We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone used AMEX chat lately? I have not been able to use it for a week now. Tried Chrome, Safari, in-app… nada

    • Shaw West says:

earlier today. Got them to transfer MR to virgin points. Safari on MacBook

  • Ed says:

Had an email from creation “important – changes to the way you can pay your creation issued credit card”. Oddly, even in the most popular category, didn’t mention paying using a bearded, bent, revolutionary seagull.

Any over 50s can now book booster. You’ll be given dates 6 months after your 2nd jab. (Actually mine is 180 days)

Anyone interested in a Freetrade referral? My free share was a US lithium company – worth about £20.

  • Mart says:

Off to bicester tomorrow, any tips for maxing avios earnings? Couple of good offers on my BAPP for places we may go but aside from that, it has been quite a while! Thanks.

    • Reney says:

there is a spend £600 get back £60 offer on my BAPP. Bicester is also on airtime if you are spending less than £600.

    • Njb says:

Only tip I have is if you want to shop at Gucci, Moncler or even White Company book a slot !

      • Axel says:

That’s why I dropped Jade as hsbc foolishly “use” Quintessentially.

If you have followed the 1mdb saga in Malaysia or the recent shenanigans at St. James park …..

      • Andrew says:

The 24 hour cut-off period for claiming your Avios isn’t particularly strict – I would still send them in now and apologise for the delay etc. The customer service team are very friendly and accommodating. Amex Plat also gives you the 10% VIP and also the hands-free shopping facility.

        • Gin and Tonic Please says:

+1. I did that last week, 5 days after shopping, and they credited my account just fine.

  • Alex says:

Came home from abroad and received a Chronomics PLF kit for day 2 test. I have an unused PLF arrival test bought from them in August, and it looks identical to this day 2 kit. I am fairly unhappy that Chronomics does not allow to use the previous kit and wants us to buy a new one. Anyone knows does the government verify the test package booking reference and checks you had the PLF on day 2 or before? Inclined to try and register the old test and see what happens…

    • Ryan says:

The PLF literally only checks that the code is in the right format, I’ve used the same code twice. Now, you are risking being checked and you would possibly be found out that you’re reusing the code.

The chances? Almost impossible, my guess is even if they check, a quick show of the email (from before) would probably suffice…

But they check virtually no one…

  • Cranzle says:

Will Amex allow a ‘business’ card in addition to four personal cards?

    • Young L says:

      Yes.

    • G says:

Not in my experience a few months ago. Had 4 personal cards, cancelled one and then a few days later applied for the BA business card. Got rejected citing the 4 cards rule, as I assume their system had not caught up by that point

  • Martin says:

Hi – could someone tell if it is still possible to get a cash refund on an Avios booking rather than take a voucher ? Thanks in advance

    • Anna says:

Yes, usual conditions of £35 pp fee apply, but you have to call, unless BA has cancelled your flight.

      • Martin says:

        Thanks !

      • BJ says:

DP, cancelled 3 last Saturday, 2 refunds on card Monday morning and the remaining one yesterday. BA maintaining 100% record on refunding me with zero hassle. All but two refunds were within 48h and those other two within a week.
