We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just had an e-Mail survey from Curve, the first question was “How would you feel if you didn’t have Curve any longer?”

LOL. Are they about to call it quits on the card?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Surely you need to understand what customers would do without your product to understand how good the proposition actually is?

    • Harrier25 says:

That question is asked in all their surveys and I think they’ll get a lot more selecting the ‘wouldn’t miss’ option this time round!

    • Ryanfozzie says:

Received the same and the questions did make me laugh – felt to me like they are thinking of shutting up shop!

I told them I didn’t really care for the product anymore…

      • Rui N. says:

I told them I was flabbergastered that I lost my favourite credit card just because I used it with Curve, and that I couldn’t understand why that was the case nor why Curve couldn’t help me.

        • John says:

I agree and can’t see them having a future as they currently stand. Who would use a product that could put you in breach of the underlying card’s T&C’s, then if something goes wrong, blame someone else?

          • Melonfarmer says:

I think we’re Curve’s distant past. Every person & their dog is after BNPL.

OT – I’ve got a Virgin Balloon Flight voucher that expires in a few weeks. No available dates that suit me (and it’s a weekday morning flight).

Virgin are refusing to exchange for a gift voucher or refund as I don’t meet the criteria of having two flights cancelled (we have only had 1 cancelled).

FYI this is what is involved in a flight cancellation on the day:
    – Mr and the Mrs booking the day off
    – Staying awake until 11pm (not hard) to receive a phone call from the pilot that provides the launch site details and arrival time. Waking up at 4am (like a zombie) to drive to the launch site in the sticks. Wait for an hour in the cold on the field, all excited that you’re going on a balloon! . . . . To be told that the flight is cancelled due to the wind direction being a bit off.

Completely fine with being cancelled as I understand safety first, but Virgin will only refund/exchange if you get cancelled twice. Not willing to go through that again and obv I can’t do the dates over the next month or so until it expires.

Does anyone have any experience with trying to get an exchange/refund from them? Any tips?

    • Colin MacKinnon says:

Use a website like XCweather to check the forecast.

(there are lots of forecast storms coming in off the Atlantic this time of year!)

Book for the middle of one of them.

At the moment, in central Scotland, next Wednesday looks good for a cancellation!

It will be cancelled. (and sunrise is now 8am-ish – so no flying before then, anyway!)

      Then look at refund.

    • Jody says:

We had 3 cancellations before finally getting to fly this summer. It’s pretty easy to look at the weather and make a good estimate of days that flights will be cancelled.

    • Christina says:

Their business model relies on making money from people who never get to use the voucher / experience. Have a look at online reviews for hundreds more stories exactly like yours.
Try for a charge back if you are not out of time.

  • Boi says:

how do i use the virgin upgrade voucher from beardy credit card? I have been trying to call but on hold forever.

Also, does there need to be reward availability in next cabin? Trying t find some creative way of using them as I have 2.

    • Sean says:

Need to phone and for there to be reward availability in the cabin you want. (eg if want upper and to pay premium points then need availability in upper).

  • YC says:

Any issue with signing up with seatspy in usd?

  • MinR says:

10% UberEats appeared early this am on my Platinum Amex. Not on supp. nor BAPP cards.

  • Alex says:

Does the NHS Morrisons discount work on gift cards?

    • Andrew says:

      Which one?

The 10% at the till is only off goods and ignores gift cards. The 10% NHS PAW rebate is on the full bill.

So go into Morrison’s and buy a £250 Amazon Gift Card and a £7 24 pack of Irn-Bru, and your card will be charged £256.30. You’ll then get an NHS PAW rebate of £25.63

If you’re PAWed up, you’re better off with the 25% rebate at Tesco at the moment.

      • Hulk says:

Andrew, are you using the Tesco offer and is it tracking correctly?

        • Andrew says:

I’m going tomorrow night. Will be using a card that’s never been linked to any other card linked rebate service.

    • Phil W says:

Something similarNo the NHS Morrisons discount doesn’t work on gift cards. My wife has tested it.

    • TGLoyalty says:

      No

It’s basically the employee discount so it’s been coded correctly. I know there’s no saving on gift cards and spirits (probably all booze in Scotland) and I’m sure all the other usual exclusions like tobacco, baby milk etc are applied correctly.

  • xcalx says:

@Rob Could you email me the workaround? to sign up for the seatspy 12 month offer. I want to use my usual email that I did use a while back for the 14 day trial.

    • xcalx says:

It’s OK Rob When I clicked on the payment page the price reduced to £55.93, All done

  • Jan de W says:

Does BA LHR-Sofia still earn 80 tier points each way? How can I see how many TP I will earn when booking? As BA only have one flight per week (Sunday), is it workable to fly out and back the same day for a TP run (dep. 07.25 arr SOF 12.35; dep SOF 13.40 arr. LHR 15.15)?
