We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just called Creation to query about Curve being blocked. Asking them if we can top up Revolut with the IHG CC they were adamant that this is not allowed.

    • James says:

I’m trying to find ways to max out my Creation Marriott card before it gets cancelled. Might as well get the points whilst I can.

    • Voltron says:

Should have asked them do they know any more ways to MS and get free points.

    • Chas says:

      I’d like to think you’re joking, but….

    • Char Char says:

If you ain’t getting points it doesn’t matter, ask where are the points before questioning what u spend the money on!

    • Char Char says:

This question is like asking them, can i buy a gift card and then sell it to my mate for cash

      • Track says:

What’s wrong with it, particularly if your mate is unbanked and have no access to credit cards.. he can’t pay with cash online.

    • Toddy says:

      Why???

    • Tw33ty says:

Lol. This is why it’s all came to a head with creation.

      • Track says:

        Not really.

It came to a head because Creation counted those 2.99% FX fees on Curve transactions from abroad and suddenly decided it is their missed revenues.

Getting rid of paying customers in the process.

BA question before I spend time on the phone…

Outbound flight was taken start of September. Mid September I get an email saying inbound flight has been changed (different flight number and 7h30m earlier). Inbound is this Sunday. The email says I need to confirm travel on new flight but I have not done anything yet.

Can I just leave that ticket hanging past this Sunday and call up in a month or so when I have a definitive return date? Failing that I will have to lock in a return date but that may need to be moved further out again and not sure if that would be charged for?

BRS datapoint: PP Aspire lounge closed all day today and tomorrow. Frankie and Bennies closed. Burger King closed. BRS has resumed normal service post-covid!

  • Ryanfozzie says:

    Evening all!

Any datapoints on people applying for the Amex Platinum card in the last week or so and getting the £200 dining credit?

    Cheers!

    • elguiri says:

I’m pretty sure I read someone say they did this either earlier today or yesterday…

      • Ryanfozzie says:

        Cheers, thanks! 🙂

Had my card just over a week ago and, like most offers, the restaurant deal appeared on Monday.

It was lsted as a card benefit when I signed in to my account on the website, so would have been easy to request even if it weren’t added automatically.

Shame the restaurants are so London-centric.

    • Hugh says:

      i did this successfully yesterday!

    • Andrew says:

It’s an advertised benefit of the card at the moment, so it will be added no problem.

    • Rob says:

Still turning up – and it’s in the Platinum events app so hard to deny you.

  • Lady London says:

You can change the whole trip now to a future date if you want to, due that cancellation.

It will make things easier later if you call or tweet BA to let them know following their cancellation you ‘ll be rerouting the whole trip to another date later and will get back to them when you have replanned but meanwhile BA please note you won’t be on this outward flight (so there’s no doubt you’re not a no show).

You can also choose full refund instead.

If you want to fly out when you are now, try in Manage My Booking to choose another date or flight for your return, you are not obliged to select the one that’s showing so make sure you don’t click accidentally to accept. You can also try to rebook to a much later date for the whole trip in MMB, sometimes that works saving you calling them.

If this doesn’t work you’ll have to call them but getting through is reported to range from impossible to difficult.

    • Lady London says:

Above for G apologies missed that you did outbound already. Try online on mmb otherwise call or tweet to let them know you won’t be on it will choose another one and will get back to the.. you can also elect to come back from an airport within 300 miles instead which is a concession BA are currently making.8

      • G says:

Thanks LL. Moving airport is not an issue, just the date. I’ll check and see what it shows in MMB but will defo tweet BA so it’s not marked as a no show.

      • HH says:

Why do people keep posting replies without using the reply function? I don’t get it.

  • Hotinnewcastle says:

Going to take the plunge with ba accelerating card and hoping to spend the 5k for 60k avios. Want to confirm that if cancelled do you get a pro rota refund for any due fees if cancelled after 6 months for example?

    • Rob says:

All Amex UK cards offer this.

If you can apply via the link in the top right corner of the screen we’d be grateful – we get a few quid off Amex and you don’t lose anything. Thanks.

  • Andrew says:

About a week for me. Offers seem quite slow at the moment.

  • SteveJ says:

Completely varies, sometimes 2 days, other times closer to 10 days. No rhyme or reason.
