We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Data point: platinum card arrived Monday, chat agent added restaurant offered today, appeared instantly

  • Benilyn says:

Can anyone use their magic powers to find the email address for Sheraton Mall of the Emirates Hotel Dubai please? mallofemirates@sheraton.com does not work, and the previous General Manager has left.

  • ChrisC says:

Gatwick, Edinburgh and Belfast airports plus Wizz have written to Grant Shapps saying slot waivers should end for the 2022 summer season.

Does anyone know if you cancel Amex Preferred Rewards Gold Card does it automatically cancel your Priority Pass if you haven’t used them or is that valid for a year??

    • Harrier25 says:

      Yes.

      • Harrier25 says:

I mean yes to the first part of your question As far as I’m aware, you lose them on cancellation of the card.

    • Youllnever says:

      You lose access immediately.

    • TGLoyalty says:

You lose them immediately because what really happens is PP charge your card but Amex don’t pass the first two on

No valid payment card = dead PP.

  • Boi says:

I have been charged with booking travel for 17 people for our 2 week vacation. Which card do I use?

Currencies: ZAR, GBP, CAD and USD.

I have the usual Amex, Hilton, HSBC, creation, bonvoy, MBNA – U.K. and Canada versions.

    • Blenz101 says:

      Revolut

    • Hulk says:

Get Curve and use it with creation as your underlying card 🤣

      • mr_jetlag says:

you mean bend the beardy solihull seagull, can’t divulge any top secrets…

    • Reney says:

what points do you want the most? any bonus on any of them? Are any of them forex free?

      • Boi says:

Bonvoy would be nice but cancelled out by forex. Thinking Amex gold as would earn double for airline and double forex? Is my thinking right?
Or I could go with hsbc as it is forex free but haven’t got my head around using/understanding the points value from it.

Not excited about cash back so I don’t use MBNA much

        • Boi says:

Like the bendy and revolutionary direction but won’t go there 🤣

          • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Do you have Beardy Boi? Beardy – Solihull – Che still working for me for a double dip 💪

        • Lady London says:

Isn’t Chase Sapphire more worthwhile in North America?

          • Lady London says:

Also did you eliminate the Amex ICC as of use to you. Rob did an article.

          • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Actually I expect VS not much good if Canada based – I’d vote Amex or HSBC route if only for the flexibility of convertible points !

          • Lyn says:

Chase pulled out of the Canadian credit card market several years ago. And Sapphire has only ever been offered in the US as far as I know. In general there is no such thing as a North American credit card market.

        • Michael says:

Is HSBC WE forex free? Didn’t think so but Virgin is for Euro transactions.

          • Boi says:

HSBC is forex free. I have the Canada version. Don’t know about the U.K. version is the same.
I have had ICC in the past but I thought paying it was a faff.

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Amex ICC will be OK for avoiding FX fees if paying in USD but only 1 point per $ is a bit underwhelming …

  • Tracey says:

A friend has booked TLV-LHR-GLA return. BA have just cancelled the TLV-LHR sectors both ways and moved her to the one flight each day they are operating Xmas time. So now she only has one hour to make the connection at LHR outbound and coming back they will need to move her to a flight the day before in order to make the 7.45am departure. Are BA obliged to pay overnight accommodation?

    • ChrisC says:

60 minutes is the T5-T5 minimum connection time

As these connections appear to meet that then no they won’t pay for accommodation.

    • Graham says:

The first Glasgow flight of the day won’t make it LHR in time so yes, they will need to manage some sort of duty of care for the inbound sector. Your friend will need to call them and ask what they’re going to do about it. As it’s cancellations she can also request to be rerouted on another airline at her convenience if they refuse to pay. But BA will try hard not to do this.

Just tell them to quote the EU261 regs – the UK has replicated them post-Brexit.

  • Lee says:

Upon checking my saved Morrison offer on Amex, it has been extended for another week.

  • Roy says:

Not useless. But it did prompt me to buy a new wallet, given I can no longer use Creation with Google Pay via Curve, and an disinclined to use Virgin in that way.

Ended up buying an Aviator Slide wallet – German competitor to the much-advertised Ridge minimalist wallet. https://aviatorwallet.com/

Would suggest the double-height coin drawer- I’m doubtful if British pound coins will fit in the standard version…

Very happy with it so far. Opted for the aluminium frame, too, FWIW

    • Sandgrounder says:

You still carry cash, and not just an emergency banknote? Coins? How quaint!

      • Roy says:

Sorry that was an accidental dupe of a reply I posted on page 4. Network problems and refresh, etc.

But, yes, I still carry cash, although it’s rare to have to use it these days.

I had to put a couple of pound coins into the the machine to top up the air in my tyres at the garage, the other week, though.

      • Rob says:

You need more drugs and prostitutes in your life, clearly (or cleaners).

      • bazza says:

hairdresser, car washer and pub local to work are all cash only
