We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

@Rob You have the ‘Loyalty Summit ‘ coming up shortly. Are you looking for any particular questions or comments to be raised from us, or is it not that type of conference? In my opinion, the US version sounds perhaps more interesting in respect of Loyalty, where the only loyal customers seem to be the banks nowadays spending millions on points/miles, not so called, Frequent Flyers who are just a means to an end.

    • Rob says:

Amusingly, I don’t actually know at the moment which panel I am doing because they keep shuffling me about based on who else is agreeing to join in. The organisers know I’m happy just to jump in wherever and that I have an opinion on most things, whilst the industry people – mindful of the companies they represent – like to know exactly what they will expected to discuss.

Has anyone else had issues seeing boarding passes on the BA app? Both my wife and I checked in recently and no sign of that flight/boarding pass shown on the app. Despite having several upcoming flights, only one flight is shown…

  • Bill says:

I travelled through IOM last week and there was a sign up saying the lounge would reopen on 1 November. I haven’t been able to verify bit presume it went ahead as planned. Priority Pass app says it’s still closed but that doesn’t surprise me

yourparkingspace – anyone used it for the Thistle at Heathrow T5? Looks ridiculously cheap but no mention if you can use the pods. I seem to remember a sign outside the pod gate that said “hotel guests only” so wondering if anyone had anyone experience of using it. I tend to travel with a large bag and the 423 bus has been rammed anytime I’ve tried it in the past so I won’t be doing that.

    • Craig says:

I wouldn’t bank on using the Pods, when I tried the gate was locked and nobody answered the intercom. I didn’t find the 423 too bad to be honest which I used on the way out, a very nice Uber driver picked us up from Pod Parking and drove us back to the Thistle. I think I was lucky to get the Uber to be honest, we nearly ended up catching the bus back to T5 and then catching the 423. Mrs S wasn’t happy.

    • Darko says:

You can use the parking, but pods are working on and off. There were reports that pods were working but then stopped. So I don’t know the situation at the moment. There is a replacement bus shuttle service from the airport to Thistle, but the transfer from the hotel to the airport is a hit and miss…

      • Will_ says:

Cheers – pods are definitely working now from what I can gather and I’d rather use them if possible as I’ve a large golf travel bag. T5 Business Parking for my dates is £112 whilst the Thistle is £20 + £12 pod charge – if I can use them. I’ve tried phoning the Thistle but it goes to a central reservation number who know nothing.

Does anyone use Crowdcube and pay via Amex?
If so, do they charge a fee for this?

Normally I’d do a small transaction too see before the big transaction, but this isnt possible.

    • Andrew H says:

      Yes, and no they don’t

Crowdcube presumably cover their costs in the 1.5% mark up

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Damn didn’t know you could do that. Rocky error

      • Tw33ty says:

Thanks, was putting it all through ihg black, but no point is I may not get the points!

Re. the upcoming Curve Metal (Fronted) changes, or more limits should I say, coming in from 1st Dec. Does this also apply to those who have recently upgraded to Metal, or are they immediately tied to the £10k p/m limit, and if so how would they know?

  • SG says:

    Morning all
Before going to be on hold for hours with Virgin,I remember a reader here has had the same situation. The 15000 from my recent flight with Virgin have posted on activity but not been added to the total.Has been a month now,not quite sure what is happening.Anyone else with the same problem?

    • AL says:

Are you seeing this in Virgin Red or in FC? I occasionally have weird oddities with FC but Red is always up to date (FC, for example, doesn’t know how to properly show VTT earnings). I would trust Red over FC, therefore, even though both should be the same. If they’re not, WhatsApp FC (since they are the originator of your credit).

  • Andrew H says:

A few weeks ago I used VACC+ and wasn’t charged fees (for a couple of small deposits) though others say they are charged, so the rules may have changed

    • Paul says:

I assumed Virgin and Che still charged a fee, I wonder why that’s changed if so…
