Melia Hotels launches a new American Express cashback offer

Melia Hotels has launched a new cashback deal for selected American Express cardholders.

If targetted, you will find it under the ‘Offers’ tab on the online statement page or in the app for one or more of the Amex cards you hold.

You will get £75 cashback when you spend £300 at participating hotels.

The snag is that only selected Melia properties are taking part. The only UK hotel is ME London, below, which is also by far the most expensive. You can see the full list here.

One surprising inclusion is the INNSIDE New York which we reviewed here and is usually good value.

This is the first Amex hotel offer I’ve seen which runs to 2022, with an end date of 4th February.

If you have American Express Platinum, you will receive Gold status in MeliaRewards. You may find some 20% discount vouchers in your Melia account which would stack with this offer. MeliaRewards is also an Avios partner so you can earn points from your stay.

There is also a Mandarin Oriental offer that runs until next year (£100 back on £500 by 28/02/22).

  • Timothy Firmager says:

I had been booked to stay in that Hilton Curio in Hamburg at the beginning of October this year. Hilton informed everyone with a forward booking via email on 27th July 2021 that the hotel would be leaving the chain.

  • JohnT says:

Melia also offering 35% discounts to their members.

Hamburg’s population is 1.85 m. So I would characterize Hilton’s remaining presence (one Hampton) as very weak.

IHG has good coverage, albeit mainly in the midscale segment. Radisson has decent coverage (only one hotel in the city center, but it has 556 rooms, waay more than the Hampton).

Accor has excellent coverage. So does Marriott. Premier Inn recently gained a few hotels.

Hampton is probably a no-go. The many Hilton afficinados will ensure elevated prices and poor availabilities.

      Agree. Bummer.

Get down the Park Hyatt. Very cheap, high quality and Emyr can get you €85 food credit and free brekky even on a one night stay.

    • HAM76 says:

There’s only one other Hilton, the Hampton in Kiel, within a three hour drive range from Hamburg. The closest Hiltons are in Berlin and Dusseldorf.

  • Qrfan says:

We stayed at that Curio with friends for the Christmas markets and really enjoyed it. The hotel cocktail bar was quite something. I was taken by how little they made of their Hilton affiliation though (even for a curio) so not that surprised they left.

  • Alex B says:

The annoying thing about the Reichshof is that I assume because it left Hilton it can no longer be booked in a BA holiday.

  • 1ATL says:

    spend*

  • Rob says:

Usual answer – totally depends whose credit card machines they are using. As STK is a totally separate company I reckon this does not get processed as Melia as so won’t count. You have more chance on the roof but still not certain.
