We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi. I’ve just had a flight to Bahrain cancelled in Feb and moved 24 hours later. I think I’ve read previously on here that it means I can re-route my destination and go anywhere within 500 miles – is this correct? Many thanks.

  • Ali M says:

    reporting back…
departure from Maldives – under 12s didn’t need PCR.for entry however anyone over the age of one needs a negative PCR.This is assuming coming to the UK

    • Benilyn says:

What were your routings for the trip if you don’t mind sharing your experiences for PCRs needed. I think I have a similar trip to you lined up.

    • Ali M says:

      Lon-AUH-Male

      • Ali M says:

used randox on way and simolytest me on the way back

      • Blenz101 says:

Is it the trainst via AHU that required the return test. There is no requirement to have a test to leave the Maldives itself. I did need one to got back to DXB but it was arranged free of charge by my resort.

        • Ali M says:

I think it’s requirement by Etihad to have everyone over the age of 12 to have negative PCR

      • Benilyn says:

        Thanks I’m doing
        Lon-MLE
MLE-AUH (but driving on arrival to DXB)

  • Sam G says:

I had the same conversation with them about an offer as well – absolutely did activate before purchase. Ended up cancelling and resubscribing. Won’t be bothering again

  • Casper says:

Apologies as I’m sure this has come up again and again but want to be sure.

Currently a Plat supp holder and BAPP main holder…just took out my own plat (still hold supp too) – wanted to ensure that I’m eligible for 60k bonus? 6k Spend bar is missing from Amex login so a bit concerned… Is this just an IT issue or have I ineligible for bonus?

    • Rob says:

You’re fine as long as you’ve not had a Plat or Gold in the past 24 months.

  • TicknBash says:

Does anyone know when using 241 return booking, is passenger 1 able to fly the inbound leg if passenger 2 doesn’t ?
Or is my only option is to use 241 as a one way outbound and cash ticket inbound ?

    TIA

    • Marina says:

I am interested to see replies as my husband may have to fly back earlier than me from holiday for a family funeral. Hoping to have the date of funeral before we take the outbound flight on Monday – I was planning on contacting BA changing return club world flights to one way using 2-4-1 ticket and then just using avios to book two separate flights back – him in economy a couple of days before & me in club suite on the original date, but presuming once I cancel the original club world seats they may not be available for me to pick straight back up if released.

    • Marina says:

Still use avios to get back it’s just the old 2-4-1 voucher that has to start in U.K.

    • Blenz101 says:

I think what you are asking is if one passenger no-shows for the return leg rather than trying to mix a return and a single in with a 2-4-1 as a booking.

Perfectly fine for them not to show up to the return leg but you won’t be getting any carrier imposed charges or Avios back (albeit no Avios are due given the 2-4-1). You could try and get the actual taxes back which are being collected on behalf of the government but expect to fight for them.

What wouldn’t work is a no-show on the outbound and expect to take the return leg as in this situation failing to take the outbound would cancel the inbound.

      • Tracey says:

This would work provided the holder still travels. If the companion is the one that needs to keep the return ticket, you may run into a problem as that breaches the rules in theory.

        • blenz101 says:

Agreed, it should be the ‘companion’ that doesn’t travel and they are the lead passenger to comply with the terms.

To be honest I can’t see them turning away someone with a valid ticket under these circumstances. BA get to keep the carrier charges, carry less baggage and an additional seat has been made available last minute. There is no advantage for the passenger being gained here and the airline is suffering no loss. Why risk a claim for IDB.

      • TicknBash says:

        Thanks both @Tracey and @Blenz101.
Better to tap into the wisdom here than a hypothetical situation with a BA CS.

  • Lee says:

    Question for BA rewards seat.
I have a booking to LAX next April, PE out and CW in. Now CW is available for outbound but no seat for return. Is there any way I could just upgrade outbound but not touch inbound ticket?
    Thanks

    • Jon G says:

Can’t ‘upgrade’ per se given that these are reward bookings, but BA may be able to split your bookings, cancel the outbound and rebook it in CW. They may charge you a change fee as well.

You probably already know this, but don’t try to cancel the entire booking and rebook, as availability does not always go back into the redemption pool.

    • Mattb says:

Yes you can make an amendment to the outbound only, you may have to pay a change fee.

I did the same on a CW booking when F came up for just the outbound.

      • Mark says:

Yes you can, just call up and pay the £35 fee pp to change and any additional taxes/charges and avios. Done this a lot when securing a date with an economy seat and cw or F become available.

    • Lee says:

      Thanks all for your replies

  • C says:

Anyone had any issues filling in the Spanish PLF? I’m getting a validation error with my vaccination certificate. It’s saying error in the number of doses required

    • FFoxSake says:

Are you looking at the 2nd dose code in the App? It defaults to the first dose. Might need to swipe left.

  • MQ says:

Hi all do you thinkt the Melia AMEX offer works on points purchases on the website? It says in store and online? The terms arent very clear

    • Rob says:

No, it will go via points.com.

      • Tonyb says:

We are staying at Innside New York in December which is on the list. Between my wife and I we have the offer on 4 different cards do you think we would be able to split the bill across the 4? I wouldn’t normally pay with Amex but the cash back would make it worthwhile

    • Andrew says:

The list of participating properties is quite limited too.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Just a little. Only 1 U.K. property and that’s the ME

        • Andrew says:

Although they do only have 6 properties in the U.K. anyway.

          • TGLoyalty says:

            They reckon they have 8….

5 in London (though 3 of them are just basically The White House) and 1 Innside in each of Manchester Newcastle and Liverpool
