We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I’ve got 4 tickets to the Wales vs All Blacks game and can no longer go now. Happy to sell for face value (£85) if anyone interested

    Vienna entry question

Have any HFPers had any issues filling out the Austrian Health Entry Pre-Clearance form?

I have already filled in Austrian Airlines’ PLF without issue, but then today I received an email from the Austrian government saying that I had failed the following:

    Missing entry-related health registrations form [ Einreiseformular (Pre-Travel-Clearance) (ptc.gv.at)

Consequently, I go to fill this form in via the provided link and everything is fine until the part where I’m asked to tick the box for EVIDENCE OF LOW EPIDEMIOLOGICAL RISK, whereupon I chose A vaccination certificate for a vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 (full immunization), only then to be told, in BOLD RED, that:

No registration is required under this exception!

I subsequently cannot continue to fill out the form with this error message.

Has anyone encountered this recently? I fly out on Sunday morning to Vienna and I’m slightly non-plussed by this, to be honest.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

    • Alex B says:

I am going to Vienna next weekend, I was on the understanding you only needed to fill in the form of you weren’t vaccinated, hence you’re getting an error message when you say you are.

    • Andrew H says:

If you are vaccinated you don’t need to do this for Austria, just have your NHS certificate to hand (now officially accepted).

You haven’t needed a PLF for a while – I think since at least September (been keeping an eye on Austria as hopefully skiing in December)

      • Andrew H says:

        c) Travellers from all other countries (this includes UK)
        Entering Austria is possible.
All travellers need to show either proof of full vaccination OR proof of past infection OR a negative COVID test.
Travellers who can show proof of full vaccination or past infection do not need to register for pre-travel clearance and do not need to self-isolate.

        • Simon says:

Alex B & Andrew H — many thanks for this!

I was under the same impression, too! Hence my dismay that, having successfully uploaded my PLF to Austrian Airlines, the Austrian government’s “Health Entry” department should then email this morning to say that I had failed to provide a pre-clearance form. Nonetheless, and as mentioned above, when I then went to fill in this form, I’m was told that I didn’t need to fill it in. Seems bizarre.

Both my mother and I are fully vaccinated, have Covid pass letters, and have downloaded .pdfs from the NHS app. I was fairly confident that I’d done everything correctly, but now paranoia has set in a tad.

Whatever the case, I do greatly appreciate your reassurances, Alex / Andrew.

          All the best

    • Phil W says:

There is no requirement to complete a PLF for Austria and no need to upload said document to the Airline. You just travel with proof of double vaccination. That’s what we did a few weeks ago.

I have been given access to my late Uncles Virgin account which I understand has a fair number of point for use. I have his login details, but knowing nothing about Virgin, I want to book two awards which I assume can be done. Before I do, I thought it may be sensible to ask on here for any particular do’s or dont’s. Thank you.

    • Melonfarmer says:

Find a way of gifting them/transferring to yourself as some loyalty schemes void points in these circumstances

    • Anna says:

I’m not sure I’d want to risk having my tickets cancelled or denied boarding in the event Virgin suspected their Ts and Cs were being breached. How are you going to go about paying taxes etc, is it like BA where you can literally use anyone’s card or does Virgin do verification? It might be safer to use an official route like your late uncle’s solicitor to get any points transferred to you or another family member, as can be done with BAEC accounts.

  • Paul says:

Does anyone know with certainty when the 14 day period starts for entry into the states? Is it 14 whole days USA time? Is it simply 336 hours? I can’t see it documented anywhere. I left UK 1230 on Tues 19 Oct and would like to enter Tues 5pm est.

    • Aston100 says:

Are you Paul the Destroyer, or Plague Island Paul?

      • roberto says:

You have to enter on day 15 currently. I am booked to the US from Barbados in January so its now a mute point for Europeans since the 8h of Nov rule change but I checked with the USDHS. I would be landing on day zero , dont get bogged down by hours its just days..

        • roberto says:

So from your dates the 20th oct is day one (assuming you landed outside Europe or where ever before midnight) and day 15 is 1st of Nov. The 2nd is fine and dandy.

  • Benilyn says:

How do you record calls on iPhone?

    • Andrew H says:

You google “how do I record calls on an iphone”

      • Rhys says:

        It’s actually annoyingly difficult…

      • Tracey says:

Settings> control centre> Scroll down to ‘Voice memos’ and click the + sign.
To use it, from Home Screen swipe up and choose the voice memo button, swipe down, you get a countdown of 3 seconds which you can use to dial the number. When you’ve finished you call click on the bar at the top of your screen to end the recording.

        • Anna says:

That sounds rather more reliable then the method I was toying with, which was to have another phone recording a call I would be making on speaker on my own phone!

        • Benilyn says:

          Thanks!

    • SteveJ says:

  • Aston100 says:

About to make a Hilton cash booking.
Can’t see any incentives or offers anywhere (Don’t want to use Amex Travel or any OTAs as I value the status benefits more than the money saved).
Am I missing anywhere? or else is there a HfP link that I’ve overlooked?
