We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Completely O/T but is the free tea / coffee back in any Waitrose stores yet? Thanks

    • Alex says:

      No, stopped for the foreseeable

      • ChrisC says:

A week or so the space where the machines had previously been in my nearest Waitrose and had been cleared had a cover (for want of a better word) and it looked from the side like the machines were back in place but hidden away.

They have been serviced as usual although not used.
Just in accordance with the contract, the technician told me.

Does BA still have the 24 hour cooling off period for cancelling Reward Flight Saver bookings? (i.e. should receive a full refund of both Avios and cash).
I just wanted to double-check before I have another attempt at contacting them. I booked a RFS return flights earlier this week and cancelled well within the 24 hours but received a ‘Future Travel Voucher’ – which wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
Any chance I can actually get the Avios and cash back?

    • Peter K says:

I think you have to call to cancel at the moment. Online is FTV only.

    • Toby says:

I’ve found with the free within 24 hours of booking you always need to call. Can’t do it online.

  • George says:

LH are not responding to my claims via email and phone for reimbursement of costs for buying new clothing after they delayed my luggage for 24hrs in August. What are the next steps to take?

  • Harry T says:

Data point: Today I managed to change flight times and days for a couple of my Virgin redemption bookings on KLM and AF, without being charged any change fees. The WhatsApp team are really very good. It can take them a day or two to get back to you, but they are very friendly and helpful when they eventually reply. I also like that you can pay for flights via a secure form, unlike the terrible BA chat system. I’m really starting to think that BA have the least accessible customer service of any airline at the moment!

    • Blair says:

You would be right. Regular BA users might assume that their awful service is the norm “due to COVID” but that’s far from the case. I recently had AF receive my refund request on a Tues afternoon and refund was back on Amex Thursday.

      • Harry T says:

Yes, you are right. I cancelled a flying blue redemption for a full refund over chat (already superior to BA policy) and the entire process took about five minutes, including getting an agent on the chat.

Anyone tried Aqua Shard restaurant in the Shard? What are the views like?

    • Sandgrounder says:

I thought that said aqua shart the first time I read it.

    • Alan says:

I have been there a few times when the company was paying. Ok corporate food but I wouldn’t spend my own money to go there.

  • Russell says:

Regarding the 60k Avios bonus on the BA business card, I applied for this card and they have asked for further info in 2 emails. One they ask me to call. The 2nd they ask to send further info re my company. How may this affect the bonus if they only accept after the 60k bonus period? And is there any way to ensure I still get the bonus even if the application drags on?

    • Rob says:

It’s tricky. Because Amex won’t publicise the end date we don’t know if it is ‘apply by’ or ‘approved by’. In the absence of anything saying ‘approved by’ I think you are fine.

If you hadn’t read our article you wouldn’t even know the 60k was ending.

    • Andrew H says:

They emailed me asking me to phone – and wanted proof of company address. Sent it Weds. Received card today. It shouldn’t drag on…

  • FloriGuy says:

Does anyone know if HSBC is processing requests to upgrade Advance accounts to Premier?

Also, I have a credit card with HSBC. Do I need to cancel that before I upgrade to Premier banking in order to ensure that I get the sign up offer on the World Elite Card?

  • Crafty says:

Have those with an outstanding Bonvoy free night certificate (up to 25,000 points, earned from the credit card) had it extended until June as it was suggested recently?

Mine still reads expiring 3rd January. I’ve spotted a good option in February that I’d like to book. Wonder if mine has been missed…
