We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone got experience of the abcv vegetarian restaurant in New York?
It is on the Amex Plat dining credit offer.

    Thanks.

    • HH says:

I suggested abc cocina, the sister restaurant in the same building as abc kitchen and abcv, last time you asked for NYC restaurant recommendations. You can’t really go wrong with Jean-Georges…

  • Backpacker says:

Hi All, Opinions please – What do you think is the Best Bank Account for Avios – Barclays Avios account OR
HSBC Premier (and their associated credit card – Given curve is on the way out for most accounts, I’m assuming it no longer works here either)?

What’s the upside/downside for each in your opinion?
The great Tesco current account is finally closing down and I only have this week to lodge a current account switch…

    Thanks in Advance HFP’s!

    • The Canuck says:

I’ve been with HSBC premier for the better part of 20 years and never once been impressed with their customer service. Lately though it has gone from terrible to absolutely shocking…

Can’t say I would recommend them at the moment and I’m actively looking for something else….

      • HBommie says:

I understand your pain but if it’s so bad a complaint should result in compensation. This may not be enough to salve the pain.

    • Froggee says:

Well HSBC will simply depend on your credit card spend (plus the Avios for signing up for the credit card). HSBC have occasionally run bonus point promotions for converting also. For Barclays you get your 1,500 Avios for £12 a month plus the switch bonus assuming you’re doing that. And of course the upgrade voucher. Neither will be life changing for Avios. So it depends on your credit card spend; what you actually want out of it; how much value you can get out of the upgrade voucher; and whether the upgrade voucher is much use to you (eg are you single or a family of four).

I have both HSBC and Barclays and the relationship managers thankfully leave me alone. If you actually want good service then there are better options for banks!

      • Froggee says:

Oh and I stopped Curving with HSBC a long time ago as I don’t want to provoke their systems. I value the HSBC relationship more as my wife has an overseas bank account with them that gets Premier status by relationship because of me (a joint account means my Jade status apparently transfers to her) and it is very handy for her to have.

        • Axel says:

If you are Jade their “systems” are configured to not question any odd spending especially financial transactions. So I would return to the Curve party while it lasts.

      • Rob says:

Barclays is down for a couple of weeks whilst the Avios IT work is done so you would have to apply for standard Premier and add Avios Rewards in a few weeks.

      • BuildBackBetter says:

Do you get salary credited to hsbc and transfer to Barclays? Or vice versa?

        • Jimbob says:

It doesn’t matter. My salary is paid into another account and then transferred to HSBC then Barclays.

  • KP says:

  • vlcnc says:

Did anyone have any luck with the ITA status match?? What do people send – is a screenshot of the card from the app enough??

    • Rob says:

They are coming through fine. Only did mine today, will report back on how long it takes.

      • Clive says:

Out of curiosity Rob what did you send them? I have been asked twice for additional info as they said they could not verify a phone grab of my BAEC card

    • Nectar Collector says:

Applied on Tuesday last week, received confirmation of successful match on Friday

    • PMG says:

I sent mine on 31/10 and received it back this morning so just over a week. Used the downloadable card from Exec Club online.

Matched BA Silver to Premium if that is useful info to anyone 🙂

      • vlcnc says:

Ah ok, I sent just a screenshot from the app. Will see what they say and if it doesn’t work send the downloadable one.

        • avstar says:

i sent a screenshot from the app, executive status confirmed after 4 days

          • vlcnc says:

Oh that’s good to know! I saw a lot of people seem to be rejected for screenshots from a cursory glance on various forums, where as the downloaded version seems to have more success. I will see what they say and report back!

          • Genghis says:

            +1

  • jj says:

That reply was for Backpacker earlier

  • Alex says:

Had a quick scan through comments and can’t see anything

On my BAPP I have 5% and 7% off at Costa coffee. Will these stack? Or will Amex just use the higher one and one is a glitch?

  • Reney says:

Saw this last week, did a bunch this weekend. Awaiting points.

  • meta says:

Not sure if this has been mentioned in previous daily chats, but I have again increased referral offer on my Amex Platinum. 70k sign up bonus and 24k for referrer. I thought that was supposed to end of 2 Nov.
