We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Alex B says:

Is Heathrow rewards still active? They won’t send me an email to reset my password or an email with new card details to log in if I try and set up a new account (nothing in Junk).

    • Alex says:

I have the exact same problem. Emailed customer service twice and they eventually replied over a month later saying no issues with my account and to try again! Still can’t login…

    • Damian says:

Contact them through DM on Twitter they usually respond within about 30 mins or less

      • Alex B says:

        Thanks all sorted through Twitter

      • Stephen says:

I tried the DM Twitter route without success at first, but then was successful when posting directly as a tweet calling out for assistance.

  • Claire says:

Hi, has anyone been credited back their 10% on the latest Morrisons offer? Ive had no email notification telling me that I have successfully used the offer. Thx

    • Doogie says:

No emails is fairly common. My spend on 23rd hasn’t shown the refund yet (or showing as hitting the piddly amount of bonus points for spending £1 by 26th)

    • Andrew H says:

      Have a weird one in VA-SA (8 points/£1) – spent £203 expecting 1624…two credits so far of 200ish each…

      • BuildBackBetter says:

I received 8mpp on my transactions. Well, it’s tracking now 4 days after the transactions.

    • Gavin says:

The previous offer last month gave me no notification and the credits took a couple of weeks to arrive

  • Chris says:

Avios to Nectar transfers – have people found that it takes at least 10 days recently? Been a week and still no sign, I want to clear my eBay basket!

    • Andrew says:

It’s been 14 days on the dot for me for the last 3 months – I think it’s a lag time rather than a processing delay, to reduce fraud. Others have reported a couple of days shy of 14 days, but expect it to be around that.

      • Chris says:

Cheers Andrew. Looks like the new tools and monitor will have to wait a little!

    • The Urbanite says:

      Still 10 days for me.

  • Shaw West says:

What would be classified as cash recycling as per Curve?

    • Crafty says:

Their stated definition, which they now routinely ignore, is taking cash out from an ATM and paying it into your bank account.

      • Rui N. says:

No, they’ve updated their T&Cs now. But indeed before that was the only thing they classified as cash recycling.
        Now it says:
“In addition to the fees listed above, any behaviour which Curve deems to be “cash recycling” is not permitted. This is where high volumes of cash (e.g. defined by a high cash to spend ratio) are taken out of an ATM using a credit card or other payment card and then used to repay the card in order to gain rewards on the funding card or Curve Rewards. Depending on the account activity, “high volumes of cash withdrawals” could include spending which is under £200/ month as it will be assessed on the volume and frequency of ATM withdrawals compared to non-ATM spend. Any other equivalent usage which the Curve Compliance Team believes aims to achieve the same outcome is also not allowed, including but not limited to:
-the use of money transfer services,
        -topping up savings accounts,
-transferring cash between payment accounts using Curve,
-moving money from a credit card into an investment account using Curve and then moving it through another payment account back onto a credit card account to start the whole round trip again to gain points or another financial advantage
Such behaviour may result in your Curve account being blocked or cancelled. “

      • Lady London says:

…..and to make those changed terms effective, remember they have to have either been the terms displayed to you/downliadable by you/provided to you at the time you took the card, or they have to have had any changes notified to you with the correct notice period (often 60 days) *before* they become effective.

A company usually cant change ts and cs / wording without the above happening.

Yesterday I booked CW in a four class 777 for BGI in December when looking to see seats available this shows — Seat choices are only available at check-in. any Ideas why this shows. Also are the window ying yang seats best for a couple on a day flight.

    Thanks

    • FatherOfFour says:

Once you have been ticketed in a few days, you should be able to see the seat map.

    • Sarah says:

I’d say, the window ying yang seats are probably best, unless you particularly want to sit side by side, in which case go for the centre pair, although you will both then have a stranger staring back at you either side whilst the dividers are down and you’ll both have to climb over someone to get out, rather than just one of you. You could try looking at the seat map using the Seat Alerts by Expert Flyer app (you can download the app and do basic searches for free) and it will show you whether all seats have been allocated or blocked out. Not sure if it makes a difference but do you have any status that allows you to select seats for free or were you looking to pay?

      • xcalx says:

Thanks to both of you. Inow have the seat map and it looks nothing like seatgurus. I wll ask a question later so it’s not lost here

  • Pete1968 says:

Applied for passport renewal this Monday 25th and sent it by 1st class post. Yesterday got both the passport received and passport approved messages. Out for delivery today so 5 days start to finish.

    • John says:

      You’re very brave.

      • Pete1968 says:

Came in the morning, I was expecting the blue but not the extra ‘big’ photo page at the front, not sure what purpose that serves except to help short-sighted border/ passport control staff.

