We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

It’s payable every time so yes you’ll get it every time.

Btw finding all offers are taking their sweet time at the moment.

Virgin Upper Class Wing. Travelled yesterday. Upper class wing is fully open including the fast track security. Drop off was well marked. OH waited with the bags while I returned the car. Sneakily avoided the Terminal 3 drop off area. Didn’t notice the police van on the parallel road. Heard a honk and when I slowed he didn’t stop me but wave me away. Not much of a crowd in upper class wing when we checked in. Fast track was empty. Clubhouse was packed.

    • Andrew says:

Were you flying Upper Class or as FlyingClub Gold in another cabin? And what time was the Clubhouse packed?

      • Shaw West says:

We were flying upper class. Checked in at 09:40 and was at the clubhouse at 09:50. The clubhouse was very busy.

  • Doog1000 says:

I notice Virgin is shutting down its website on Sunday – I wonder if this will lead to its updated terms re use on Bendy actually being enforced?

  • Robman says:

Hi H4P community. I need to spend £2k in the next week to get my BAPP 2-4-1 voucher. Have done all the obvious spend but now needing some advice: a) which hotels can I book that will be refundable but charge my card immediately? b) is it worthwhile to buy Hilton points or IHG points at the moment,, to top up my 2 main hotel loyalty schemes. C) any other good ideas for refundable spend. Thanks in advance.

    • AJA says:

You could book a flight on BA and get the double Avios on top. Then cancel the flight for an FTV to use at a future date. That way you won’t have Avios clawed back in the future as you would with a refund of hotel spend. I’m considering doing this later this month to get the bonus 10k Avios on £5k spend as I’m not sure I will get there with normal spending.

    • Anna says:

It’s worth buying hotel points if you know you can get an outstanding redemption, though with dynamic pricing this is becoming more difficult. Only buy if there’s a decent bonus on offer though.

      • Anna says:

I would not be getting any more FTVs after the daily horror stories about trying to get through to BA to use them!

        • ChrisC says:

flight only booking would get an e-voucher.

Robman needs the spend to get his 2-4-1.

    • Andrew H says:

Any refundable Hotels.com will charge immediately (if that’s what you select)….and be refundable

      • Rob says:

        This.

        • Laura says:

I understand this works for a 241 because once that’s in your account they can’t take it back, but does this approach (e.g. refundable hotel and cancel) also work for sign up bonuses? Or can they take back the MR points/Avios and reverse the SUB?

          • John says:

Do a refundable transaction to just under the threshold, wait for it to post and then buy a coffee or something to take you over the threshold. The bonus will post with the coffee transaction and not be taken away when the earlier transaction is refunded

          • Rob says:

            They take it back.

    • Alex M says:

      Overpay council tax via paypoint?

    • JohnT says:

Hotel points usually charged in $ though..

    • Joe says:

      Amazon gift card?

  • Aston100 says:

    Creation, if done correctly.

  • Aston100 says:

Sorry asked last night but didn’t see a reply.

I got my Amex Plat a bit too late for Shangri La status.
Is there a cheap and easy way to get Jade status?
The status matcher website implies that a status match is unlikely from IHG and Hilton.
    Hence looking for suggestions.

    Thanks.

  • Cheshire Pete says:

Just a heads up. My First ticket to Miami, which was downgraded to Business and then we chose a re route via AA in First has now been reinstated to the A380 in First in February.

It was a 241 booking and with GUF and no First ‘A’ or Avios were available but the BA policy is I could move back to the BA metal due to the previous equipment swap.

Re the IHG/Creation debacle…..I just called 0121 712 5078 to query my missing points from Oct 2021 statement. Same answer – no points awarded from date of notice to close the account, which was 30th Sept 2021 in my case.

Now lodged formal complain that I am awaiting acknowledgement on:
    1. Paid annual fee at yearly renewal in July 2021, no intention to pro-rata refund me at this time
    2. Earned free night between July 2021 and 30 Sept 2021 when account closure was advised, no intention to honour this reward at this time
    3. Earned points from 30 Sept 2021 with spend that is not being awarded, closure letter does not mention this restriction at all, nor does it mention any contract terms for closure

Same boat as everything else. This has been handled exceptionally poorly by Creation.

    • Sina says:

I was charged the annual fee on 22nd Oct 2021 even though the account is on notice!

So it seems Creation is trying to milk it rather than follow the industry guidelines!!

@Rob you have awarded them and actively promoted their products, but oddly I haven’t seen any comments from you regarding this? I think it’s only fair to come out and say something about this??

      • Sean says:

look back at yesterdays threads and you might just find something.

      • Rob says:

We did an article when the letters came out. We’ll do another article when people start getting Ombudsman decisions issued.

        • Yorkie Aid says:

          So 2023 most likely 🙂

        • Track says:

Yup. Datapoint, FOS complaints accepted March 2021, company responded April 2021. Still not allocated to an investigator Nov 2021.
