We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know how long Amex Travel take to refund back to an Amex

I am looking to use a 2-4-1 voucher which is due to expire at the end of May 2022. However, I would like to travel after this period.

I am wondering if I can make any avios booking (say EDI-LHR) and turn it into FTV. I can then use this FTV combined with my other FTV to book long-haul flight at my preference with departure date well after May 2022. Is this possible?

    • BJ says:

      Ask @Andrew H 😀

    • SteveJ says:

You were all good until you mentioned combining with another FTV. I could be wrong but I’m not convinced you can combine FTVs

      • ChrisC says:

Depends on the FTV amd what they contain.

No harm in asking when PY comes to use them.

      • PY says:

        Thank you. Thinking of combining:

FTV 1: avios booking from last 50% sale
FTV 2: avios booking including 2-4-1 voucher.

Not sure if that’d be possible?

        • BJ says:

Might be wrong but I think I recall a couple of comments stating that readers used elements of FTV with unused events being returned to accounts. No harm in asking, if first agent refuses then probably worth trying one or two more. If we have learned anything, it’s that the odd agent will, for whatever reason, will do us a favour. Good luck.

    Just has a scam test from +44 7305 608912

Says ‘you have failed to register for your covid passport’

then an official looking address that ends with . com

On one of those scam reporting sites people report that looks to an official looking form but that asks for your bank details.

Does virgin provide Wifi on 789 fleet? IF do, any idea o the price bands. Planning to travel long haul on weekday and wondering if I could have enough bandwidth to login to office network inflight

    • Andrew says:

Taking WFH to a whole new level – like your thinking!

    • AL says:

I flew a 789 on Monday which had it – it’s been some time since I flew VS that didn’t have WiFi. Pricing on Monday was £4.99 for 40mb and £14.99 for 150mb. They don’t offer their unlimited plan on the 789 fleet, annoyingly.

If you’re using a VPN, be aware that there will be a small, but not inconsiderate given the 150mb cap per session, overhead that you lose to the VPN.

Unlimited WiFi exists on much of the rest of the fleet for the sub-£20 mark.

    • CH says:

Not sure about VS, but my office VPN is not able to connect over the on-board WiFi connection on TK.

  • RC says:

Can someone confirm that I can get a FTV for BA Holiday booking with just the initial deposit paid? And I just need to request the voucher via the standard BA voucher claim form?

Looking for some advice on a hotel in Honolulu that will do an early morning transfer service.
Will only be in Honolulu for 2 nights and have flight out at 7:25am. Would anyone have ideas on the best place to stay?
Looking to avoid renting a car as we won’t be there long, will be flying in from Maui in the afternoon of the first day of the stay, so will only really have one full day in Honolulu

    • JDB says:

The Halekulani is well located, very comfortable and will do a transfer at any time. It’s expensive but good value for the location, quality of rooms and public areas, although the pool and surrounding area is a bit small for the size of hotel, although you also have a bit of beach.

  • James says:

Can a 2-4-1 be upgraded for cash at a later date if Avios availability is there?

    • Njb says:

Good question- I have had an email from BA re a 241 avios CW booking offering an upgrade to First. Click on link though and no option to upgrade.