        So – 3 photos: 1 big, 1 normal size b&w, 1 normal size colour.

  • Princess says:

Reporting a great experience with You First contact centre. Sorry if I missed a new change in BA policy and this is now normal.

I had flight booked during 50% sale with companion voucher for April 2021. (First class LHR – PEK and club HKG – LHR)
They were cancelled and managed to move them only to october 2021 (1 year validity)
Outbound flight cancelled again, return was still showing as departing in 2 days, so I build up strength and decide to call. I was not hoping to manage to change them, but I wanted to make sure to not loose the return.

You First answered in 6-8 min. and after the usual checking I explained I was considering moving the flight to April 2022. She checked dates and then put me on hold. At that point I thought she would have come back apologising saying she couldn’t do it, instead she came back confirming everything was done, then she did the same for my husband account.

Everything only took 36 minutes including the waiting time. I know is a small thing, and maybe we will not able to go anyway because China will still be close, but this time I was impressed.

My outbound wasn’t available in first class, so I followed a suggestion I read recently in this chat about asking to note that was an involuntary downgrade.

    • ChrisC says:

Policy appears to be 12 months from original ticketing date or 12 months from a reticketing date.

So if your first rebooking was reticketted (check the ticket number in your emails to see if they have change ) after the cancellation then the clock starts from that new date and if your new flights are within 12 months of that date then should be no issue in rebooking.

      • ChrisC says:

This is how I think it looks from BAs perspective (not getting into EU261 discussion)

For ease let’s say your original booking was made on 1st November 2020 then the validity would end on 31st October 2021.

Your original flight was cancelled and you rebooked to fly in October 2021 – so within the 1 year validity of your original ticket.

Let’s say you did that rebooking on 1st July 2021. That means your new ticket validity would run to 30th June 2022.

So now your October flights have been cancelled you can rebook for anytime until 30th June 2022 as that is within your new validity period.

And since you rebooked and were presumably reticketed today your new validity period would run until 28th October 2023.

        • Princess says:

It could be,is there a way to know if you have been re-ticked or if they just update dates on previous ticket?

          • Princess says:

sorry, just read again, ticket number in the email. I found the previous one, but maybe I need to wait for another email for the one I changed today to check

        • Mouse says:

This is also how BA explained it to me when trying to fob me off – book now for the end of the validity period and if that flight is cancelled then you’ll have 12 months from the rebooking date

  • swifty says:

Morning all, (esp Anna my dear). So I have 2 lounge passes which’ll end soon, and i want to cancel gold soon: I also have a 241 and some cash tied up, prob £100 in my ftv, and a son who only has 4 days of annual leave before year end. I also have another 3 241’s in acc so not fussed about burning this one cheaply, so my Q is , any Interesting places to go for a short 5 day break, been most of Med and honestly I’m saving the cash for a couple of biggy trips/Sing/Thai/Mexico next yr when things calm down. He would hate dubai, and I am not that keen on their human rights issues either.

    • ATP says:

Would strongly recommend Istanbul if you haven’t been. Its far enough that it has a different culture than Med but close enough for 5 days, has some lovely hotels and is a fixed avios price. In my exp availability is generally good. Others will know better, but BA may still be running CS/CW on the route? (Perhaps this last bit is out of date not sure). IST generally has mild temps so exploring won’t be too onerous this time of year if that’s what you’d like. Not sure on current entry policy re Covid so worth checking that too.

      • Swifty says:

        thanks!

      • Greg says:

Just got back from Istanbul. BA have a B777 on most days now (cf A320). My wife went out a week before me and got seat 1F (First 2 rows are FIRST).

I got a Club Suite further back. So much more enjoyable than an A320 with the curtain moved as far forward as possible.

4.5 hours is a good time to enjoy a Club Suite

    • AFKAE says:

Jordan would also be good, 5 days is a bit tight, but you can still visit the main attractions.

    • Anna says:

Good morning! Someone posted a number they’d used successfully to get through to BA late yesterday – if you’re calling to redeem a FTV you might need all the help you can get atm!
I’d personally love 5 days in Cairo with the Pyramids and new museum but I have no idea if BA is currently flying there or even if we’re currently allowed in, but I would also love to see Jordan and Istanbul.
Otherwise Malta is an intriguing mix of cultures and packs in an awful lot for a small island. If you don’t mind going further afield though, some US cities are now available on RFS in economy.

    • Sandra B says:

A bit late to the party today but family just left to head down south. I would also go for Istanbul. So many interesting things to see and 5 days would just be a starter. Even the fake tour guide chancer got us into the Blue Mosque avoiding the queues but get a real one for the Hagia Sophia. Would go back in a heartbeat and surely will. Watch the seasons though. Late May was perfect weather.
