph the reasons for not doing it.

    • AJA says:

Don’t touch with a barge pole!. Sounds like a perfect way to get your FF account suspended if you have any points left after they’ve used them all to book flight(s) and have your identity stolen as well.

      • ChrisC says:

They could also cancel all your other flights as well and you would have zero comeback because you willingly gave them access to your account and bookings.

    • Lady London says:

      Are you nuts?⅝

    • John says:

I’d only do it if I had no way to use the miles (perhaps due to personal circumstances) and didn’t care if the account was banned.

However I don’t use social media networks, so they may refuse me anyway.

    • Can says:

It’s a high risk bet, but some seem to like it: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/mylefly.com

This kind of a thing can only exist if they serve a handful of customers. The moment it is flagged, you’ll be banned.

I’d say try, and tell us what happened for our amusement.

    • Js says:

Doesnt have to be suspicious, but risky as you dont know whot it is.
If they offer a high price then stay away

  • vlcnc says:

Ok subsequent to my post on yesterday’s chat thread ITA Volare status match actually came through today from the web form I did on the member area. Matched BA Gold to ITA Volare Executive. Just sent a screenshot of the card from the BA app. Annoyingly I’d sent them an email as well, as other people I knew had emailed after me and got it sooner. Oh well. Interesting to see more about the programme in due course, especially as someone with an italian partner who flies to Italy regularly to visit family.

    • John says:

When does the ITA match period expire?
Currently BA Silver but will make Gold in ate February 2022. Hoping to wait until then to match to BA Gold

      Thanks
