We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Amex are adamant that the £55 refunded for the £250 charged for a August (£195) BAP card is the pro rata refund for the card that was cancelled at the begining of October.
2 overseas agents 1 Brighton agent and a “supervisor” have all said the account is now closed and no further refunds will be issued. mrsxcalx had the card just short of 2 months.

    • Froggee says:

Do your own calculation and include it in a complaint. They’ll fix it.

      • BJ says:

I’d try another call first, within UK office hours and purpose of call is “close account”, put in details for an active card. Tell them you want to cancel X because you did not get a refund for Y.

Just got my Virgin Silver clubhouse pass via email !!

    Reading comprehension test:
A valid corona passport documents that you have either been vaccinated or previously infected within the last 6 months or that you can document a negative COVID-19 test taken within the last 96 hours (PCR) or 72 hours (rapid antigen).

    vs

There are three possible ways to get a valid corona passport in the corona passport app:

Negative test: Negative PCR test is valid maximum 96 hours from the time the test was performed. Negative antigen test is valid maximum 72 hours from the time the test was performed.

Immunity: A positive result of a PCR test lasting a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 6 months old from the time the test was performed.

Completed vaccination: A vaccination course with two doses is considered complete immediately after it final dose. A vaccination course with one dose is considered for 14 days after this single dose. An initiated vaccination course also gives you a valid corona passport. A vaccination course against COVID-19 is considered to have started at least 14 days and at most 42 days after the first dose.

The first is the FCDO’s shortened version, which to me, reads as though your vaccination must have been within 6 months. The second is from the Danish authorities. I’m reading it that it doesn’t matter when my vaccine was given, as long as it was >14 days ago (for AZ)

Nothing on their site yet about whether they will accept the NHS app for use as a pass. (For context, Denmark have re-introduced the use of Covid passes for restaurants, clubs etc etc)

    • TGLoyalty says:

NHS app is now an approved as an equivalent EU app so as long as remark will accept that they’ll accept the nhs one.

    • Sandgrounder says:

I don’t think Denmark have introduced a vaccine expiry date yet, the should now be able to scan the NHS app no problem. As long as everyone has updated their software.

    • Paasan69 says:

Not an issue. I used to show my NHS pass around in Copenhagen when they required it earlier this year. Always accepted, sometimes with an ID. Never scanned.

  • N says:

Anyone have any experience of the Marriott suite at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai?

  • Simon L says:

Can you transfer virgin flying club points to someone else’s account ? If so is there a charge for this

    • Amy C says:

      Yes and yes I believe.

    • Rob says:

Only for a ludicrous fee. Not worth it. Download Virgin Red and blow any small balance on there.

    • AL says:

Remember that VS agents are given quite a lot of flexibility when it comes to booking – e.g. you can pool points from multiple accounts for reward bookings if you have sufficient from one account for each sector. Or, yeah, billions of sausage rolls at Greggs…

  • BP says:

HSBC have charged me the annual fee for renewal of the Premier World Elite MasterCard. I thought the fee was being waived?

    • Simon says:

Did you get an email back in April? Mine has definitely been waived until Sep 22. Worth giving them a shout on chat…

    • BJ says:

Last time I saw comments on this, I think people were raiding formal complaints and it was getting fixed for them IIRC.

      • TGLoyalty says:

No need for a formal complaint a phone was enough.

        • Polly says:

But keep an eye out, as my fee was reapplied x 3 times, so had to have it blocked formally. Seems ok now.

  • Pauline says:

Tried to subscribe to seatspy on offer but am in Maldives and auto changed subscription to dollars despite entering Uk base. Don’t want to have to pay FX fees on cc so appears no option but to cancel. Are there any other offers?

  • Aston100 says:

Hi, don’t currently have a car.
Am trying to find an alternative to the train for getting from the West Midlands to Heathrow.
    Coach is a no no.
Mini Cab is quoting £150 to £200.
Can’t find any reasonably priced one way car hires, but I might be doing it wrong.

Any suggestions please? there must be some one way car hire I’ve overlooked? else a train from Birmingham International (to Euston) or Solihull Station (Chiltern Line to Marylebone) the night before (with a hotel) will be my default.

    Thanks.

    • Rob says:

      One ways at driveme.co.uk?

      • Tom says:

        Assuming you mean driiveme.co.uk 😁
I really wish driveme.co.uk did do one way rentals… now that would be fun!

    • Sam G says:

Chiltern railways solihull to somewhere like Gerrards Cross or Northolt Park and then uber / bolt / Freenow/ local minicab from there might work ? Might need to change en route, if you do then Princes Risborough or Haddenham & Thame Parkway are better as it’ll be the same platform – High Wycombe will potentially involve a footbridge so not ideal if you’ve luggage

    • elguiri says:

      BHX to LHR by plane?

      • TGLoyalty says:

Don’t think such a flight exists unless you’re a foreign government official or a PL football team 🙂

    • Nick Burch says:

Cross Country trains from Birmingham International to Oxford, 5 minute walk, then the lovely Airline coach to Heathrow? Airline coach is a lot nicer than National Express, and should get you to T5 in just over an hour
