We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

If you refer someone who already has had the ba and membership card in the previous 2 years which means they don’t get a bonus. Will I still get the referral bonus? I assume there is also limit on the number of amex cards you can have

  • Sharon says:

My friend had the BAPP and downgraded after getting the sign up bonus, he now wants to upgrade again before hitting £10k spend to get the 2 for 1 voucher. If I refer him from my card (BA Blue) would I get a referral bonus as it would just be a product transfer?

    • Pete1968 says:

It’s not an upgrade, it’s a new card so you get the referral bonus.

      • Sharon says:

        Thank you Pete1968

      • Pete1968 says:

Which means he wouldn’t upgrade to get the 2 for 1 voucher, it would be a new a/c.

If he simply upgrades, you get nothing, you are not referring him.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Not sure what you’re saying here Pete

If you hold a blue BA and apply for a BAPP it was always processed as an upgrade, you couldn’t hold both at the same time. Therefore, no referral bonus is payable as it’s the same card account.

        I wasn’t aware this had changed….

If it’s not the same card then the spend towards £10k wouldn’t carry over and you’d need to spend the full £10k to get a 2-4-1.

        • Pete1968 says:

You can hold blue BA and BAPP at the same time provided you apply for each separately.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Did that change recently then as it was not meant to work that way previously, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen by mistake.

    • Peter K says:

I’m not sure Peter is correct.

I believe that you can’t hold both the blue BA card and the BAPP. The system will see it as an upgrade, not a new application, even if via a referral link.

      • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

1968 is wrong, being accepted for either cancels the other.

        • Pete1968 says:

I’ve had both at the same time with no problems. I guess you could be right if Amex actually realise you hold both cards at the same time.

  • Shaw West says:

Do MBNA cards work with Bendy?

    • Shaw West says:

Looking for another card to partner VA.

    • TGLoyalty says:

What do you mean by work? They haven’t banned it like Creation but if the MCC draws a charge without bendy it’ll draw one with it.

  • Gothbe says:

Regarding the recent Amex spend promotion, how long after reaching the target spend does it take for the avios to be awarded? I had a target of spend £5k on my BA premium to get 10,000 bonus Avios.
