We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Flying with a baby in BA J
    1) the 777 (row 1-4 are J) shows only one baby bassinet in 4E – is that really the case? (Non CS, so 2-4-2 ying yang). How have people found the middle seats (E/F) with a baby? Can D & G see us?
    2) in Club Suites only has bassinets in 8K/19A/19K. Me and wife and baby (8 months) travelling, do you think 8K/8F or 8K/9K would be better.
Never flown BA J (or much J at all 😇)

    • TicknBash says:

Pre Covid, the CS at check in desk mentioned that she would ‘block’ the D&G seats for us.
I suppose it was for our benefit as much as other passengers as well.

Tip is to try and feed the baby on take off / landing to help with the pressure.

    • Benilyn says:

Also forgot to ask, if I have a baby (<1Y) on the ticket, and I booked the bassinet seat for them + the adult, do I need to request the bassinet still (I don't see an option and do not want to call given wait times) or its automatically requested?

      • Nadeshka says:

There should be some loaded automatically and its first come first served or they prioritise younger babies they say. So ask as soon as you board.
Don’t rely on it though, on one of our flights they failed to load *any* and I saw several babies on board. Felt especially bad for those flying in economy with a baby on their lap for 10hours. In J I didn’t find it super necessary and actually felt they were too far away for my liking when I was in the seat.

    • Mirp says:

Personally I would get the bassinet just to have somewhere to put the baby to sleep. Even in J seats you may not want to always have the baby on you.

      • elguiri says:

+1 If they do sleep it is a godsend to have your lap free to eat properly, get up etc. Note that in turbulence they will ask you to take your baby onto your lap until seatbelt sign goes off.

Anyone know a randox code for a BA flight BATRAVEL15 is not working.

Also on the Randox form that asks for Flight number do I put the internal MAN-LHR number or the LHR-BGI number and do I need to have the PCR test cert for the MAN check in as the flight to BGI is the next day. Thanks

PAW experts! I just got a PAW account. Any tips/tricks on how best to utilise it? Thank you!

    • Sam G says:

Not sure I’m an expert but few things I’ve picked up are keep an eye on it – offers come and go. There has been a Tesco one for certain stores this week for 25x WowPoints per £ spent on a linked card in store!

I’ve got a sainsbury and a M&S reloadable card as I do spend a bit in those stores usually

You can get 1 x Wowpoint on e-mastercards and then I use those for things like utilities online – paid for with my HSBC World Elite so getting 1 Avios per £1 there and then 1 wow point on the gift card

      • Aston100 says:

Is it easy to cash out?

        • Andrew says:

They process BACS transfers in batches, so it depends where you are on the cycle. Sometimes 2 days, sometimes a week.

Can always load your WOW instantly to some gift cards too.

Just try and avoid triggering more than £1,000 in rebate in a single transaction. Four of us flying Upper to LAX, whilst there was a 12.5% promotion, resulted in questions being asked about the reason for the trip and how it was paid for. I’d paid for all of us using my personal card, so was able to evidence that. Big pharma then refunded me…

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Anyone managed to buy a gift card at Hyatt hotels and used the Amex offer?

    • Paul Pogba says:

I rang Hayes to ask if they sold them and they said no, it’s the only branch on the Amex list I’m willing to drive to so I didn’t get any further than that.

  • Max H says:

    2 questions fellow HfP’ers!

    1) The Platinum £100 travel credit back on £400 – if done in 2x£300 transactions, will this trigger?
    2) For the FHR 3for2, where would you recommend in Bangkok around Christmas?

  • Tom says:

My brothers City Flyer flight ZRH-LCY was cancelled recently due to a shortage of crew in London.

Interestingly, BA have offered him a choice of a) the standard applicable EU comp (€250); b) 25,000 Avios (which he doesn’t collect); or c) a FTV to the value of €400, valid until September 23 and redeemable in stages against smaller transactions if necessary.

The voucher seems surprisingly generous and with an abundance of future travel plans he’s more than happy to accept it.

I’ve got a trip lined up with QR in business and bough the new lite fare without lounge access (P fare)

On the return leg I’ve got an 8hr layover in DOH and was hoping to buy lounge access in Al Safwa to rest up.

Does anyone know if this is possible as internet is leading me to believe I won’t even be able to buy access due to fare bucket.

FYI – I’m BA Gold but heard this doesn’t mean much for Qatar lounges in DOH

    Any insight appreciated!

    • WearyTraveller says:

With BA Gold you will have access to Qatar Airways First Class Lounge which is a dedicated lounge they have for oneworld Emerald status holders. This is not to be mistaken with Al Safwa First Lounge which is a lot better but is only accessible if you have status with Qatar specifically or if travelling first class with them. I personally haven’t been to QR First Class Lounge before but from what I’ve read it’s decent – but nowhere near as good as Al Satwa. You should be able to pay to access Al Satwa if you want though.

      • Tim says:

I did. It asks for your booking reference but takes you to manage my booking page and from there I cannot see anywhere to buy lounge access.

I might call QR in advance of the flight..

  • Joe says:

Travelled to Frankfurt on one of the A380 flights today in CE.
No fewer than 5 pilots and 22 cabin crew on board!
A few BA staff in the First cabin and upper deck (upper deck there was no passengers seated but one of the crew took me for a walk through).
It was also good to see that the drinks are now self service again in the Galleries Club lounges.
