We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I now have a Amex Gold Business and Personal Amex Platinum, the Reward points show separately when I cancel one will they automatically transfer to the other or do I need to do something before cancellation?

    • Ryan says:

Phone / chat them and request that they get merged into one card

Mine got merged into biz gold when I cancelled plat

  • Anna says:

Apologies, another BER questions! Looking at the Priority Pass website there doesn’t seem to be a lounge! Quite disappointed as was hoping to use my 2 free passes before our EJ flight home next month, is this correct?

    • Pete M says:

Correct. I noticed a big sign this morning saying “no Priority Pass”. BA silver and above and J gets you in though.

      • Pete M says:

Ah, sorry, just noticed the EZ comment. You could pay, but at EUR45pp it’s a complete rip off!

        • Anna says:

Thanks @Pete M, OH is only Bronze and I’m Blue, I’m sure we’ll cope but probably the only chance we’d have to use the passes before they expire. Yes, I imagine we can get a better meal and a drink for 45 euros each in the airport!

Curve HRMC – Tried to pay a VAT bill today and HRMC declined the payment. No messages on Curve, underlying card is COT. Tried another underlying card and still get a. declined message from HRMC.

Made a VAT payment on Friday and worked fine. Possible HRMC blocking curve?

    • Alan says:

I understand NS&I taking a dim view of people recycling premium bonds for points but why would HMRC care if you pay tax via Curve.

    • Jonathan says:

Exact same problem. Worked fine over the weekend too so something seems to have changed today. It errors too quickly to be the cc issues end and more likely HMRC end.

      • Jonathan says:

I paid a small amount of my debit card and it went through OK. Tried to pay via Curve using the the same debit card underlying and it failed. Seems Curve is not working with HMRC today….

    • Gary says:

Mine went through around 8am today

  • Wheezer says:

Has anyone been through Gatwick recently? I’m flying out one evening this week and was wondering if paying for premium security was worth it or if the security queues were ok.

    • Bill says:

We went through security on the 23rd at 0745. Very quick. Just a handful of people in front of us

    • Damian says:

My wife went straight through at 0830 on Friday.

    • John says:

Almost never worth it to pay unless it’s the first day of school holidays

  • Binks says:

Looking at the comments above. Is it possible to cancel your amex business plat card and have the points transferred to your Amex personal mr account?

    • Sam G says:

Yes. ask chat to merge the accounts before you cancel the biz card

    • Rob says:

There are ONLY personal Amex MR accounts. There is no such thing as business MR account. If your business card feeds into a different one to your personal card (as mine does) then it is an Amex IT error from when your card was set up. I don’t bother getting it fixed because it gives me another 90k of referral capacity per year. Just ring Amex and get your two MR accounts merged.

I was a bit annoyed last night when buying a Virgin flight one-way back from USA to LHR – it was priced in US dollars and wouldn’t let me change it to £ anywhere that I could see, so I’ll get stung for FX fees. Is this because it was originating in the US?

    • Andrew says:

Which currency would you expect to be charged in when it’s a one way flight departing from the USA?

You could easily have booked the flight via a UK OTA who would have charged you in you in Sterling.

FX fees are a lifestyle choice.

      • ianM says:

I just thought since I’m sitting in the UK on my UK based Virgin account, paying within UK airspace that I would be able to pay in GBP.

    • Andrew H says:

If they offered GBP you’d be paying the FX in that price

    • BigSi says:

You can ask them on WhatsApp chat to price the fare in GBP, sometimes it works out the same with no FX and sometimes you end up in a different fare class and pay more (or less). Bit late now though if you have already paid.

    • Blair says:

Book same flight on KLM who will price up in GBP if your IP address is in the UK

  • MKB says:

Does anyone have a current email address for Marriott Bonvoy? marriott.bonvoy@marriott-service.com was working earlier this year, but now bounces back with an error email. Their online webform won’t allow me to attach prior correspondence with a hotel.

  • JonD says:

I wonder what BA is planning, or if this is just to cover running costs.

“LONDON (Reuters) – British Airways boosted its financial firepower by agreeing an extra 1 billion pounds ($1.37 billion) in UK Export Finance, adding to the resources available to its parent company IAG. IAG said on Monday that BA would not necessarily need to use the facility.”

    • BuildBackBetter says:

More of an indication they are confident of travel returning and people using up the vouchers with BA lining up other sources of funding.

    • TGLoyalty says:

UK Export Finance have been handing a few of these out at very good terms.
