The HfP chat thread – Thursday 4th November

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Data point – Amex. Referred player 2 for BA Amex last Friday. Surprised when application was rejected as never had Amex do that before. Called on Monday and provided some extra details which they said would review. I received referral points on Tuesday, player 2 card arrived today and has 40k spend bonus listed.

Was going to top up Revolut with hsbc WE and wondered if anyone had done it recently? In past only got charged a miniscule amount of interest.
    Thanks

    Amex Plat referrals….

I did have the ‘Get 24K until 2nd November’ for each referral, however I just checked again. Still at 24K for each referral and a whopping 70K for the other person who takes out the Plat card. Generous Amex!

    • SteveJ says:

90k annual cap does mean it’s far to easy to burn through.

      • Ryanfozzie says:

It turns out I had 2 MR accounts for 2 different cards. Amex merged them and seem to have ‘lost’ history for my main card with the 24K bonus. Expected for the cap to hit and limit my last referral to 18K, but nope – it posted as 24K!

    • Britbronco says:

Looks like this might be targeted, like earlier in the year. Just standard 12k for me now.

  • Aliks says:

If I cancel my Virgin+ credit card, do I lose my Virgin Voucher?

I assume its safe and sound in my Virgin Atlantic account because I can see it in the Activity log, but I can’t for the life of me see any place on the website that shows details on my voucher

    • Froggee says:

Once you’ve earned it, and it’s in your Virgin Atlantic account, it’s safe.

  • Aliks says:

I just read the Headforpoints article that says there is nothing but the one line entry in the activities log saying that you earned the voucher.

Which begs the question, do you have to call up Virgin to actually use the voucher?

    • Rob says:

      Yes

    • davef says:

Yes and when I called to use mine last sunday they were incredibly efficient. Manged to get connected in 21 mins and then 7 mins to book an open jaw with points and use the voucher to upgrade.

Just make sure you use seatspy and then double check availablity in both cabins on the website before you call.

  • MilesOnPoint says:

My IHG Spire status is still showing an expiration date of 31/12/2021.

Do we know when we expect the extended status date to show? (RE: all members being extended to Feb 2023)

    • SteveJ says:

Next few weeks is what the email said. Why the rush? They’ve confirmed it’s happening.

      • MilesOnPoint says:

I didn’t receive the email, so didn’t have that detail re: timeline.

  • George says:

Does Airtime Rewards have issues tracking via Google Pay? I used it in Wilko last week but still isn’t showing as tracked. Annoying as I had some promo codes I was hoping it would activate.

  • Degsy says:

Creed has arrived at Terminal 5. Hallelujah.
(Soz if this has already been mentioned.)
