We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Can I apply for the nectar AMEX and be eligible for the sign up bonus after having the Marriott AMEX?

  • Grimz says:

I am being advised that the LFT for entry into USA can be done at home and not supervised?

    • happeemonkee says:

      Who is advising you that?

      From the CDC website

“The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection”

      • Grimz says:

My friend who is flying out on the 9th has booked a £15 LFT at home. Is that wrong? I have booked a LFT test at Boots for £30 so is this okay?

        • happeemonkee says:

The LFT test at Boots should be fine but the home one your friend has booked will be of no use unless it is supervised over video call. I think companies like breath assured offer them as well as qured.

      • TGLoyalty says:

        Literally no one will check.

        • Lyn says:

Literally no one except the airline and the US health authorities doing random but thorough checks as soon as you get off the plane in the US?

And this is the current situation, even before the US opens to European visitors on Monday.

Some of these comments are misleading.

    • Andrew says:

Needs to be at a testing centre like Boots or Express Test or a video one like Qured. Your friend won’t be able to board the flight with an unsupervised LFT so suggest they make new arrangements for testing.

    • Paul says:

I highly doubt the CBP office will care whether it’s done under supervision or not. They’re probably not going to bother asking to see a certificate. Too focused on actual immigration stuff

      • Andrew says:

They don’t check – it’s the airline before checkin

      • Magic Mike says:

We’ll see on Monday – any excuse to kick you out of the US is usually seized upon with glee…

    • Lyn says:

This definitely does not sound right, as commenters above have pointed out. Penny wise, pound foolish comes to mind.

Note that in addition to your airline checking the tests, there are also random but quite thorough checks of the tests by people representing the health authorities as soon as you get off the plane in the US.

Don’t know if everyone knows, but if you link your Virgin Flying Club account with your Virgin Red account you can use your credit card points for Virgin Red experiences.

NOW TV offering £20 sky sports for 6 months

    • elguiri says:

if only they would offer for entertainment pass…

      • Spurs drive me mad says:

        That’s £20 a month for 6 months, not £20 for 6 months.
If you go to cancel entertainment pass you can be offered £4.99 a month for 6 months.

      • Gavin says:

I got offered entertainment for £1/ month for first 2 months a while back.

    • Tony says:

Got a link for this offer please?

      • Neil says:

NOW TV Offers are usually targeted so probably not a general open to all offer. I’ve had the same offer in the past and since cancelling about a month ago I’m waiting to see what I get offered.

  • Joe says:

Has anyone used the Regus on Bath Road to park for LHR T5 departures – if so would you recommend it?

  • Newbie says:

How long does a transfer form MR to hilton take. It says 5 working days on the amex website but just been told by Hilton CS that: “I would like to inform, it does take timeframe of 4-6 weeks for the points to be transferred to the Honors account.”

  • Tony says:

Have a potential week long trip to Miami in two weeks from LHR. Can someone point me to an idiots guide to what’s involved re: testing etc? I’ve not really been paying attention to the latest as I didn’t expect this to come up so soon. I’ll be flying with AA on a reward booking and am double jabbed, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

    • BLT says:

You need a LFT (supervised) within 3 days of US arrival. Fill in the attestation form and that should be it. 2 day LFT on return to the UK.

      • ianM says:

I don’t think it needs to be supervised. An NHS LFT and attestation will be sufficient

        • Jen T says:

Definitely supervised. Check CDC and FCDO website for accurate information, not forums or chat pages!

  • Andrew H says:

How long does Amex accelerating Business card take to arrive once approved? Want to save some spend items until I get it if I can
