Melia opening the luxury ME Barcelona hotel next month

Yesterday we covered the opening of the new InterContinental Barcelona. I said that it was the only luxury hotel to open in the city so far this year, which is correct.

However, on 25th November, Melia Hotels International is opening the brand new ME Barcelona.

Melia has taken six years to renovate an existing historic building, to create a hotel with 164 rooms and suites. Designers who have been involved include Jaime Hayón, Patricia Urquiola, Oscar Tusquets, Ramón Úbeda, Otto Canalda, Antoni de Moragas and Ronan and Ewan Bouroullec.

The hotel will include a spa and, on the eight floor, a rooftop terrace with a heated swimming pool and views over Plaça Catalunya.

OT – I booked return flights to Rio during the 2 for 1 points offer BA ran last year shortly after lockdown started. Inevitably the original flights got cancelled so I rebooked to mid November 2021, again the flights have been cancelled. I’d ideally like to rebook to November 2022 but the flights aren’t available yet with only early October having opened up. What are my options here? If I take a voucher will I be worse off given the 241? I could book for early next year but I’d rather wait if possible.

If you take a voucher, it contains what you paid – in cash and points – not what you bought (ie two tickets to Rio in CW or F).

Usually, BA will only allow changes up to one year after original ticket issue. For a while, a few months ago, they changed to one year after the booked flight. So if you have a flight for mid-November 2021, you could book one in early November 2022. But if your had been early Nov 21, you couldn’t have booked for mid-Nov 22.

Recent reports are that BA has reverted to the original policy, one year from ticket issue. But four weeks ago I managed to get a LHR-DEN bought in the 50% avios sale changed to April next year – perhaps because it was YouFirst who I spoke to?

Alternative is to go down the legal action route.

Is there a time limit on using the vouchers if they contain a 241?

In Callum’s example, if he takes a voucher today, does he have to use the voucher before 30th October 2022? Or does he have to fly the outbound leg before then?

    Just for absolute clarity would a voucher continue to include the 241 offer or would it simply be the cash and points with no 241 element, I’m assuming the latter in which case I’d be inclined to take the refund

      Your are confusing the BA Amex companion voucher – commonly known as the 241 – with the 50% off avois sale (which was, effectively, a 241!)
      If it is the Avios sale you are referring to, then you get back the cash and avios you paid, and then pay regular fares/avios for any new ticket.
      If the Amex 241, then it will be in any future travel voucher, expiry as Rob stated.

Thanks Rob – I guess we’ll have to take your word for it as the overall promotion eligibility “This offer is for all new Midpoint clients” reads definitely ambiguous to me…
