We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Paul says:

Can you cancel Curve Metal for a pro rata refund? I was under the impression you couldn’t however had seen some comments recently suggesting otherwise.

    • Peter K says:

Depends on how long you’ve had curve metal for. If longer than the minimum period it seems they give a pro rata refund.

      • Sam says:

Terms say min six months, then you can get a prorata refund. Before six months, it’s something like a £50 fee…

  • Andrew says:

10% rebate at Sazbo’s on my BoS and MBNA accounts.

  • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

The Labour Party have had their membership database hacked last week.
They’ve assured me they’re investigating and require me to be vigilant.

  • Maximus says:

One of my 2-4-1 vouchers from the BAPP card expires in January. Is there a way of extending it?

  • LS says:

Did the TAP status match last year to gold. Never used it.
Got an email today offering me another year of gold if I join the TAP club TOP at EUR399. I do get a load of miles with this. But havent quite crunched the numbers yet.

    • Rob says:

I never got this …. mine expired end Sep. They didn’t even reply to an email.

      • LS says:

In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the Status Match Campaign in which you have participated, you were allowed to obtain TAP Miles&Go Gold status on November 3rd 2020, for a minimum period of 12 months (Art. 3.4.1).

As it is necessary to comply with the provisions of Article 3.4.2 to renew the validity of your status, simultaneously earn at least 25,000 (twenty-five thousand) Status Miles and 4 (four) TAP Air Portugal flight segments during the card’s validity period (from 03/11/2020 to 30/11/2021), this has not yet occurred.

Exceptionally, due to the pandemic circumstances we are going through, we inform you that it will be possible to guarantee the maintenance of your TAP Miles&Go Gold status, under the Status Match Campaign, for at least 12 additional months if you complete one of the two challenges proposed between November 1st and 30th 2021:

        – Acquiring Club TAP Miles&Go TOP or Platinum
        or
        – Purchase of a minimum of 14,000 miles at the Miles Shop

Please note that the bonus miles credited under the campaigns available are not considered in reaching the minimum value of 14,000 miles to be acquired, although eventual promotions may guarantee the credit of additional miles in your account.

This offer is personalized, limited and is valid until November 30th 2021.

If you wish to fulfil the challenge in question, please reply to this e-mail. Your TAP Miles&Go Gold status will be updated and valid for a new minimum of 12 months, after your product purchase.

      • LS says:

You seem to get 64000 miles for EUR399. I need to see if I would actually use this (on top of the 14,000 I have from last year’s club)

    • Alex says:

      Money down the drain…

      • meta says:

Yes, TAP miles are worthless. You can’t use them to reduce the cost of flight unless you want to fly economy and that doesn’t make sense given that cash prices can be quite cheap.

I only credited one flight (short-haul) and that seems to have extended my status as the expiry shows 30/09/22.

        • Lady London says:

Hum was that TAP flight the one you went to MCOL and got BA to pay fir, meta? 🙂

          • meta says:

Yes. Well, I didn’t get Avios or tier points, so I guess that makes up for it. In fact, BA also paid out EU compo making the whole trip almost free, incl. a F&B at SSDV.

  • Pete1968 says:

Covid-19: just signed my son up for his 3rd/ booster jab in a couple weeks – he’s only 20 & fit as a fiddle so not at any particular risk – but no point taking unnecessary risks/ killing Grandpa.

    Get the booster, y’all 🙂

    • SteveJ says:

      Is he even eligible?

      • Pete1968 says:

Sure – autism. Learning difficulties apparently means they’ll not worry about inappropriate close contact.

I don’t really believe it as he is fit as a butcher’s dog & pure muscle (I’ve been knocked over/ kapowed/ punched in the mush a few times, but hey! that’s what you get).

But he is actually going minus 1 in the UK numbers of people likely to get Covid-19/ spread it, so I’m all in favour even if it means jumping the queue (which he’s not really doing, that was me).

    • HH says:

How did you do that? I’m wrestling with my GP to recognise my carer status so I can get a booster (in my 20s).

    • Tracey says:

I hope grandpa also has his booster!

      • Pete1968 says:

He is very laissez faire, I think he will be due booster in November – not a big problem as he has isolated himself from society since March 2020, his life is all computer, TV and Alexa, plus luckily my cat when we head off to the sun.

And I mean isolate. No contact with people whatsoever but that seems to suit him fine.

I think he has become terrified of getting Covid-19/ contact with humans and that fear has made him a modern day hermit. (Without the religion.)

        82. He won’t get coronavirus but might die of the common cold.

        • Andrew H says:

Changes are afoot. The site now says 5 months and 1 week (if you try to book). However that’s not working for me – my 2nd was 21st May which Is over 5 months and 1 week ago.

          “Booster dose-

In some cases it can take up to 5 months and 1 week (159 days) before you’ll be able to book online”

          • HH says:

Oh good spot! I’ll be at 159 days by the weekend, so will follow their suggestion and call the phone line instead.

        • Anna says:

Autism isn’t one of the listed conditions so how did you manage that for your son?

        • Lady London says:

Does that mean he should have flu vacc Pete1968. I’m thinking fewer people got flu as covid precautions seem to have worked a bit for flu so as and when flu comes, there will be less immunity?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Though Can still catch it and if he does can still pass it on …

  • Scott says:

Any ideas where I might get a Covid recovery certificate from?
Looking at backup options should they be required.

Tested positive on the 31st Oct and isolating until the 11th Nov.
Hopefully flying to the US on the 26th Nov, and planned to take a rapid antigen test no later than the 25th.
Assuming that test didn’t give a negative result, my backup option would be a Covid recovery certificate, but no idea where you get one.
Possibly the NHS app (which I’ll get the pass from to show I’m double vaxxed), but would that be acceptable if it were there?

Also, the rapid antigen test results get emailed to you.
Would they print a copy off for you at the time, or would I need to find somewhere to do it myself? GC has printers still?

    • Anuj says:

If you’ve recovered in the (last six months I think) then your NHS covid section should have it, not sure if it only shows under domestic or travel or both.

    • Andrew H says:

If it was a PCR test then it’ll be in your NHS app.

      • Andrew H says:

The app disables the certificate until 10 or 14 days after the positive test.

  • Pete1968 says:

Oh great. Now we’re all going to get bird flu. National warning, don’t go kissing any birds.
